I mean anyone who honestly thought we can survive without Martin was a fool.

They are going to have to come to an agreement or there is going to be real problems along the OL.
Fool? I thought we couldn't say stuff like that anymore....

Zach is the 4th highest paid guard in the NFL. He needs to be paid why?
A variety of reasons:

1) An extension now can solve some future cap issues. Martin is a $23 million cap hit next year with dummy years after that.

2) He's the lynchpin of the entire OL. If Martin isn't there, the whole right side of the OL becomes a really big question mark. Biadasz and Steele are only as competent as they are because they have Martin in between them.

3) In line with #1, you are going to have to do something with Martin anyway after this season. You can't let him play on a $23 million cap hit next year. So yeah, maybe it's a year before you wanted to, but it just makes sense at this point to handle Martin's contract now and put it behind you.

I dont know how any fan could watch that game regardless of the starters not being in and be comfortable with the OL as it is. Martin needs to be paid. Immediately. I saw literally nothing positive with the line on Saturday.
keep in mind there were 4 backups playing and one was a rookie. so its to be expected. but yeah, we do need Martin. not sure how much we should pay.

maybe we should try and sign Risner. just in case

I think we are allowed to.

And further, it's just a fact. If one believes we don't need Zach Martin in 2023 and can get by while he stews on his contract, those people are foolish.

As soon as McCarthy walks into Jerry and Stevens office and says get Martin in camp, then Zach Martin will have an extension of a couple of years and a big signing bonus within the next two weeks...Martin counts 24 mil against the cap next year so he's going to have his contract reworked anyway...might as well be now!

Ask yourself, in a league where good offensive linemen are always in demand, why isn't Risner signed already?.........because either he's an attitude problem or he's not very good.....and I believe it's both

In 2023 season he's 4th highest paid. Go to an eagles board please
1. Chris Lindstrom, Atlanta Falcons: $20.5 million (5 years, $102.5 million)

2. Quenton Nelson, Indianapolis Colts: $20 million (4 years, $80 million)

3. Elgton Jenkins, Green Bay Packers: $17 million (4 years, $68 million)

4. Brandon Scherff, Jacksonville Jaguars: $16.5 million (3 years, $49.5 million)

5 (tie). Joel Bitonio, Cleveland Browns: $16 million (3 years, $48 million)

5 (tie). Joe Thuney, Kansas City Chiefs: $16 million (5 years, $80 million)

7. Wyatt Teller, Cleveland Browns: $14.2 million (4 years, $56.8 million)

8. Zack Martin, Dallas Cowboys: $14 million (6 years, $84 million)

Well technically, they don't have to do anything. They could simply just cut Martin after this year. There is a small cap savings pre-June 1 and a larger post June 1 cap savings. I am perplexed on Jerry's stance here because 1) they just converted his base this year to bonus which isn't something you'd even entertained needing to cut him after this year and 2) he has a massive cap hit next year so if you wanted to do something about it after this year, there's no reason to now not do something now given the hold out. The timing shouldn't matter at this point.

If we pay Martin anymore, we won't be able to keep Micah--or so Jerry says.

Of course, he's full of poo. Do what it takes to make Martin happy or watch the season evaporate in the first month.

I think he's talking base salaries/cash being paid in just this year.

In that sense, Martin will receive the 4th most cash for OGs in 2023.

EDIT: Looks like I am wrong. Total cash for 2023 would have Martin 5th.

I would counter that and say....anyone who thinks Martin isn't going to play here this year is an even bigger fool lol
