Yep.

And what about the winning seasons in '07 and '09?

The leading rusher had less than 1,000 yards in each season.

Yes they won in '14... And at what cost? They essentially burned out Murray. Spend a 1st round pick on a guy so you can give him 400 carries and ruin the guy?

Nope. I'd go with McFadden, a 3rd rounder and an undetermined. I don't think Dunbar comes back... Can't rely on him.

They did really abuse Murray. You can't count on that year in and out.

No joke, Our offense with a legitimate RB is on point, had that been in place this season Romo would not have been injured, in my opinion. Dez is a different story

I see your point but I wouldn't take any RB until the 3rd round. More value.

Posts this goofy are worthy of a block.
Lord.

Tony was injured on a play out of nickel set with a slot RB in the game but split out.
It is an empty set that they run every year.

This wasn't a panic or lack of talent set. We were up 13-0.
It is a staple of what Tony does.

Wait. Am I misreading you or are you saying that if we had a legitimate TB this season, Romo would not have been hurt?

Huh?

Elliott with the 4th pick would be hilariously insane.

Thats why you get two of them , maybe 3. What you dont do...........is go with your backup.

I know its a passing league. The rules favor the pass. Pass.Pass.Pass................Other successful teams pass the ball.

I dont care. For this particular set of circimstances, for the Dallas Cowboys at this point in time. I run the Ball more then woody hayes.... Run Run Run.......I let all those big guys I have invested in on the OL, knock people out or wear them down. I run the ball.

NO THOUSAND-YARD BACK
-- The Cowboys actually are overqualified here as Darren McFadden, despite spending most of September on the bench, was one of seven 1,000-yard rushers this season. None of the seven will be active Sunday.

If you are hard-headed enough to just run, run, run that's fine. Feel free to try and buck the trends and win a different way.
But running back by committee means not investing heavily in any one back.

Again the thought you draft Elliot at 4 is deranged and those people should not be allowed to procreate ... or at least watch football. LOL.

They truly are failing an open book quiz.

RB performance is year to year for all but a small handful of guys and even those outliers don't really attract championships.

well, maybe thats exactly what Dallas should try, to "buck the trends", lord knows nothing else has worked.
....................................................NOW HAS IT???? Or are you one, to defend it all?? You are defending losing.

What could it hurt at this point?? What is the big risk were taking ??? lol.

imho Dallas should be a run first team. Should have a Run first Identity. The insults are uncalled for and should be noted by others imho.

They have tried the Romo slinging it everywhere approach, for years and years now..... guess what? IT HASNT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!! Should we review the records?

I know i know, your going to spit out this excuse and that excuse and this reason and that reason....blah blah blah........ And that will make you correct.

JoeBobby it is really hard to nicely say EVERY FACT AND HISTORICAL piece of evidence suggests a certain course of action and have people ignore that and remain calm and polite.

I have advocated adding Lamar Miller to this team (at the right price) and you could certainly use DMC/Miller and run it 50-55% of the time. We can debate those merits but you are clearly uninterested in any real discussion there so by all means have at it. You are correct in that nothing else has worked for Dallas.
The thing is this season was RUN FIRST.

But anyone suggesting Elliot at 4 falls below my ability to effectively discuss football level. From this point on all those making that point are going on ignore. That way I don't insult them at all by pointing out the obvious.

Todd Gurley was a monster last year. But with his tremendous work the Rams won 7 games. If Gurley and the best DL in football plus two CB's Dallas fans openly covet can't even get you to .500 perhaps you see the issue??

I get it. I get annoyed too. ANd may have even used insults and got angry. No biggie ;

I dont follow the draft, so if Elliot is our guy and we can get him by trading out of the 4th and picking him up later on, then ......well, yeah, lets do that. Again, I dont follow the draft status of players or where and when the experts have them rated..................

We were a Run first team with whatshisface....Randle. Not even in the league right now. And , we lost Romo. So the threat of the pass was just gone.... If we had picked up Osweiller or someone like that 2-3 years ago, and brought him along, I think we wouldve made the playoffs this year. But thats a whole other topic........

Im as frustarted as you with the Cowboys. I get frustrated when I hear the same thought process and covnventional wisdom that , continually brings us to 8-8, 4-12 without Romo.

Try something else, anything else..................................something other then relying on Romo to get us there.

No biggie. just venting. And for full disclosure. I am Woody Hayes!!! lol.........at least I like that kind of football.............. 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

If we can stay healthy, I really like our RB situation next year with McFadden as the starter, Turbin as the #2 RB and Dunbar as the #3/passing down back. I would want to get McFadden 15-20 carries a game, Turbin 5-10 carries and Dunbar to get at least 5 touches (run or reception) a game.

YR

I agree with your overall premise, but I feel like Dunbar needs more touches than that. Take him off kick returns and reduce McFaddens touches. I doubt very highly he can do what he did again next year without getting hurt.

I think they could get Jordan Canzeri, RB, 5-9 #195 Iowa and Dunbar's Replacement in the 6

As a huge Iowa fan, he does not have the wiggle nor the ability that Dunbar has. One thing about Iowa running backs is they are all very well suited for a ZBS, and they are all tough physical runners.

If we go into next season with DMC, Turbin, and Dunbar. It wont surprise me with current leadership directing things so well, and making all the right decisions, like they do. And ill just continue to complain about the clown show.

Many fair points.
But also might consider last year with that Murray guy we were 0-1 without Romo at QB and scored only 17 points. Murray didn't get to 100. Weeden looked much like this year. only 186 yards passing and 2 INTs.The next week Dez had 156 yards RECEIVING in the first half alone. Murray went back over 100 as he had most of the season. One oculd argue it is much easier to run with Romo at the helm.

Dallas is 13-4 with Romo at QB the last two years. Every other QB 3-12.

Running the ball was such a huge part of our success in 2014 and I'm curious to see what everyone thinks we should do with the running back position heading into the offseason. The way I see it, these are our options...

-Re-sign Lance Dunbar and Robert Turbin and lean on McFadden as the lead back.

-Draft a RB early in the draft (1st or 2nd round) such as Derrick Henry or Ezekiel Elliott.

-Draft a RB in the mid-rounds (3rd/4th/5th) such as Alex Collins, Devontae Booker, Kenyan Drake, or others.

-Take a flyer on a RB late in the draft and hope he pans out.

-Go after an established veteran RB in free agency such as Matt Forte or Arian Foster (could cost a lot of $).

-Go after a smaller-name RB in free agency on a cheap deal such as Tim Hightower or James Starks.

Personally, I dont like McFadden. But I already know that Jerry and Garrett are in love with him. So he will most likely be the lead back next year. But for my money, this is what I would do:

I would use a pick in the 2-5 range and get a very good young back in the draft. I would also go out and sign one of these good veteran backs. 2-4 million for a year or two to be in the action. Depending on the quality of the back. Forte type or Chris Ivory type back.

Then I might let McFadden compete with the two of them. I would probably let Dunbar come to camp if he was healthy, but I wouldnt count on him at all.
