What we witnessed yesterday is another example of a team that lacks character, heart and a kill attitude. We have seen it before in recent years, yet many of you still hold out hope that things will change. You say we have more talent than most teams. Do we really? I dont think so.

Last year we had 44-6, so we cleaned house. Blah Blah. Nothing has changed.

Put the Cowboys Kool-Aid down. 2007 was a mirage as well as the 13 Pro-Bowlers that came with it. The Cowboys are an average team with a decent QB who in my opinion still does not get it. Is he all to blame, of course not.

From top down, the Cowboys do not display the strength it takes to get it done. What do I mean? When other teams (say Eagles and Giants) go through rough stretches, they have the leadership in coaching, front office and player to ride it out and come back. How many times have we written the Birds off only to see them rally and make a run? That does not happen here.

Our team makeup does not have that intestinal fortitude. When players are not held accountable because a.) your coach is a figurehead, or b.) you can go over his head to the big BOSS, that is not a good thing. Heck, I haven't even mentioned who controls the draft.

Think about that in your work lives. What if you are a manager and your employees go over head, you have no power nor command any respect.

What we also witnessed yesterday is the end of the Wade Phillips regime. As I have stated before, I have viewed 2009 as a transition year. They will run more and put less pressure on Romo. In theory it sounds good, but Romo has not been great this year. I still think he can improve (better than the dark ages of 2000-2005) and am willing to give him through 2010. He needs a QB coach that can work with him and make him capable of realizing his full potential.

So they will win some games this year and lose others. They are not a playoff team. The Cowboys are more pretenders than anything else. 2010 will bring about some new coaches and players, but if nothing changes at the top, expect the same old same old.

I would love to be wrong about them but I don't think I am.

Stop living for the nineties. It was a long, long time ago.

Not too worried, our top two R Bs were out as well as our #1 WR ,bad play calling and bad breaks .Romo was off his game . If O U can win the rest of the yr in college with two early losses ,i like our chances.
We make the playoffs and do well ,This team will be better...

We need some leaders....

So far it looks like Brookings and Barber are the only ones that care....

but then again....if you whine too much on the sidelines.....someone might just peg you as a cancer.

This team star players.....Romo..Ware ...Newman...have to be leaders...but then again....he has to come within.....and maybe they dont have the ability to be one.

Pretty tough to argue with the lead post.

This team is mentally weak and has been for a long time now. This organization is soft. It starts at the top and filters all the way down.

When the chips are down, these guys turtle.

It is very difficult to watch.

Just a few questions for you:

1) Do you feel better now that you got that off your chest?

2) What are you saying in your post? That this team has no hope to make the play-offs?

3) If that's the case, what are you doing about it? You turning in the fan card?

4) Or are you simply attempting to insulate yourself from further pain?

I am expressing how I feel and how I see it. That's all. I see playoffs as long as shot as right at moment, Giants, Eagles, Bears, 49ers, Saints, and Vikings appear to be better teams. Much can change, but I don't see it. Like I say, I would love to be wrong.

To answer your questions:

1.) No, dont feel better
2.) I do not think they make playoffs
3.) Nothing I can do to change it. Will root for them always
4.) Insulating against nothing.

As much as I love the Cowboys, I'm unfortunately agreeing more and more with your line of thinking.

I do think this is Wade's final year as HC. And while I thought that Garrett was going to be the next HC, I don't think so anymore.

As it stands today, we are an average football team - I'd guess somewhere around 8-8 or 9-7. I don't think we're a playoff calibre team right now, and I'm not even thinking we'll make the playoffs this year.

Yes, I suppose I overestimated the quality of our players (once again) going into last season and into this season.

And while I think we've got some really good players, there's something missing. We just don't play particularly well under pressure or during many "big", must win games (i.e., Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Philly last year, or Giants in our first home game this year).

Can yet another new coach like Shannahan (sp?) or Holmgren turn it around? I don't know. While Parcells definitely made improvement, he couldn't win that elusive playoff game either.

Still, I think we should give someone else a shot to coach this team because I doubt Wade will be able to get it done.

Great post, and I have been a very optimistic person so far this year.

But not only do we need to stop living in the 90's we need to stop living in 2007.

We're not a 13-3 team. We're a 9-7 team and I was dead wrong to think otherwise.

I'm done getting upset with this team, because I am officially lowering my expectations. I'm not expecting a Super Bowl, I'm not expecting a playoff win, I'm not even expecting a playoff appearance.

I'm going to pretend this is 2005 all over again, and I'm just going to be happy with each and every win. As another poster pointed out, it is like 2005 all over again. We couldn't punch the ball in the end zone against Denver just like we couldnt punch it in the end zone agains Oakland in 2005.

My expectations for this team are simple. Just try to win as many games a possible. But anything more than that is going to be a surprise for me.

That's a great perspective, IMO.

I think we need to enjoy this season and accept this team for what it appears to be - a "decent" but not a very good or top tier team.

No, a house cleaning would have been a new HC and GM. Nether of those things happened, you see the results.

Is it alright to cheer for them and believe that they can get it turned around?

I have pretty much laid low today since I knew today would be the day for the holling and screaming fire everyone group. I make no excuses for the play of the team I do think they are capable of playing much better if I didn't then I would not be disappointed in their loss yesterday. Everyone right now pretends to know the cure for the club myself I don't know what the cure is I do know they are capable of more and still expect that out of them.

lol at turning in fan cards because we don't think our team is a playoff contender. This team still has the same losers and coaches that allowed a beatdown in our Texas stadium closing and loss in our new stadium opening. Not to mention 44-6. Ya those losers are still here. I don't expect them to all of a sudden grow some balls and become the NY Giants.

This is a very good post. Rational. After the last month what fan wouldn't lower his expectations?

Me.

I refuse to do it. I'll be just as mad over the next loss as I was the past two. I won't be satisfied/happy unless we win the division and at least make the NFC Championship game.

The left side of my brain now tells me thses things are much less likely to happen. That doesn't kill my desire to see these things happen.

OP's post is exactly how i feel. this is an average team with over rated talent and a terrible coaching staff. i've been a fan of the cowboys since 1965, and i always will be a fan, so don't try to "pull my fan card".
