Kyle Orton could never get us more than an 8 win season, so you'd have to be crazy to trade Romo...

Not saying its Tony's fault but 6-10, 8-8 and 8-8 last 3 seasons. So if trading him improves this team long term. I'm in favor of it.

Now that all the homers are talking about trading Romo for two firsts, I'm starting to rethink my position on Romo.

Is that 2nd 1st pick conditional on the team being able to work out an extension with Romo because who'd give up two 1st's for a rental? I'd be happy just getting a 3rd pick in next year's draft in addition to the 1st this year given how strong the QB class will be.

The picks wouldn't be conditional but the trade would hinge on Tony and his agent settling on a contract with the new club. Goes thru the FOs both clubs and the NFL FO as well before executing.

Two first rounders could be Brady Quinn and Tyson Jackson...or Joey Harrington and Braylon Edwards...or Bobby Carpenter and Felix Jones.

No thanks. I'll keep my top 10 QB and press on.

This.

I want to win now. And he's the only chance we got.

Romo was injured during that 6-10 season. ( Romo only started 6 of those games ) You seriously gonna hold that against him? Oh & the pathetic O-Line is what got him injured. Dude is taking a beating every season.

In the 5 full games Romo played that season he had 7 int's and the Cowboys were 1-4. In the game he was injured vs the Giants he was off to a real good start and there's a good chance the Cowboys would have won had he not been injured but he did play a part in that 6-10 season. In only 2 of the 5 full games he played was his passer rating over 90.0.

How do you get from this that he reads the Zone? A trade is a possibility for almost every player in the league. But yes, for two 1's, I'd say go for it. No team would give up two 1's though when he could opt for free agency the very next year. That could ruin the team he goes to.

Just like us they could franchise him twice and have him for 3 regardless, I doubt he plays much longer then that anyways

Al Davis is dead. Two firsts is not happening. A 1st and a 3rd, anyone?

We traded a first and third for Morris Claiborne. Romo is worth more than that IMO. I would require a lot more to even consider trading him especially with this QB draft and FA class.

Weak draft... one's are worth less this year and we need a QB. We've got a better chance sticking with Romo and hitting on our own draft picks.

Actually it was a first and a second for Mo.

I think Romo is worth at least two #1's with one of those #1's a top 10 pick.

I think Ware should be worth a 1st and a 3rd due to injury concerns but how often does the best pass rusher over the last 5 years become available on the market.

And the the first was the pick we were going to use on the player to begin with. That's a different story from what you'd get for a player after you've already had ten seasons' use out of him.

No matter what resources we use to try to replace Romo, there's risk that we'll whiff on the selection. There's no getting around that. If you can get enough ammunition to get one of the top 2 QBs in a draft, and get by with a player who's started for other teams in the league in the interim, you have to look at that seriously.

The other option is start spending mid-round picks every year and see if you get lucky again. That works for me, too, but we'd better get started this year if that's the direction we want to go.

I don't think there's one player on this team that I'd opt to keep over two 1's.

Marcus Spears, Bobby Carpentar, Felix Jones, Mike Jenkins. Which two did you want?

Romo won't likely draw 2 firsts.

Perhaps not a first at all.

I feel erod put it best with his post.
Folks love them some drafted players (myself included)...most of them will be gone in 3 years. Most of them are not really that good...so back-up players.

2 firsts could be 2 busts. Commanders had 2 firsts a few years back...Samuels was great...Arrington was a headache.

It won't matter, because it won't happen, but it'd have to be at least two 1's to get a team to give up a franchise QB, even at his age. They're just too valuable.

He is not really a franchise QB at this point though.
Don't get me wrong the guy is one of the best playing right now.
A franchise QB is one you build your team around for many years... I don't know how many years he has left...especially behind that line and with his reputation as a choker (valid or not).

 First off, Romo still has years. Second, by your logic, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton, etc. aren't franchise QBs anymore. The guy is only 32 (a low mileage 32 at that). Some people make it out like he's a 38 year old journeyman QB.

The Cowboys don't have a single player that could fetch 2 first rounders.
