The clear recovery rule is a tricky one. Without it, people complain that obvious fumbles covered by the defense cannot get overturned. It's one of those situations where no matter what, people will ***** and moan.

I think it should be pretty clear: Anything that happens after the whistle, during a play, is irrelevant.

This forces the refs to allow plays to go on slightly longer instead of jumping the gun with the whistle.

I agree, but like I said, you get a couple clear recoveries that don't count, and everyone complains about changing the rules. That's what happened about a couple years ago. I believe in the Seahawks 49ers championship game (but don't quote me on that).

So they changed the rules.
