Wouldn't be surprised if the source is David Mulugheta. Not sure he doesn't have a bone to pick with Dallas.
I don’t believe that anymore. Last year, the Parsons drama was a mix of the player, the agent, and Jerry, it was a circus that got out of control, spun out, caught fire, and led to him being moved.
This time, it doesn’t feel the same. I think when they had that phone call on draft day, or the morning of it, they mended fences. It feels like water under the bridge now, more of a case-by-case situation, and things have been very quiet. That’s why I don’t buy this story, because if he really had an issue, they wouldn’t need to send a fake source to one media person.
They’d go public like they did with Parsons, putting out a long, drawn-out statement about demanding a trade and clarifying the whole situation.
It’s been pretty quiet, with no word from the player or the agent, and whenever the Cowboys are asked, they’ve been honest but not dramatic, definitely not trying to stir things up.
It seems like everyone’s on the same page right now, though I could be wrong. Common sense says they’re fine with where things stand. It’s been five weeks since the non-exclusive tag was applied, and there hasn’t been a single offer for George Pickens. I think they’ve realized the market is basically dry unless they find a trade partner, which could happen, but I doubt there’s a big market for the money they want. If there was, we’d have heard about trade offers by no, especially since any deal wouldn’t have to include two first-round picks. Teams can offer whatever they want, and the Cowboys can reject it, unless it’s two firsts, but you’d think if someone was really interested in George, they’d come with multiple offers to try and get the Cowboys to take a little less.
My real feelings on this are that a lot of people around here believe George Pickens is being held back by the system. They think it’s unfair, two first-round picks are too much, and then expecting him to still get a big payday on top of it is just wrong.
That’s misinformation. Last year, Parsons went for two first-round picks and a player. A lot of folks locally and online feel Pickens’ talent level is in that same market, he’s just on offense. His camp believes he should be paid like JSN or a top five wide receiver. Look at guys like Waddle, who brought in plenty of picks, or going further back when Khalil Mack got a huge haul. And how about Tyreek Hill? Inflation has only made those deals bigger.
A lot of people in here realize that we pay attention two first round picks is not a lot If the perception is George Pickens is one of the top elite receivers in the league there should be no hesitation to give up two first round picks but that's my premise though you don't have to offer two 1st round picks you can offer one dexter Lawrence got one 1st rounder AJ Brown is older and not at his peak anymore and New England's going to give up a 1st round pick for him..
I think people we're playing both sides of the fence is he an elite top receiver that deserves money like JSN got if that's the truth then no team should be worried about giving up two 1st round picks, if he's that type of player because we've seen that compensation Go to other players.
My last example the Ravens gave up two first round picks for Max Crosby, He's making around 30 to $35 million a year and he's older just came off surgery we're talking in about a very young player about the peak in George Pickens and you're saying and I mean like the general response is the only reason he's not on another team is because the free agent market is different than the tag market and that may be slightly true, but no there have been other trades for other players that are supposed to be at the top of position that have come with two first round picks or something close to it..
I don’t want to hear about George Pickens being held back by the tag, because elite players can demand two first-round pick, we’ve seen it happen.
Maybe the reality here is there have been no offers, and while no one doubts his talent, perhaps he’s not seen as a top five guy yet since he hasn’t done it long enough.
He’s never carried a team on his own like JSN just did, or like Ham did in 2023 to prove he was worth that contract. His market might really be top 10 money, maybe around 32M at most, and they might be waiting for it to rise before signing the tag. As long as he’s here for game one, I’m fine, he knows the offense already.
Just get him in about two weeks before the season starts, and I’m good with it. I’m not worried about the soft holdout since things have stayed quiet, cordial, and professional so far.
