I
Sometimes you have to sit back and just truly take in how unbelievably lucky we got with this pick. Forget any QB controversy and just realize we now are a contender for the next decade. No need to cycle through a parade of "could bes". We have our guy.

Perfectly said. Oline or no oline, Zeke or no Zeke, the kid has been nothing short of tremendous.

You can say the same thing about every single player drafted after #1 overall in every draft that turns out to be a good player.

Yes you can, the draft is a crap shoot be it 1st rd selection or the last pick in the draft. There is luck involved but there is also a lengthy process involved as teams send out scouts to watch these kid to the senior bowl, sending coaches and scouts to the combines and to pro day. Flying these guys in to the facility in Dallas and working them out and interviewing them. Sure there is some luck involved there is also a lot of hours spent in determining who they may choose.

It truly is an amazing turnabout in fortunes. Just a few months ago, we were worried about Romo's career and where the team would go from there, and now we have Prescott playing lights out Andrew setting rookie records left and right. While the team is 7-1!

Good times.

It really is nice to know that we won't be going through the dark ages like we did between the Aikman and Romo eras.

The Cowboys simply drafted him where they thought they could maximize value.
any team might have taken him in 3rd round or early 4th.
waiting for 4th round means they would take him if still there, but not a big deal if some other team took him first.
They got lucky.
If they knew he would be real good, they would have taken him in 2nd or 3rd at least.

Of course if they knew!

I'm mean duh, if the Patriots knew how good Brady... You know the rest.

But it's not like they had no interest what-so-ever.

Wade Wilson spent quite a bit of time with him.

And there were several stories prior to the draft of the Cowboys having interest in him.

To suggest it was straight-out luck is nonsense.

yeah, but come on......It's like the girl you want to take to the prom and have to let her know a month ahead of time, and the girl you call on your way to the prom. Big difference.

but I don't really care how he got here. He's here and that's all that counts. As I've said before, no one is asking why to the Pats for Brady, to the 49ers for Montana, to the Seahawks for Wilson or the Colts for Johnny U, even though the Steelers chose him in the 9th round and didn't think much of him to sell him.

So true -- we had enough interest to take him when other teams were still passing on him. There's no doubt at all that we did something right. ;)

Don't get me wrong I'm extremely happy with how things turned out. But I think it's more like even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. Dak was like our 4th or 5th favorite QB in the draft. We just lucked out and had the other ones taken before we picked.

Well sometimes its better to be lucky than good, because the like the Pats got lucky finding Brady, it looks like we got lucky this time...

Correct. Was Dallas going to take in him in the 1st rd? hell no. was he on the Cowboys draft board at a spot they felt was appropriate? yes. Dallas was not going to reach for a player they felt could be had later in the draft.

Luck is the residue of design.

Or, something like that.

I am not saying it was 100 % luck , I know they brought him in once or twice, talked to him and liked him.
But they saw him as a potential project player.
I give dallas credit for that and for drafting him, since other teams overlooked him entirely.
Had dallas not taken him, he might have been a 5th or lower, or even udfa !

Hard to believe every team did such a poor evaluation of Dak.

And your brady point is good, it is similar to dak, so many overlooked brady and the patriots lucked out on him too.
The key though is as soon as bellicheck saw him play as a starter a few games, he knew this was his guy.
There was no bringing back of bledsoe.

or you could say that all the other teams were wrong in evaluating Dak, pretty bad that 31 other teams didnt think he was worth picking in 2nd or 3rd
round.
he was probably not on many teams board, and down low on the others.

Which makes me wonder how many other mistakes are being made by todays scouts and draft analysis (for all teams) on other players??

What you say is true, but how would they know no one would take him in 3rd or high 4th ??
you can gamble, but had they known he was this good, they would not gamble.
I do credit dallas, as they did take him, but the stupidity of other teams helped them out.

It is a cinderella story, and i like that, a lot of things had to happen for us to draft him, and then for him to wind up starting game one.
and then be able to play this many games, and show how good he is.
