Splitting hairs would be to say that the two are unrelated.

Not exactly.

You cannot lay odds "against" a futures bet, so there is no way to middle the action for the house. For example you cannot bet $100 to win $25 dollars betting against Dallas at 4-1.

The sports books simply give a lot less than the true odds are for this type of proposition. This is how they cash in without the normal "middle and vig" position.

In all actuality Dallas' true odds are far greater than 4-1.
