I refuse to even wonder about the playoffs til we can learn how to play D and win big games. Just setting ourselves up for heart break.

Obviously I hope we get there, but man...

Our defense is so freakin bad anything (bad) can happen. Like I say, one game at a time. I am very very very very scared of Jimmy Graham this week.

Very.

Very....

You should be...if you think Antonio Gates went off for 10+ receptions...wait until you see the Saint's leading receiver right now. Call it Jason Witten x5! Shutting him down will go a huge way toward beating them. Colston and Sproles are hobbled. Lee and Carter better put on their hard hats next Sunday night. Kenny Stills is another worry.

Agreed. And a couple of little things that could make a big difference. Things like getting a bye late in the year, rather than early in the season. Playing the Giants in NY after having a full two weeks to prepare and get healthy. And of course, finishing the season at home. And of course, we have the best QB in the division.

^--Yep.

Giants road back just got a lot easier with Aaron Rodgers out 3 weeks. So when they beat Oakland and Green Bay and we lose next week, they will have a chance to catch us already on the 24th in NY. If they are one game behind us, caughlin is not losing to Garrett.

A very realistic scenario in the making:

Dallas lose to NO and NYG putting us at 5-6.

Philly beat GB and lose to Was putting them at 5-6.

Was beat Minny and Philly and lose to SF putting them at 5-6.

NYG beat Oak GB and Dal putting them at 5-6.

Then it starts getting real...

Too many games left to talk playoffs. Too many teams are still alive for a spot

Because we are fans!! Nothing we say is relevant to an outcome on any future games. It's not like we're personnel and are actually planning a playoff game at AT&T Stadium. We're no different from the average fan who discuss these things outside of this forum on a daily basis.

If we win all if our 3 remaining division games and take the Oakland one, we will be at 9 wins which means our divisional rivals would have to be at 10 wins to take the division.

What's it going to be then, eh?

No possible way to lose this division, even if we TRY to choke it away

You do realize you are talking about the Dallas Cowboys of the past few years, right? Expect the incredible and never assume anything is safe, unless you want to be severely disappointed.

Yeah. Graham is a monster.

The only game this year where he was shut down was against the Patriots and that was the game where he seemed to hurt his foot I believe. The Patriots put Talib on him one on one and let him follow him around the field all game. It seemed to work, but I'm not sure what other factors played into that.

Sproiles being out helps us alot. Him coming out of the backfield would be a nightmare. They have relied on Pierre Thomas for that role, but he is not as fast or shifty as Sproiles and is not as much of a threat but still is dangerous.

IMO, I think we need to be aggressive with Graham. Hit him off the line, jam him, alter his route and make him fight to get downfield. In the games I have watched the Saint's offense, he seems to get off the line free and runs downfield at full blast and gets behind defenses. If we can make him uncomfortable, hit him and delay his route at all, that will give us time to try and hit Brees.

With that being said, I think we should blitz more this game. Colston has been banged up as well and they don't have the talent that they once had on the outside as in years past. Their offensive line is also a mess. They give up alot of pressures and don't get much push up front.

I am with you and as much as I hate it, rooting for SF to win that division. If we have to go on the road, SF is better than Seattle. I figure we will be the 4th seed and play the 5th seed in the first round, which I suspect will be from the NFCW, either San Fran or Seattle, would much rather play Seattle at Home and San Fran on the road the next week if I could pick'em.

I look for it to fall out this way:
1. SF
2. NO
3. GB
4 DAL
5. Seattle
6. Lions

I agree with you. My hope is Seattle at Dallas and then if we get lucky enough to win, SF on the road. I think SF is going to win their division. They are a better road team and appear to be picking up momentum. Seattle is starting to shows signs of cracking and they are not good on the road. Plus Seattle still has to go into SF to play and I bet SF wins that game.

It's still so early to tell what will happen but as long as we win the division, I think there is a good chance we will get Seattle.

Yeah, we need to put our best CB on Graham AND give him help. He is by far their best receiving target and Brees can't get enough of him. If they are going to beat us, let them do it by throwing to weaker targets.

I tend to think we need to win @NY and then root for NY to beat Philly and Wash 2x, that could really help us out. At 2-6 and add another loss to us, and it'd be really hard to see NY ever getting back into the picture but they could help us out a lot by beating philly and wash.

Yep.

I also don't think we should just send our four down linemen at Brees on first and second down. I'm not saying we should blitz every play but we should definitely mix it up and put as much pressure on that weak offensive line and Brees as we can along with being physical with Graham.

I don't get the impression that the Saints are all that physical. I'm not saying that we are, but we need to get out there with a high motor and punch them in the mouth.

They also have had a rough time stopping the run and their fans are frustrated with that. Despite our ineptness in the running game, I think we should run the ball atleast 20 times Sunday night and pop off a deep throw running towards the endzone here and there. Not these in routes and sideline routes. We need to be physical and aggressive and pick our spots. Their defense can be beat. I guess that's where we need a great game plan. Hopefully Garrett earns his paycheck this week.

listen everyone....I respect the Giants...I really do. But if we come off a bye. Healthy and rested. And lose to them. We will get whatever we deserve in the end. I said it after we played them and it has been proven true. I cannot believe the Giants broke camp with this roster. This is NOT a good football team. And knowing that organization like I do...I am stunned their personell is so bad. They started 0-6 for a reason. We are not world beaters....so of course we cannot overlook anybody. But 8 or 9 wins will win this division...and in spite of our injuries....there are enough teams left on our schedule that should allow us to get to 8 or 9 wins. And with all the tie breaking scenarios we own...we are in the drivers seat.

I agree. We really need to run it down their throats.. that also keeps Brees and Co off the field. The problem is we have really sucked with the run lately. Completely gave up the running game against the lowly Vikes this past Sunday. I'm not sure mentally where our run game is currently. I say unleash Murray out there!

Yeah, we need to run the ball.

I think it was Rowan Kavner I heard talking about the running game on Talkin' Cowboys yesterday. He said that when the Cowboys line up and just hand the ball off and run straight-line between the tackles, they don't do that bad.

These delays and stretch runs that we tend use more do not work and usually put us in awful positions. I remember in the good ole days when Emmitt Smith would line up with Moose in front of him and get the hand off running full blast into the hole.

That's what we need to do, IMO. Stop with the fancy stuff and just line up and run the ball between the tackles.

Been looking over the tiebreaks and records in the East, and we really would have to blow it to lose this division. We are talking about going like 3-4 down the stretch to lose this thing. If we have a losing record over the remaining 7 games, we dont deserve to go to the playoffs.

And no playoffs mean no Opie..............................I dont care how good a mid-season grade Jerry gave Garrett.

9-7 gets us the divison imo. win 2 of 3 of the divison games left, then beat the raiders and hope we can beat one of packers, saints or bears.
