A realistic look at our playoff hopes

they have the talent
it is possible; as much as Siri is a POS he is a good coach and this team won a SB; so they know they can do it.
 
There is no need to worry about what Carolina and Tampa do, two teams from the South aren’t getting in. I see the biggest wildcard hurdle being Chicago and Green Bay. They still play each other twice. If they split, then the WC becomes almost impossible, one of them needs to sweep, preferably GB. We don’t want them fighting with Dallas for a wildcard, they need to win the division.

the tie benefits us in this way
we win 11 we will only have 5 losses
outside of the pack any other 11 win team will have 6 losses

Yes, it's unfortunate, THET have two seasons; BB and AB ,

Before the bye, they did some stupid things and lost some games, they shouldn't have, after the bye, they're on a little bit of a roll.

They can't change anything, they have to keep winning and have hope, but I have zero expectations, when this thing starts out with realistic look at the playoff hopes, I say we have no playoff hopes, and if that changes, that's great, but I am not setting myself up for disappointment.

They were discussing this in a few places this morning, IN any other year, the Cowboys easily could make the playoffs, easily take that last wild card spot, most of the time you could have had those with a 9 win season, 10 is guaranteed.

The NFC is so log jammed right now, that some teams that are probably the hottest in the league, it might be the Cowboys at the time, we'll see, but that are winning a lot of games, are going to be out.

That is the opposite of why they expanded the playoffs the AFC much easier path...


But yes,

unfortunately for the Cowboys they shot themselves in the foot early, and now we're playing catch up, and might never even get there, but I like their hopes starting the season off next year ,as I believe this will carry over,

I believe a lot of these moves made to improve this team will help us game one next year... So the very least we get out of this little upswing and good football being played is we're getting a preview a snapshot if you will of next year...

Everyone's different but I've seen that same injury to plenty of quarterbacks long as it's on their nom throwing hand most of them have just wore a glove with little protective plate in it doesn't mean it's metal it's probably a thin piece of plastic but it typically doesn't affect them that much it's just pain management can they take the snap can they fake the runs and what not you know a lot of the eye candy stuff they have to do with one hand sometimes it is their offhand but the throwing part it's not affected at all..

I think he will play because they have playoff implications involved in this as well, I mean like I said I could be wrong, but I've seen many instances where the quarterbacks played with this exact injury....

I would really suck for Cowboys fans to once again have the Eagles get lucky and play a team without their starting quarterback it happens so much I remember the Super Bowl year a couple years back where they didn't win the Super Bowl but they got to the Super Bowl against a weak **** schedule when you looked at who they faced when they faced him who was playing same thing in the playoffs it's like they just walked in with hardly any resistance...


Seems to me every time the Cowboys play the guys, have been missing, all look to come back that game lol

Yes but it still has to play out just right…for example GB plays Chicago twice, if they split it screws us. We need one of them to lose both. Similarly Hawks, Rams, and SF play each other, we need someone to lose two and preferably drop 3 of their final games. We need quite a bit of help unfortunately plus we have to go on an absolute tear of a winning streak the likes of which we have almost never seen.

Correct, but the obvious downside is that if we only have 10 wins we are behind everyone with 11

There is no team remaining that scares me, however, to your point, it only takes one game where the offense is not in sync and doesn't score a lot of points; or the defense can't stop the other team. Even in a tight game, where a bad or missed call from the officials, or a key turnover, or the ball not bouncing our way, can be the difference. To use a baseball analogy, you can have a Cy Young pitcher who wins 7 out of his last 8 games with a 2.00 ERA, but in the one game he doesn't have command of his pitches, he allows 7 runs over the first 3 innings. It's going to happen. Look at the Rams this past weekend - had they not coughed the ball up three times against Carolina, they likely win that game.

At 6-5-1, the Cowboys are currently 2.5 games behind the three teams ahead of them in the wild card hunt. Not impossible but we are going to need at least one of those WC teams ahead of us to seriously fade.

All the Cowboys can do is win their remaining games and hope for some help. The margins with 5 games left are razor thin. This Thursday’s game vs the lions is obviously huge because Det at 7-5 is also fighting for a playoff spot.

As we head down the stretch for the last 5 games, what a fun ride lays ahead. The NFL is the most unpredictable league in pro sports so don’t look at any team’s schedule and predict wins and losses. Anything can happen.

It would certainly be a bummer to finish with 11 wins and not get in, which probably has never happened in the modern nfl. The Bears have a brutal schedule playing 4 of their next 5 games against teams in or very close to playoff contention. Same for the Packers, Lions, and Seahawks. The Rams have the easiest go with 2 out of 5, the 49ers have 2 out of 4, and the Panthers have 3 out of 4. The Eagles have 2 out of 5 + 2 division games.

It's certainly plausible several of these teams could go 2-3, 3-2, or .500 down the stretch. All we can do is keep winning, enjoy the ride, and hope some tie breaker scenarios work in our favor at the end.
 
1971 the Cowboys were 4-3
They won out, and went on to win the SB.

Yes much different time and team. But it happened.

The frustrating thing, Bob, is that the two teams (Tampa Bay and Carolina) that we could finish with a better record is irrelevant, because one of those teams will still get in as a division winner. What's remarkable - and not in a good way - is that the current 5th, 6th, and 7th seeds have records that are similar to those of the current division leaders. I still believe that our best path to the playoffs is that the Eagles have a meltdown, similar to 2023, because I just can't see two of the teams from the NFC West or NFC North divisions losing 3 of their last 5 games (or the 49ers losing 2 of their final 4 games).
 
if the cowboys win out, they get in.

If not, the best chance is to either win the division or hope one of the north teams fade (either chicago or green bay)

I think 1 loss is our only cushion.
 
We have to win out. If we do we control our destiny.

The 2008 patriots went 11-5 and didn’t make the playoffs. So it has happened in the last 17 years. Rare, but it has happened.
