The injury to Flozell was a bit of bad luck, but we've let the right tackle position hold us hostage for two years in a row trying to get by with undrafted free agents and 6th round draft picks. Its time to allocate some resources to the position. This is the best offensive tackle draft in a decade. There is good value there. You might can find a OT in the 2nd round this year that would be a 1st rounder any other year. You might can get someone at #18 who would be a Top 10 pick any other year. To compete in the NFC, you have to have a RT who can occasionally hold his own again Jevon Kearse, Michael Strahan, Julius Peppers and Leonard Little unless you want Jason Witten to be a fulltime blocker and never go out on a pass pattern.
Pettiti will make a fine backup/swing tackle. Nothing wrong with getting that with a 6th round pick. And if Pettiti shows he can fill in admirably if a starter goes down, he'll have a long career in the NFL in that role.
