If we were as deadly of an offense as some say....shouldn't be a problem. You march the ball right down their throat.

I mean...come on, right? A "top five offense"...but only when it's easy?

The FACT is both (all three) aspects of the game determine things. If the offense is really good, they're in the best position to do something about it. Offense is for OFFENSIVE. Defense is for on the defensive. Your suppose to have more control of the game being on the offensive.

If your so-called potent offense averages 7-10 pts in the first half...somethign is wrong.

The cowboys averaged 15.7 points per game in the first half last season. That’s good for first in the NFL.

It's a case of picking stats that suit your point, right? If we limit that stat to just last year....it looks better than using...say last 5 years.

Do we want to use 1st half stats? 2nd half? Daks 10 year tenure? Jerrys last 30 years?

I was just responding to the guy who said we only score 7-10 points in the half, which is not true. I think there is plenty of things for the offense to improve on as I have stated earlier in the thread but we do need to actually talk about the facts.

I keep begging @Bobhaze to revive his thread from last season ( um actual FACTS about slow starts)...since you won't take MY word for it. But necrothreading not allowed. We have a history of slow starts, long field goals, and red zone trouble.

If you need to defined a specific window that make those stats look better....thats fine.


Even coach schotty went on record about the bad habit of settling for long field goal attempts.

Steve…below is a portion of the thread I think you were talking about. Here are some of the bullet points of research stats from last year:

Besides the glaringly obvious key stat improvements needed this year (like yards per play, points per game, turnovers per game, etc) we have some lesser known but equally critical improvements needed to make the playoffs in 2026.

So what are those hidden stats?

• Be the team who scores first - WHY? In the NFL, teams who score first win 64% of the time. In 2024 and ‘25, the Cowboys had a collective record of 14-19-1. We scored first in only 16 of those 34 games. That MUST improve.
• Be the team ahead at halftime - WHY? Teams leading at the half win 75% of the time. In 2024, we trailed at the half 10 times, losing 9 of those games. In 2025, we also trailed at the half 10 times, losing 8, winning 1 (in OT) and tying the other.
• Have the lead going into the 4th qtr - WHY? Teams leading at the end of 3 qtrs win 90% of the time! In 2024 the Cowboys trailed at the end of the 3rd qtr 11 times, losing 10 of those games, and got outscored 82-28 in 3rd qtrs. In 2025 we also trailed 10 games after 3 qtrs, going 1-8-1 in those games.
• Based on the above stats, we MUST improve scoring on offense in the 1st and 3rd qtrs. Our scoring by qtr numbers - our worst scoring qtr was the first quarter (avg only 4.5 pts) and the best was the 2nd qtr (avg 10.5 pts) We sucked to start games and also sucked immediately after halftime. This is where we must improve.
• We must improve defensively by not allowing the opponent to score on their first possessions at the beginning of the game and after halftime. Our defense allowed the opponent to score on their opening drive of the game and the first drive of the 2nd half nearly 60% of the time. Cut that down to about 20-25% and we are vastly improved.

From a big picture standpoint, the first thing that jumps out to me is how we start games on both sides of the ball. Falling behind early puts instant pressure on the offense but conversely, getting a lead early gives us a very realistic chance to win games.

Not worried about the offense at all. They didn't lose a single starter. Same rb depth as last year. Biggest issue is scoring td's in the Red zone. If that gets better they will be pretty dam good. I do think the defense helps them out this year getting the ball back more than last year.

Look, you asked if we have an offense that only scores 7-10 points in the first half we should ask if that offense is actually good. I’m simply pointing out that we score almost 16 points in the first half last year which was best in the NFL. I don’t disagree that there are other things that the offense can improve on but let’s not pretend like this is a weak offense that only gets points in garbage time.

My thinking on this season offensively is this:
So far word on Guyton is that he may have turned the corner'
IF TRUE, then we only have to worry about RT. That is manageable.
Means Ferguson or whoever will be doing lots of chipping and maybe even more
So the TE is not likely to be as important in the passing game as we would like
THEREFORE, two things will matter a lot:
WR3 MUST produce to make the defenses pay for covering Lamb and Pickens hard
AND a RB out of the backfield being a real receiving threat.

It’ll at worse be just outside the top ten

And i actually expect it to take a dip this year

I expect the O to be better this year. I didn't think they were all that. Taking a dip from last year would be a disaster. I expect them to peak this year.
