IRVING, Texas -- Roy Williams remains the Dallas Cowboys' No. 1 receiver, at least in his mind.

After putting in a lot of extra offseason work with quarterback Tony Romo, Williams is stunned that they haven't made more progress.

"It's just not even close," Williams said. "It's not even funny. Not even close."

Williams does not believe his poor production accurately portrays his performance.

"I'm the No. 1 receiver. But things are just going No. 2's way."

The No. 2 is Miles Austin, who has produced like a Pro Bowler since moving into the starting lineup. Austin has set an NFL record with 482 yards in his first three starts, scoring on five of his 21 receptions during that span.

Compare that to Williams' statistics in 16 games since arriving from Detroit in a blockbuster deal: 33 catches, 447 yards and three touchdowns.

Considering those numbers, how could Williams possibly still see himself as the Cowboys' No. 1 receiver?

"He gets the ball thrown correctly his way," Williams said of Austin. "I'm stretching and falling and doing everything. Everybody [else] who's been here's balls are there. Our footballs [from Romo to Williams] are everywhere right now."

Williams has caught only 14 of 37 passes thrown his way this season. Only four receivers in the league who have been targeted at least 25 times have caught a lower percentage of passes aimed at them.

Williams stressed that he's pleased that the Cowboys are winning, but he's frustrated that he hasn't been more effective. He isn't asking for more opportunities. He just wants to be put in better position to make plays, which means getting on the same page with Romo.

"We're going to be fine there," Romo said after Sunday's win over the Seattle Seahawks. "I know what Roy's doing. It's just a matter of going back and looking the tape and seeing what we have to do better. But it's just part of growing with a receiver."

This guy really is annoying.

he has been this way all year, just say nothing or just only talk about the overall production of the wr as a whole.

but he cant do it because his ego is too big and personal stats are as importabt as winning.

Really annoying guy.

And I bet Romo and Austin are even making secret plays without you too, Roy.

Roy sucks. Been saying it from the word go.

Had you-know-who made these comments, it would be headlines on ESPN and Dallas writers would have bleeding finger tips.

both these guy are doing things wrong. Roy is all over the place with his routes and when he does run them correctly he either drops the pass or Romo throws a terrible pass that's uncatchable. they gotta get this figured out cause it's really embarrassing. the 49er qbs aren't having trouble getting Crabtree the ball or Mark Sanchez isn't having trouble getting Braylon Edwards the ball.

Roy may be speaking the truth, but you dont say that type of stuff. As sensitive as he is, he's going to have even more haters after yearing that, and even more media members are going to tear into him.

But the passes to him aren't on target.

I'm not worried at all though. We're moving the ball and winning games. Once he and Romo do start to connect, we're going to be VERY tough to beat.

I agree and I have no doubt both guys are working to improve it.

You'd think he'd have the common sense not to say that type of stuff.

Each and every week, I'm starting to dislike him more and more.

Least favorite player on the team.

He's been making excuses since he got here.

Apologists unite, tell me about his 4.4 speed. Or that year he went to the pro bowl. Or how good he is at catching the ball in traffic.

Even if he's covered throw him the ball? Yeah real smart, Romo gets blasted for being careless with the ball - why try to jam it into Keyshawn 2.0 when you've got guys like Austin/Hurd/Crayton/Witten getting wide open.

What an incredibly stupid thing for him to say, even if he's right.

Roy is holding this offense back. I believe (you can bump and quote me) one of these games their miscommunication will cost the Cowboys a win. Could be this Sunday night. I say use him only in 3 TE packages.
