Adrian Peterson threatening retirement

Peterson hasn't said anything. So I don't know why anyone would say he has come off as a petulant child. He has limited leverage except withholding his services. Everyone knows that. His agent is doing work on his behalf but Peterson has wisely stayed quiet.
 
Well, on the bright side, if he retires he will have no chance of breaking Emmitt Smith's rushing record. :)

I have nothing against him and wish him the best unless he is playing the Cowboys. I do not want to a) spend any draft pick to get him or b) pay him a lot of money to come here.

Please don't compare him and Johnson. Peterson is a hall of fame running back who is on the last contract of his career. He is well known in the league and basically any team would want him.

If he can force the Vikings to make a trade, he can also control to which team he goes. If he is willing to push the envelope, he can play in Dallas.
 
The Vikings aren't going to let him go even if he threatens retirement. If they do, it will be nearer the trade deadline. They'll make him sit and suffer. I doubt he's coming to Dallas, but I won't hate on anyone who ... keeps hope alive. :)

To me, it's crystal clear what he wants - out of Minnesota and into Dallas. And I think between a player continuing to not show up and an owner publicly offering a 2016 first round pick, there's plenty of 'leverage' being exerted against the Vikings.

I fully expect that Peterson would show up to get his salary for week one of the season, but I doubt before then. And even if he did show up, it would be under duress and the effort and attitude would reflect that.

There is no doubt in my mind that Peterson absolutely, positively wants to be a Cowboy. None.

It would be a pretty neat trick. When is the last time any NFL player was able to orchestrate their way off one team to exactly where they wanted to go?

Ratliff and Orton were both recently able to do it to us.

And we ended up getting nothing but dead cap for either of 'em!

His chances of breaking Emmitt's record were done when he missed 15 games last season. Peterson was already behind Emmitt's pace at the same point in their respective careers at the start of the 2014 season.
 
I'm by no means a fan of the AP to Dallas trend, but to say he has no leverage is wrong. He can sit out camp and just show up for the game. If he is so dead set on getting out of Minnesota, Ratliff forced his way out. Peterson can just sit with "nagging" injuries and while doing so be a real malcontent in the locker room. He's going to carry some weight in the locker rooms eyes. He can basically get paid his money to show up for a week and pretend to be hurt.

If AP is really that dead set on getting out, he can force the issue and eventually the Vikings will cave. The question is and will be, will he actually dig his heels in and do it? If he's not prepared to go to these lengths he will be a Viking this year.
 
ESPN radio just said the odds were very slim that any team would want to give up a 1st rounder and 10-12 million per year for a very rusty 30 year old RB--even if it is AP.

Just passing it on.

I think espn radio knows about as much about what will happen in this situation as any random number of posters on this forum.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm offended. Dallas isn't just any team. We're flushed with cash, first round picks to spare, and we do not age discriminate players. Jones won't take this insult laying down sitting down standing up. Make it rain Jerry. Make it rain.

Keyshawn Johnson was never in Peterson's class. This actually brings to mind Carson Palmer more than anyone else, if Peterson sticks to his guns. Are the Vikings as stubborn as Mike Brown though?
