Such a shame to see such a well written detailed and likely game changing strategy that will never happen

You're working too hard. The Jones are going to be on vacation while your finding ways to make the team better. These dudes aren't able to get out the way and let the FO cook...Big Tuna already told em.

Yeah it won’t happen…but things may change sooner than any of us think. I’ve never seen the fans and local media put this much heat and accountability on Jerry…ever. He’s squirming like a crab out of his shell.

Things won’t change….until all of a sudden they do. This 82 year old fool needs to feel as much discomfort as possible from all corners.

Bob, you should realize that you just put more thought and time posting this thread than Jerry spent working on the Cowboys the entire 2024 offseason. :flagwave:

Anyone watching the Dallas Cowboys since last year has known - this team needs a complete overhaul. And for everyone who says, “We won 12 games last year” didn’t notice that while this team dominated bad teams, the better teams at times bullied the Cowboys. The packers delivered the final message in the most humiliating playoff loss in this team’s once great history.

So even though I know this owner has proven he cares more about himself than winning, if he somehow did the impossible and admitted he needs to change, we could do a rebuild that could turn thing around. Jerry won’t ever come to his senses and admit he’s done, so this thread is simply what I believe should happen, but won’t.

With that in mind, here is the outline of the rebuild:
NEEDS AND ASSUMPTIONS
  • This team will need a new head coach and entire staff. The new HC needs to be younger with a combo of discipline, innovation on both sides of the ball and inspiration. Someone like Dan Campbell or DeMeco Ryan. (I know they are not available but that’s the prototype) He needs full control of the locker room and hiring of his staff. In short, we need young and innovative, not a washed up “name”.
  • We need new coordinators that have a more modern schemes on both sides of the ball.
  • This team needs a talent infusion at multiple positions, but we need to decide first what kind of team are we trying to be.
  • This team needs an entire “culture” overhaul.
  • We are stuck with Dak Prescott for maybe 2-3 years, but not 4, because of a possible out in his contract.
  • Key pre-draft idea: DRAFT A QB IN ROUND ONE IF WE HAVE TOP 5 POSITION. He could be developed not rushed.
  • We will have much more cap space than most realize in 2025.
  • We need to part with lots of veterans who have been here a long time.
BEFORE FREE AGENCY AND THE DRAFT
  • There are a several veteran players with fairly large contracts that expire after this year, and many will walk, some may retire. How well they use that cap space is the question.
  • I would let these vets walk because their contracts have expired: DeMarcus Lawrence, Zack Martin (probably retires), Trey Lance, Brandin Cooks, Cooper Rush, Jourdan Lewis, Eric Kendricks, Chauncey Goldston, Rico Dowdle, Linval Joseph, CJ Goodwin, and maybe some I’m unaware whose contracts are up.
  • June 1 cuts: Donovan Wilson (his contract has an “out” after this year with only a $3 mil cap hit), Mazi Smith, Deuce Vaughn, maybe Luke Schoonmaker. Perhaps others.
  • Possible trades: Trevon Diggs (If you can get something like a 3rd or 4th rounder), Terance Steele (if you can get a 5th-7th rounder)
  • IMPORTANT: Sign the guys you want to build around early! See below
  • Sign Parsons, Tyler Smith (early), Jake Ferguson (early) and Brandon Aubrey (early). The earlier the better. None of those guys will get cheaper. No waiting for some stupid publicity stunt.
FREE AGENCY/TRADES
  • Use some of the cap space saved for some mid-level FAs - not necessarily the most expensive but NOT dumpster dive minimum like we’re used to.
  • Focus on DL, OL, RB, LB. Especially focus on the trenches.
  • Be wide open for trades for anyone.
DRAFT
  • As crazy as it may seem to some, consider drafting a QB early….IF we have a top 5 pick, draft a QB. If not, maybe not. Use the model Atlanta is using. They have Cousins for a couple of years and they drafted Michael Pennix to be developed. We could do something similar. (There is a possible out in 2026 or 27 with Dak. It would eat some cap but it would speed up the rebuild)
  • Draft help at DL, RB, OL…honestly we need help everywhere.
  • Draft with a philosophy in mind. Like Jimmy or Parcells used to do. Don’t just do a fantasy football draft like Jerry does.
The Jones boys somehow think all they need are a few stars they will pay, and those guys should carry everyone else. Good GMs know all 53 roster spots are just as critical as the “stars” you pay. I have felt for years all JJ pays attention to is who he’s paying. Not what additional talent he needs.

As I said at the beginning, I know most or none of this will ever happen, but I’m hoping at this point for an unexpected miracle. This feels like1989 or 2002 all over again.
Trade Parsons.
The way we use him as an undersized DE, he gets hurt and worn down by the playoffs and could have a shorter career as well and a big dollar contract will not wear well with him.
Also he is a luxury a rebuilding team can't afford.

So what you want should happen and if it doesn't that is an indictment on the other?

What kind of reasoning is that?

Fuzz I don’t understand your reasoning here. This thread is an opinion on how to rebuild this team. I said it won't happen because of the owner. Seems pretty straightforward.

I wish I could hear more of it. I don’t think it’s national at all. Is it mostly the 105.3 local radio?

If you’re going to listen to a Dallas sports station, listen to The Ticket, 96.7. They give the Jones’ both barrels most days.

You're working too hard. The Jones are going to be on vacation while your finding ways to make the team better. These dudes aren't able to get out the way and let the FO cook...Big Tuna already told em.
What would be the reasoning for the above?

I am fine, to an extent, with someone wanting/trying to win their way. But there seems to be something far more serious going than an Owner with Main Character Syndrome here.

Im starting to think there is something underneath all this that is disturbingly mental.

I get Jerry wants all the credit, I get that he wants to be in front of cameras, I get that he may be a control freak, I get that he may be after money more than winning...

But there seems to be something else going on here that is effecting this Organization, because a lot does not make sense.

There are rumors coming out that Jerry doesnt value coaches/coaching and that the Cowboys run with a smaller staff than other teams...various rumors about Jerry being cheap...

Im curious if Jerry is stubborn in a deranged sort of way. Examples that could be entertained:

1) He thinks he and his kids can run a team at a far cheaper cost than other teams. He thinks he and his kids will figure it out without having to pay talented FO people high dollar wages. He will not budge on this one bit, its the reason he bought the team and he is sticking to the original plan....to prove he can do better and cheaper than everyone else.

2) He thinks he can win with stars only. Absolutely will not budge on this. He thinks roster building and spending money on high wage FO football people to build a roster is stupid....and he is out to prove he can do it and everyone else is stupid. Again....he will not budge because he is out to prove his peers wrong and that he is the smartest guy out of all the Owners.

There are more, but the point is that there seems to be something else mental going on here that can only really be explained by stubbornness. Why would someone be so stubborn on something like this? To win some debate with his peers or prove to himself he was right.

I dont fully buy into all the complaints about distractions at the Star or care about Jerry trying to make money off the team....I think something else is going on here that is psychologically worrisome.

I have said it before, if Jerry really cared about money, he would sell the team. If there was an Arlington Cardboard Company that had the exact same financials as the Dallas Cowboys, it would be worth $1 to $2 billion. The Cowboys could easily sell at auction for $10 billion. A Cowboys owner who only cared about profit would have sold his grossly overvalued business long ago and diversified the money into half a dozen other investments. And he certainly wouldn't have taken up GM'ing as a full-time hobby.

It's not about the money for Jerry, not really. He definitely enjoys the business side of things, but he loves attention more, and he really loves proving other people wrong. Frankly, he's a narcissist, and he uses the celebrity that comes with owning the Dallas Cowboys to enable his worst traits.

It's simple. You want something to happen. If you do not get what you want then it is blamed on others.

The presumption here is that your plan would work or if it is possible. If you are wrong about either then what?

I just do not get the blame part on multiple levels.

You do make a good point about the money...most strictly money people probably would have sold already.

He wants to prove something. He has no fiduciary duty to Cowboys fans, City of Dallas, ex-Cowboys players or the sport.

The guy believes in himself. I respect it...to a point.

I think the guy loves football, wants to be known as a football guy...but will not budge on conforming to others best business practices in regards to football. He wants to prove he can do it his way and wont ever budge it seems.

I almost feel like Jerry is using 'wealthiest franchise in sports' as a way to claim victory in the football arena. What better way to claim victory in a sports setting if you cant win championships than claiming you are making a killing money wise 'hanging at the rim' and everyone else is 'swimming upstream'. Just twist it into being about money...and Jerry wins lol.

I think he is a Dallas legend and the city will miss him when he is gone, though.

Jerry won’t ever come to his senses and admit he’s done, so this thread is simply what I believe should happen, but won’t.

With that in mind, here is the outline of the rebuild:

Sadly, as long as Jerry Jones sits in that owner's box, words like OVERHAUL, CHANGE, ACCOUNTABILITY, DISCIPLINE, and RESPECT OF THE GAME will never be associated with this organization.

Jerry Jones is a different animal, he feeds off the attention and welcomes all criticisms, as long as it keeps the Cowboys in the news.
