Sanders seems to have something...doesnt turn the ball over much.

But I would not trust him in a locker room that isnt strong. And...would be really worried about him on the Cowboys with all the cameras and media.

Just like Jerry seems to have main character syndrome and cant control himself from intervening in things, I think the Sanders Family doesnt take criticism too well, as in...they seem like the 'gotta have last word' type.

Shaduer(sp) already couldnt keep quiet when an ex-player criticized what was going down in Boulder with Deion and the Buffalos. Shadeur has thrown his o-line under the bus in the media. Deion has already said his son isnt being drafted by a team that would put his son in a bad situation. So...the Sanders family doesnt like criticism...and I dont think they care about being team players if they think they are pulling their weight.

And I like Deion and what he has done with his kids. I just think there is some personality risk there.
I agree that he has some Micah in him…still might not be scared witless like Dak in pressure moments.

We need to stop as fans tip toeing around the issues with the team. I am going to give Rison Star credit because he has been saying it for years, the Cowboys won’t win anything with Jerry running the franchise. Jimmy had the Cowboys on the level of the 2000s Patriots. We might have won 5+ Superbowls in the 90s if it wasn’t for Jerry’s ego. Romo/Dak, Dez/CeeDee, Parsons/Ware it does not matter with this ownership. Bob has a great plan to improve the team but even he says it’s a pipe dream because of the owner. I hate the Eagles but they have exposed Jerry even more. The Cowboys and Eagles were even teams last season. I think we might have been better by a smidge. What did they do in the offseason. Targeted every weakness they had through free agency and the draft. The Eagles had a plan to win the Super Bowl. Our ownership faked being angry said a few catch phrases and counts his billions. This offseason is going to be a mess. I hope we win some games so we don’t get a top 5 pick.

Jerry wants to do it his way and he's practically almost dead so what does he really care what anyone thinks at this point? He's not making smart long term decisions evidenced by the Dak contract. I have ZERO faith he will do anything that really needs to be done to build a lasting winner in Dallas because anything that's done has to start with a change in culture. Culture is the common denominator over the last 30 years of losing.

The Eagles also fires coaches and pays top dollar for assistants. Jerry would never do that. We have no chance against real organizations.

Jerry meddles too much in the coaching hires, in that instead of letting his hand picked HC sign his guys, it comes with strings.
Wade had to deal with Garrett.
McCarthy, for better or worse, had Moore already at OC.

Just thinking of this team hiring innovative young coordinators just feels Madden-ish at this point in time, sadly.

If the Bill signing doesn't happen, I think for sure we'll definitely have one re-tread or if not two at the coordinator spot.

it's a moot point now.

If they didn't sign dak and let him prove value, they could have signed a super bowl winner or walk away and rebuild.

But they signed him, gave him zero running game and here we are.

The time to rebuild was this year. now it's years away and Jones it going to keep patching ****

They won't draft a qb nor a DT top 5. They just don't value those positions.

The importance of a Franchise Qb needs no explanation but more than a few SB teams have been anchored by a generational DT.

Chris Jones, Aaron Donald, etc etc....you get one early in the draft when its possible

Right now, the kicker for Dallas should expect one field goal for this upcoming game. Competitive Jerry?

You can already see the frustration in the coaches faces and with their subtle shots at the FO/ players in their interviews.
Did you see McCarthy’s presser yesterday? He walks in and first thing says us about the curtains being drawn for the sun. His facial expression was priceless. He makes another comment or 2 in that vain and ended with he had better be careful and had said enough.

McCarthy knows he’s a dead man walking. He won’t quit because of the money and I don’t blame him. But in Jerry’s current state, McCarthy can needle him into being fired and McCarthy keeps the money.

Finding the coaching staff is going to be key.

I wouldn't draft a QB this year. The team would use up the entirety of the rookie deal window developing him. However, I suspect the back up QB will play more and more of a role as Dak ages so at least that would be addressed and maybe the second contract would be reasonable.

I think teams only get 2 June 1 cuts per year.

   so use a top 5 to draft a QB and let him carry the clipboard 2-3 years, which would give us 2 years of play before a new contract.

But to be honest, Jerry had a very similar situation 2016 before he drafted Zeke. If you recall, we had coached Wentz at the Senior Bowl and coaches were very high on him. If I remember correctly, we met with Wentz and Goff but decided against drafting e either one coz of Romo. Their presence on the team would not sit well with Romo who still had 3 years left on his contract.
I’m not drafting a QB in the first round to watch two years. I’m drafting a LT, mive Guyton to RT, bass in place of Martin and have the entire oline on rookie deals. I’m bring Dowdle and Kendrick back because neither will be expensive. I’d get a DT in FA but Jerry won’t. I’d get a RB in second. I’d trade Diggs or bland but I wouldn’t trade Diggs for a 3rd because I think you can easily get a 2nd and maybe another pick the next year. We also need another WR. We will have a good pick, maybe realky goid if we don’t win a couple of useless games. I’d use some of my comp picks to move around in 3rd or 4th ends to target specific guys, not positions. We also miss when we try to draft a position of need over just the best player

Jerry is too tight to fire him. It was different in the past because he felt he had a shot at playoffs. We have no shot this year

Well he is on the to pay him for the rest of the season regardless. As stated in a couple of other threads, I think it's possible after the T'giving game if we don't win another one before then.

Anyone watching the Dallas Cowboys since last year has known - this team needs a complete overhaul. And for everyone who says, “We won 12 games last year” didn’t notice that while this team dominated bad teams, the better teams at times bullied the Cowboys. The packers delivered the final message in the most humiliating playoff loss in this team’s once great history.

So even though I know this owner has proven he cares more about himself than winning, if he somehow did the impossible and admitted he needs to change, we could do a rebuild that could turn thing around. Jerry won’t ever come to his senses and admit he’s done, so this thread is simply what I believe should happen, but won’t.

With that in mind, here is the outline of the rebuild:
NEEDS AND ASSUMPTIONS
  • This team will need a new head coach and entire staff. The new HC needs to be younger with a combo of discipline, innovation on both sides of the ball and inspiration. Someone like Dan Campbell or DeMeco Ryan. (I know they are not available but that’s the prototype) He needs full control of the locker room and hiring of his staff. In short, we need young and innovative, not a washed up “name”.
  • We need new coordinators that have a more modern schemes on both sides of the ball.
  • This team needs a talent infusion at multiple positions, but we need to decide first what kind of team are we trying to be.
  • This team needs an entire “culture” overhaul.
  • We are stuck with Dak Prescott for maybe 2-3 years, but not 4, because of a possible out in his contract.
  • Key pre-draft idea: DRAFT A QB IN ROUND ONE IF WE HAVE TOP 5 POSITION. He could be developed not rushed.
  • We will have much more cap space than most realize in 2025.
  • We need to part with lots of veterans who have been here a long time.
BEFORE FREE AGENCY AND THE DRAFT
  • There are a several veteran players with fairly large contracts that expire after this year, and many will walk, some may retire. How well they use that cap space is the question.
  • I would let these vets walk because their contracts have expired: DeMarcus Lawrence, Zack Martin (probably retires), Trey Lance, Brandin Cooks, Cooper Rush, Jourdan Lewis, Eric Kendricks, Chauncey Goldston, Rico Dowdle, Linval Joseph, CJ Goodwin, and maybe some I’m unaware whose contracts are up.
  • June 1 cuts: Donovan Wilson (his contract has an “out” after this year with only a $3 mil cap hit), Mazi Smith, Deuce Vaughn, maybe Luke Schoonmaker. Perhaps others.
  • Possible trades: Trevon Diggs (If you can get something like a 3rd or 4th rounder), Terance Steele (if you can get a 5th-7th rounder)
  • IMPORTANT: Sign the guys you want to build around early! See below
  • Sign Parsons, Tyler Smith (early), Jake Ferguson (early) and Brandon Aubrey (early). The earlier the better. None of those guys will get cheaper. No waiting for some stupid publicity stunt.
FREE AGENCY/TRADES
  • Use some of the cap space saved for some mid-level FAs - not necessarily the most expensive but NOT dumpster dive minimum like we’re used to.
  • Focus on DL, OL, RB, LB. Especially focus on the trenches.
  • Be wide open for trades for anyone.
DRAFT
  • As crazy as it may seem to some, consider drafting a QB early….IF we have a top 5 pick, draft a QB. If not, maybe not. Use the model Atlanta is using. They have Cousins for a couple of years and they drafted Michael Pennix to be developed. We could do something similar. (There is a possible out in 2026 or 27 with Dak. It would eat some cap but it would speed up the rebuild)
  • Draft help at DL, RB, OL…honestly we need help everywhere.
  • Draft with a philosophy in mind. Like Jimmy or Parcells used to do. Don’t just do a fantasy football draft like Jerry does.
The Jones boys somehow think all they need are a few stars they will pay, and those guys should carry everyone else. Good GMs know all 53 roster spots are just as critical as the “stars” you pay. I have felt for years all JJ pays attention to is who he’s paying. Not what additional talent he needs.

As I said at the beginning, I know most or none of this will ever happen, but I’m hoping at this point for an unexpected miracle. This feels like1989 or 2002 all over again.
Blimey!
Where does one begin.
Of those with expiring contracts, sign Kendricks.
Of course we draft a QB. When the wheels come off Dak in 2 years I wish Dillon Gabriel of Oregon will be ready to lead us. (With a 4-13 record, we should be in the top 5 in the draft.)
Try to trade Micah the Mouth for a 2nd and 3rd rounder. If you sign Parsons, sign him AFTER the season and see how his 13 games equal 10 sacks or something similar.

There was obviously a lot of thought and effort put into this post and outline of possible team building strategies, but unfortunately you seem to forget who's in charge of this team and how he prepares and plans the team's strategies.

I don’t think he will but we will see. In a perfect world he fires him and puts Zimmer in and we lose out. Get rid of both of them and a good pick to boot

Which is ironic considering Tony rode the bench for 3.5 seasons. Aaron Rodgers sat behind Farve. Jordan Love behind him. Pat Mahomes sat behind Alex Smith. Tom Brady behind Drew Bledsoe. Steve Young behind Montana…Team's front office are under tight deadlines most of the time and force young QBs onto the field before they are ready. This team’s front office has no such deadlines.
