1. Chris Lindstrom, Atlanta Falcons: $20.5 million (5 years, $102.5 million)

2. Quenton Nelson, Indianapolis Colts: $20 million (4 years, $80 million)

3. Elgton Jenkins, Green Bay Packers: $17 million (4 years, $68 million)

4. Brandon Scherff, Jacksonville Jaguars: $16.5 million (3 years, $49.5 million)

5 (tie). Joel Bitonio, Cleveland Browns: $16 million (3 years, $48 million)

5 (tie). Joe Thuney, Kansas City Chiefs: $16 million (5 years, $80 million)

7. Wyatt Teller, Cleveland Browns: $14.2 million (4 years, $56.8 million)

8. Zack Martin, Dallas Cowboys: $14 million (6 years, $84 million)
I see this argument as much ado over nothing. When Martin signed the contract he was the highest paid guard in the league. Four years, a new streaming deal, and a new TV deal later, handwaving at market inflation does not posit much. He should have thought about that before signing a 6 year deal.

The argument in favor of Martin that does make sense to me is that he is essentially a lame duck with the status quo. He does deserve an extension from that lens.

A good agent plays his game from a position of strength and he certainly has one. No way the Cowboys are going into the real season without their best and most consistent player.

Much is being made that he is under contract but in the NFL that's not like real business. There is nothing real beyond the guaranteed part of the contract.

It is amusing that Booger's balk is he has to pay other players. Since when does he have one player that gives a damn about what others are getting paid? Unless it's more that they are getting paid.
You keep saying that, but I couldnt disagree with you any more than I do. The RULES have changed and what used to work for players (holding out, getting fined, then the team forgives all the fine money) those days are over. When Martin misses a game check, that money is gone and aint coming back.... just like the 1 million in fines he is now approaching.

The teams have all the leverage.... if they want to use it. Jerry needs to muster his inner Al Davis and show the players who the boss is.

Deserve???? he deserves nothing. This is pro football. The team needs to do what they think is best for them.... just like Martin is currently doing what he thinks is best for himself, regardless of the impact it has on the team.

IMO, caving to Martin would be a huge mistake. Id hold firm and let him start missing out on soe real money. Then lets see if he stands firm.

I am not pro team or pro player. I am pro whatever works in the best interest of this team.... and this is a game of poker. IMO, no way in hell Martin sits the entire season.... or even two games for that matter.

Per AAV he is the 8th highest paid. The highest paid guard makes about 40% more than he does per year

Still doesn't scream hold out though. He came into the league paid as a 1st and the got paid as the best guard in the league. I understand his contract may not reflect his production but at the age of 32 I don’t see how he could believe he hasn't been treated fair.

What is the best answer from this FO? Do you add a one year extension and dump a few more million per year on him? Precedence has unfortunately been set time and again. I hate for this to be the one they put their foot down on, but if it is I don't blame them either.

Fair weather fans you say?

So why did our backups get destroyed by their backups in the second half? Grier was running for his life.

Backups are there to provide depth. Not be a warm body. Which is what our OL depth looked like. A bunch of warm bodies.
This is poor QB play, not poor blocking:

I dont know how any fan could watch that game regardless of the starters not being in and be comfortable with the OL as it is. Martin needs to be paid. Immediately. I saw literally nothing positive with the line on Saturday.
Do you overpay?

Best interest of the team is Martin as your starting RG. They can extend him and still have cap space to sign other important players.

Jerry is just being stubborn, which he clearly has a history of being. Martin is a $24 million cap hit next year anyway so they are going to have to do something at the end of this season end way, so why dig in now? Because Jerry often just mucks things up.

And FWIW, before people bring up the NFL teams don't renegotiate this early, thats false. The Bengals added money and one season to Trey Hendrickson's deal just a few weeks ago despite him being under contract for 2023 and 2024.

Xavien Howard signed a 5 year contract in 2019. With three years left on his deal, the Dolphins upped his pay and exended him another two years.

So if people want to talk precedent, yes, teams have renegotiated/redone/extended deals with two or more years left on their contracts.

I am surprised by the amount of bashing that’s going on here. Martin is 32. Still a top G in the league. Arguably the best. Guy is always on the field. High character. Can actually play T in a pinch. His current deal ends next year. He probably has 3-4 years left. The current deal undervalues him by $4-6 MM per. Of course he is going to try to maximize his earnings. Jerry will pay a pot head RB and a CB that refuses to tackle top dollar but balks at Martin. He even payed a lazy, overweight WR big money. It makes zero sense. This team will miss him big time. Especially when the inevitable Smith injury occurs. They have the space. They need to renegotiate with him anyway. Just get the damn deal done so this team can have a shot at it this year. Why in the world do they want this distraction? Jerry and Stephen just can’t get it right. They did so many things well but let stupid things like Martin and the K situation spoil it.

It’s just stupid.

Martin will not get injured while working out at home. Unless it is some freak injury. Dallas will work out the spares they have, to find the least spare of the bunch, and then, before the first game make an offer and Martin will come in. This dance has happened so many times I'm surprised it isn't featured in a Beach Blanket Bingo film.

But Martin or no Martin, the brain trust made a severe error by not addressing the line this past off season. What Jerry did to the wide receiver corps last year is what he just did with the offensive line. Steele will not be his normal self until next season because of his injury. Or did we, as fans, not learn a damn thing from Michael Gallup and his similar injury?

Biadasz isn't great. He may fit the title of serviceable, but that also may be a reach. Tyler Smith is playing guard, which, in and of itself is a bonus, but then you put Tyron on the edge. Tyron, who has had some great years, but is now an injury in waiting. This puts these scrubs at guard when you move Tyler Smith out to the edge. And how many games will it take him to get used to moving and not playing in a box like guards do?

This board is thrilled by Ferguson. And maybe that is something to crow about. Which begs the question, why draft a TE who is essentially a blocker. This board is raving about this kid, yet the truth is in his college career, he caught a sum total of 11 passes his first three years in college. With the sterling accomplishment of no passes in 2020. He was red shirted, which gives him an excuse. But still, 11 passes in two season! His career as a pass catcher is his senior year, which he caught 35 passes for 418 yards, seems to be the reason Dallas reached. But everything about this kid says he will be just another three yards and a cloud of dust receiver.

And still this team needs a left guard desperately. The 2023 season for the offense will come down to the offensive line. If they cannot make running lanes, which forces this Dallas team to get outside for a running game, then the entire concept of running and passing becomes iffy at best. So far Dallas hasn't shown one player who can consistently move the chains in short yardage with this questionable line.

Oh, but it was the Dallas back-ups against the starters of the Panthers. Keep telling yourself that. Then blame this coming season on the QB who will be harassed all season long.
I have been saying this all off season. Draft a stud guard. These chickens will come home to roost because they are playing the same, bet on the come, with this offensive line like they did with the wide receivers last year.

Then let's see who this board blames for the offense struggling. Dak? McCarthy? Surely it will be someone. And this well-crafted defense, and what appears to be a capable passing game will see another year go by without a sniff of a serious bid for the NFC Championship game.

To paraphrase Pink Floyd:

...The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're Cowboy's are older...Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death.

Biadasz was the first pro bowl alternate at center so he's better thought of by coaches & players than you think.

Hopefully it is all posturing so he doesn't have to do training camp and he gets an extension that helps the cap. Possibly already planned....trying to be hopeful. LOL

Sorry, he ain't Fred Beard. First pro bowl alternate is predicated on people much better than him that bowed out. The pro bowl isn't an indicator of much, and hasn't been for decades since the fans vote.
