First draft of my draft plan for 2011. Sure to change dramatically after the combine as stock rises and falls. Need to trade down in the first round to somewhere between 16-20. Ideally with NE, but I have my doubts as to the possibility of that happening. Pick up an extra 4th round draft pick. I think this is a great opportunity to try and trade T.Choice off to NE to move down in the draft and pick up a 3rd instead of a 4th. For this draft I will just assume we are able to pick up a late 4th round draft pick and move down in the first.

1st: 16-20th pick: Mark Ingram RB Bama
other: Gabe Carimi OT, Derek Sherrod OT

2nd: Demarcus Love OT RKansas
other: Phil Taylor NT, Christian Ballard DE

3rd: Stephen Wisniewski C Penn St. (A little unrealistic that he falls imo but anything can happen)
other: Marcus Gilbert OT, Sam Acho DE/OLB

4th: (Depending on climate/status of draft I might try to move to the top of this round with a later pick)
John Moffitt OG Wisconsin (my #1 priority pick in this mock draft)
other: James Brewer OT, Deavon House CB

4th: Casey Mathews ILB Oregon
other: Rashad Carmichael CB, Lawrence Guy DT

5th: Alex Henery K (stole this pick but I like it nonetheless)
other: Martin Parker DT, Jake Kirkpatrick C

6th: David Carter DT UCLA
other: Eugene Clifford S, Will Hill S

7th: Zane Taylor C Utah
other: Jock Sanders WR

Edit: Forgot to say that I would go after Mankins and Huff in FA.

I don't like DeMarcus Love. At first I'll admit I was a little enamored with him, but after a little more study and look at his game film, he's a JAG.

Demarcus love is going to be that guy that everyone is wondering how is he available so late in the draft.

If we drop from 9 to 16 for a 4th that would
Be trade rape.

I thought long about that move, I was very tempted to putting a third instead of 4th. I just don't see that happening. I don't see any value for use at 9 either though....:(

Then they will watch game film and it will all make sense.:laugh2:

Anything involving Mark Ingram as our first selection this year is an absolute failure.

I did like how you went strong on the o-line though.

I got a real good feeling about him tick, think he could be a great feature back for us. Why you so down on him? Or just down on him in the first round?

Nothing personal against the player, I'm just looking at it from a "what's best for the Cowboys" perspective.

It can be glossed over in ten different ways, but the reality is running back is not a position of need on this team right now. At least, not one that needs to addressed in the 1st round IMO. I'm simply not that high on Ingram as a pro prospect. That is not say I think he's garbage, but I've just never seen so much hype over a RB that has ran over 900 yards just once in three seasons. I'm all for trading back in the 1st round under the right circumstances. I'm just not for doing it if causes us to bypass premier players and has us taking a player at a position that won't address our immediate need, namely offensive line.

Yuck on Demarcus Love. He's a guard at the next level, and there will be better guards available in the 2nd ( heck even in the 5th)

I don't understand how running back isn't a position of need. Felix Jones can break away every once in a while, but he's not an every down back and he's not the most consistent in the world either. Tashard Choice is looking more and more average and Marion Barber has become garbage. Our running backs suck. Start over at the position, bring in Mark Ingram and maybe keep Lonyae Miller and Felix Jones or something.

Um, because revamping a talented, youth-infused position instead of one that is old and lifeless would not be smart.

I like Mark Ingram. He is not who I hope we take in the 1st round but, if we can not trade down and he is the highest rated player on our board, then I have no issues with it.

I like a lot of the players you have in your draft.

:)

Yeah, there were a few inspired by someone :laugh2:

I understand that everyone wants to address the OL in the first round and get a big time ready to start OT. I truly believe that no matter who we pick, that situation will not happen. Which ever tackle we bring in will not be ready to start right away. OT is a position that I want to draft a player at and also bring in a FA. I do believe that one of the later OL in my draft could come in and start at OG though. Hence, why I moved down in the first and still didn't pick an OT.

I will give up my Cowboys card over 25+ years if we draft Ingram. He is OVERRATED BIG TIME........BUYER BE AWARE>>>

trading down is for teams that are super good at talent evaluation

we are not that team.

The smart thing to do would be trade down , but you make one heck of a point.

yes and no, not even really good drafting teams hit on every pick. We have managed to have alot of success with undrafted players too. Limited success with first round picks, but we've had success.
