I still firmly believe Witten got that first down in 2006. They certainly didn't have the indisputable evidence to overturn it.

Haha, mediocre play, 90 td's and 39 int's in the last 3 years, all while being 24-24, you talk about Romo-lovers but it's clear that this is much more about Romo-haters like you.
You'll come back with the "stats mean nothing if you don't win" cliche but if you really think that is mediocre then you have no clue as what mediocre means. This is a team game, you need good teams to win, today's playoff games are the perfect example of it, football never just fits into this conventional box....the winning QBs today threw a combined 5 INTs, the losing QBs threw 0, Brees had 1 td and 2 costly Int's with a 75 rating but guess what, the saints won the game so he is a winner, find me a game in Romo's career when his team has won with those kind of stats? You may find a couple because he's played in more than 100 games but the point is that if Romo doesn't play almost flawless football we usually don't win, now look at the record when he has a rating of over 100 and compare that to other QB's around the league and you'll basically see that when other QB's have a 100+ rating they win, not the case for Romo, so yeah, in this case stats do matter.

I'm not a Romo hater.

I'm a Jerrah Jones hater.

Jerrah and the way he has ignored this team since the Stadium has opened has been criminal.

But Romo has also greatly added to the fall of this franchise, too.

Just ask any fan around the NFL about what what they like about Romo..

..they will tell you its that you can count on Romo finding a way to lose the game if you wait long enough.

..that's my answer.

Forget the stats..

Hey..I'm watching a thing on Tim Tebow..

You know what..?

Here's a stat for you..

TIM TEBOW HAS WON MORE PLAYOFF GAMES than Tony Romo.

Now what?

The stat that shows Romo having thrown twice as many interceptions since 2006, in the 4th quarter with the game tied or with a small lead as the next closest QB proves that stats can back up anything. In this case it proves that Romo does turn the ball over in critical situations 50% more then any other QB. All QBs makes these turnovers, Romo just does it more.
I used your parameters and looked it up. By "small lead" I assumed you meant "one score."

From the 10 QB with the most attempts in each situation since 2006.

Since 2006, 4th quarter, margin 0-8 points
Rodgers 13 td 1 int 9.4 ypa 122.2
Romo 20 td 9 int 10.0 ypa 110.9
PManning 12 td 3 int 7.7 ypa 99.4
Brees 10 td 5 int 7.4 ypa 96.3
Rivers 9 td 4 int 7.7 ypa 94.3
EManning 88.4 Flacco 87.6 Brady 86.6 Roethlisberger 84.5 Ryan 81.8

If by "small lead" you meant 3 points or less...
Rodgers 9 td 1 int 9.5 ypa 125.7
Romo 11 td 7 int 10.4 ypa 104.9
Rivers 7 td 2 int 7.0 ypa 97.1
Flacco 6 td 0 int 6.8 ypa 88.8
Palmer 4 td 3 int 7.9 ypa 88.1
PManning 87.8 Brees 86.8 Roethlisberger 83.1 Ryan 79.4 Brady 78.3

Maybe you meant, "leading or trailing" by a small amount. Here's an 8-point margin or less either way...
PManning 30 td 10 int 8.2 ypa 103.5
Romo 38 td 17 int 8.4 ypa 99.9
Brees 27 td 18 int 7.7 ypa 93.1
Palmer 23 td 13 int 7.3 ypa 88.4
Cutler 26 td 18 int 7.2 ypa 85.4
Roethlisberger 84.0 Brady 83.2 Schaub 81.6 Rayn 79.6 Rivers 76.7

3-points either way...
Romo 16 td 10 int 9.2 ypa 100.8
Roethlisberger 10 td 2 int 8.0 100.0
PManning 10 td 4 int 7.4 ypa 93.9
Palmer 9 td 6 int 7.2 ypa 87.7
Rivers 11 td 8 int 7.4 ypa 85.0
Brees 83.9 Brady 83.8 Ryan 81.7 Stafford 80.1 Flacco 78.6

Maybe you only want to look at the final 5 minutes of these games. First, with an 8-point margin...
Cutler 9 td 7 int 7.5 ypa 85.3
Roethlisberger 14 td 8 int 6.9 ypa 82.9
Romo 11 td 11 int 7.3 ypa 81.2
Schaub 6 td 8 int 8.3 ypa 81.0
Stafford 7 td 9 int 6.0 ypa 77.2
Palmer 76.8 Brees 74.8 Rivers 72.0 Brady 71.0 Ryan 66.7

And again at 5 minutes or less, but with a 3-point margin...
Roethlisberger 5 td 2 int 7.6 ypa 95.4
PManning 4 td 3 int 6.5 ypa 79.6
Rivers 3 td 3 int 7.5 ypa 79.2
Schaub 1 td 3 int 7.7 ypa 76.8
Romo 4 td 7 int 7.8 ypa 72.5
Ryan 70.3 Stafford 70.3 Brady 68.9 Brees 56.9

There are two conflicting factors: what actually happened vs. what most people remember.

And only that second factor drives mass perception.

Man, that's a lot of interceptions, isn't it?

There is a thread on page 31 that lists the info. What drives the mass perception is that Romo pulls about two of these choke jobs a year. There is no getting around it. It comes in high profile situations that the whole world sees. There is no stat that can hide these blow ups. Most of the chokes come against teams with winning records which makes it look worse. Actually, Romo doesn't have that good of a record against the better teams in the league. I have never considered myself a hater, but I am not blinded to the point that I can't see that Romo has a history of chokes and there is no denying it.

Let me see if I have this right: if a team is behind by 8 or less, gets the ball with a minute or so left in the game, and its QB throws 4 straight incomplete passes, that is just a loss. If the QB throw a pick, that is a choke. Is that correct?

Man, logic is not your strong suit at all... you clearly didn't read a single word he wrote, and you still aren't smart enough to discern that the only thing that this proves is that Romo has been around longer than just about every quarterback in the league. You are using a counting stat and comparing it to every other player, and then ignoring the other counting stats that are included. Since 1998, Peyton Manning has thrown more interceptions than any other quarterback... in fact, he's thrown 42 more than the 2nd place guy. By your warped logic, Peyton Manning is the most interception-prone player in the league. Please stop embarrassing yourself by trying to talk stats on here. You're a joke.

You are simply a blind homer that refuses to admit that Dallas has any faults. There is no doubt that Romo has lost some games when he choked. To hell with stats. If you can't see that it has happened you clearly don't know the game. Stats are not needed to see the chokes. I know it makes you feel like more of a fan to defend everything about this team, but you have no credibility because of it. It may be hard for you to accept , but there are reasons that this team is stuck in an 8-8 hell with little hopes of doing anything but decline. Ignoring problems and refusing to admit that they exist does nothing to solve them. Jerry has tried this approach for years without positive results. You can argue until you're blue in the face, but it don't make you a better fan and it certainly don't make you right. Please stay in your fantasy world and don't come out unless you want reality to give you a slap in the face.

lol, there you go again changing the argument. YOU throw out a stat, the stat is blown up in your face, and then YOU say "to hell with stats". You're an embarrassment.

He was our best player in the Denver game...by far.
If you blame him in that case you have a massive agenda.

For 90% of the game, he played great, but he couldn't play great when it mattered most. The game was in his hands, and he made a mistake that cost us the game. If you can't accept that, you have a massive agenda.

2006: One more yard. That's all.

If Witten had gained just one more yard on 3rd down against Seattle, the Cowboys would have had a 1st-and-goal. Victory would have been almost certain in such a situation.

Analysis: This season actually didn't have that much potential. Even if the Cowboys had won in Seattle, they almost certainly would have lost in the divisional or conference playoff round, in my opinion. HOWEVER.....winning the franchise's first true road playoff game since 1992 would have been nice. (As it is, it's the year 2014 now and the Cowboys still haven't won a true road playoff game since that 1992 NFC title game.)

I still firmly believe Witten got that first down in 2006. They certainly didn't have the indisputable evidence to overturn it.

Overturning Witten's catch was huge, especially since the sideline judge was standing right there and they used a bad and inconclusive camera angle to overturn the first down. It was just a horrible call, IMO. Add to that the fact that Terry Glenn fumbled the ball out of the end zone and our D's inability to stop an obvious run after the bobble snap was huge. We should have gotten the ball back with great field position if our D could have held up. Everyone remembers the bobbled snap but their were other pivotal moments during that game that we just couldn't capitalize on. In addition, had we made the FG, there would have been too much time on the clock and I had no confidence our D would have held up and kept Seattle out of FG range.

He did not cost us this game. Stop projecting your fantasies into real life. The Washington game at the end of 2012, he clearly cost us the game because in addition to the end, he threw 2 earlier interceptions that were even worse than the last one, and just generally did not play very well. You can get down on your knees every night and pray all you want, but he didn't cost us the Denver game. The defense did.

He was put in a position to win the game, and he failed to do so. You can swing it any way you want, he had a chance at the end to win the game, and he failed.

Well, congratulations, you changed and mutated the argument so many times that I actually agree with you. Now, what's your point? Do you want me to show you the list of guys who failed to win the game in that situation even more times than him this year? Or do you want me to give you all of the times he did come back and not fail in that situation? The problem with Romo haters is that they try repeatedly to prove that Romo is worse than other QBs in these types of situations, but he's not.

No Percy, you're not understanding them clearly. He has great stats, but "when it counts" he doesn't play as good, ohh wait .....

How do you figure? I've never disputed that he played a good game until the very end (when we needed him the most). I've also never once said that he's the worst QB in "these types of situations". Now you're just struggling to keep up, and thus putting words in my mouth. I've also never claimed to be a "hater", I quite like him and think that we're lucky to have him as our QB (considering how little we gave up to get him), but I'm not going to just blindly throw support his way when he screws up. He is what he is, he's a 12-15 QB that's aging, is part of a "core" of players that has never, and will never win anything worth talking about, and is not a championship caliber QB.
