Without a first rounder, there wasn't much to do really.

It's not a stellar draft, we'll pick up depth tomorrow but I don't expect any of them to contribute much anytime soon.

What makes you think any of the teams 4-5 picks ahead of us wanted to trade down?

Because as fans with internet access, we know all, and we could have easily heard from a cousin that is sitting next to a guy at a bar whose uncle is the night time janitor for one of those teams that they were willing to trade down for Dexter Coakley and a 7th rd pick in 2011.

There is so much that happens on draft day that we know nothing about, so I try not to get too upset at what happens.

Yea, no one ever picked on the second day contributes. You never know what is going to happen in the course of the year, and I hope that who ever we draft, they will either push the bottom of the roster to step up and earn their spots, or take their spots.

Hindsight is 20-20. Seattle had to jump ahead of us to pick him. We didn't know they'd be picking, and even if we had known, who knows if our trade offers would be accepted?

FWIW, I was posting about how Dallas should trade up to get Unger when teams were picking in the early-mid 40's. Teams are going to make trades to move up and draft falling talent; you're tempting fate if you just stand put and hope everything falls into place. Case in point, Carolina moved up to get Everette Brown and Seattle moved up to get Max Unger... both projected 1st rounders who fell to the middle of round 2. Anyway, Max Unger was a big disappointment, especially b/c I didn't for the world predict that he would fall to within 2 picks of us and we wouldn't pull the trigger. There are still some good players out there, though, and I hope we can pick up a bunch of them tomorrow.

Same story, different year.

I seem to remember this ame thing happening for the past several years.

Dallas liked Greg Jennings, but didn't make the necessary move to get him.

Then they liked Daryn Colledge and didn't make the needed move to get him either.

And I'm probably missing a few others too.

I saw a team that failed to do what they needed to in order to get the player they wanted (and needed) and then were unprepared when their pick came up.

But I'm sure they'll be high-fiving each other after "outsmarting everybody" and drafting James Casey tomorrow.

Seem to remember is accurate. We've done good bit of effective dealing the last few drafts.

Trade down and back up to get the guy we wanted in Spencer comes to mind.

How about standing pat and getting both Felix and Jenkins in round 1 last year?

do you see the price Carolina paid to go up and get him?

Didn't they trade back up to get Jenkins?

Cowboys had 11 picks and should have done something to move up for Unger. I don't understand why a team would trade down in that situation.....I was hoping they would trade up to get a WR (Nicks/Robiskie) earlier in 2nd and then Unger mid 2nd by trading picks to move up.

They need to spend at least 6 of the 12 picks on later round offensive lineman...maybe they can find 1 or 2 decent picks in the 3rd or 4th.

Sad day....

Now apparently the team that didn't have room to add 11 players is set to add 12 lesser players.

All part of the master plan, like in 1995.

Still working from that same old master plan....can someone steal that plan and burn it. We need a different approach.

Maybe they can bundle some late picks tomorrow for better picks next year....say a 4&7 this year for a 3 next year. Or a 3&5 for a 2nd. Just get up higher for real impact guys.

They have 12 picks.

Or maybe they'll 'wheel and deal' in the 5th round since they were so unwilling in the second?

Again, I saw a player the Cowboys could have used sitting there at #49 and the team getting greedy and staying put.

And then scrambling when they were unprepared for what happened.

I guess your talking about Unger who was picked by Seattle who traded up ahead of Dallas to get him. How would Dallas know that before hand?

Maybe they'll wheel and deal? have you not been paying attention to the Cowboys drafts in the last 20 years. There is no question that Jerry will. Just because they didn't do it today, all of the sudden it's doubtful?

They will use the extra picks to get ahead of someone tomorrow to pick someone they believe has a good value, not just in the 5th, but throughout the day.

me too. no player at 51 is likely to be that OH MY GOD player - but people are upset moreso we didn't get to call out a name.

and if we did that would be the hot topic of conversation.

this is a weak draft. it's ok to be dropping down this time and whether it's by pick or trade we'll be active tomorrow.

i'll wait and see before the tears start falling.

It seems like the second round perplexes the Cowboys on a regular basis.

Yup. It's the ADD kicking in.

well it was frustrating to wait that long and only see us collect even more picks we're not going to use - but that also means tomorrow we'll be pretty busy one way or another.
