No, his statement doesn't change anything for me. My assumption has always been that it would cost Dallas too much to acquire Peterson.
 
If MINN really wanted AD they had all the cards. They could've(should've) re-done his deal as soon as he was re-instated. Offered him 15m guaranteed on the 45m left.

If AD took the new guaranteed money he would be locked in and left with no options but to shut up, show up and play. If he didn't take the money than MINN has the upper hand and moral high ground.

Without a new deal MINN has just offered up empty words. Zimmer and Speilman both look stubborn and spiteful. He can hold out until the end of camp, pay a few fines and collect the rest of his 12.75m. Then I'm sure he will injure something since he didn't go to camp.

All the while he is infected a young club with his bad vibes. Who do you think those guys look up to, AD or Zimmer? It's a lose-lose for MINN.

Fair enough. As long as you qualify it as an assumption, considering that other than Zimmer, the Vikings have stated they're not trading him and have never stated terms.

Why should the Vikings do all that? They have already given him a ton of money throughout his career. They paid him not to play last season. I could understand guaranteeing him money if he had actually contributed in 2014, but he wasn't around. The circumstances changed.

As a vested vet he will be guaranteed his base salary this season as soon as he is on the roster for the first game. The odds of that are pretty good. Starting running backs, especially veterans don't see a lot of heavy contact during training camp or the pre-season. Why guaranty $15 million if he is set to earn $13 million(with workout bonus) this season?

After Zimmer made it clear that Peterson's only options are playing in Minnesota or retiring, the star running back gave ground in a statement released through ESPN's Josina Anderson.


"The reason I'm not attending OTAs has nothing to do with wanting to be traded," Peterson said. "It's about securing my future with the Vikings. It's business, not personal and I understand that firsthand. Go Vikings."
Ending the statement with "go Vikings" couldn't be any more of a sign that he does indeed plan to play in Minnesota this season.

Me, early on there was talk that if Minn would guarantee the money he has remaining he would play. Personally I think he has tried to use the Cowboys to get what he wants. I don't blame him but I don't think he was ever coming to Dallas.

It can be read a few ways. I believe he wanted to be traded. I think once he realized that he would not be traded he and his agent made a statement where he was asking for his money to be guaranteed. He realizes that as an aging player with an escalating salary each year that there is a likelihood that he is released after this season. The other thought is that he doesn't want to ask to be traded because he has already done that and it wasn't successful. So the next strategy to get out of Minnesota is to demand something you know they don't plan to give you.....a guaranteed contract.

I believe he wants to play here. He just realizes the chances are very slim so he better stop turning Vikings teammates and fans against him. All of his teammates know that you don't hold the business side of football against another player. This is why he is using this approach.

It is too late now, but they should have done it months ago as a sign of good faith.

When McCoy got traded to BUFF he wasn't happy. BUFF immediately re-did his deal and gave him up more upfront guaranteed money. That is the currency in the NFL.

The Vikings want to appear like they are with Peterson 100%, but they also want to reserve the right to cut him at a moments notice with no guaranteed money. That is a vote of no confidence if I ever saw one.

That is not how he took it. He feels they bailed on him and helped trick him onto the Commissioner's Exempt list. He holds a few high level execs personally responsible and those guys got promoted. So there still is bad blood there.

I'm just saying put your money where your mouth is. If both sides really want to stay together than sign a restructured deal that makes that happen.

In a perfect situation I think he would like to finish his career in Dallas however I do not buy into the hometown discount or any of that other non sense. As for Minn I think they have done right by AP more than anyone could expect they made him the richest RB to play the game with a signed a 6 year, $86,280,000 including a $12,000,000 signing bonus, $36,000,000 guaranteed deal, Frankly I think it is pretty crappy how he has done them. He is scheduled to 47.4 mill over the next 3 years. If he is more than human as some claim playing for the next 3 years should be no issue.

what the 36 mill he got guaranteed not enough? Minn put their money where they mouth was and now they expect him to play. He has never made under 12 mill a year since 2011 they paid his butt big time

And if Minnesota thinks so highly of him like they claim to then why cant they guarantee some of his salary?
We all know that the last couple of years of these players salaries are meaningless. The teams know when they give a player a contract that pays him $17 million per year when he is 33 years old that the team knows he will never see this money. People are ok when the teams cut players over paying them the inflated years of contracts but when a player wants some kind of guarantee then people get upset with the player. He isn't saying he wants the entire contract guaranteed. He is saying that he wants a portion guaranteed. If the Vikings are really that committed to Peterson then I don't see the problem with his request.

The guaranteed money is the only relevant portion of these contracts.....Just ask our front office and Demarco Murray.

They did to a tune of 36 mill I'm sorry but they have paid him and done so very well. He will still be making 15 mill this season, 15 next year and 17 the following. They have done right by him in my mind and they should not have to pay up again. I know what he saying he want money in hand, too damn bad you got your money. 36 mill what the hell did he do waste it all?

It makes no difference what he spends his money on. You say he will get paid 15 million next year and 17 the following.....how could you possibly know if they will ever pay him that? Its pretty obvious that they will never pay him any of that money. If they plan to then guarantee it. They want the guarantee to be only for them. They want the guarantee that he will play for them yet they wont guarantee they will keep him and pay him any of this money.

If its ok for a team to cut a player when his salary gets too large then its ok for a player to ask to be cut or to have a portion of that money guaranteed. The Vikings knew when they did this deal that it would come to this point.
 
His money for this season is basically guaranteed. All he has to do is make it to the opening game. The odds of that are very good. When he does he will pull in $12 million. How much more does he want?
