February 17
(3:00 PM): Confusion over status of star Cavs' LB... There is an unconfirmed report on the internet that Virginia has dismissed star MLB Ahmad Brooks from the team. However, according to a spokesman at the school, Brooks' status :has not changed." Brooks had been expected to be a relatively high pick at the 2006 draft, however, opted to return to school for his senior season after an injury plagued junior campaign. Stay tuned as we will continue to follow this story.

The plot thicken's
Yes, it does.

Ahmad Brooks was the BEST LB coming out of high school and didn't dissapoint for the first two seasons of his career. I'm tired of this Parcells b.s. about not taking chances on "problem" players..Give me Brooks and somehow get Charles Rogers.

According to Al Groh, Brooks' status with the team hasn't changed. I don't think I quite buy that. Chris Wallace doesn't post stuff unless he's sure about his source.

What I read said Brooks may try to enter the draft through a special exception, but the supplemental draft is more likely because it gives him time to get into shape. According to the post, he'll be a late round selection at best.

He led the team in tackles as a true freshman, was All-ACC and a Butkus award finalist. He can play. It's just a question of where his head is, and that's a huge question.

I'd take a flier on his immense talent in the 4th or 5th.

No, just 1 pick per player. If we bid a 1st and someone who drafted prior to us at 18 does as well, there is no way we can get him.

He had an off year in 2005. I think the price for him will be around a 3rd, possibly a 2nd if some team thinks it was a fluke. I'd love to get him in the Sup and Carpenter at 18.

Carpenter
Burnett (if he can grab the brass ring this year)
Brooks
Ware

Would be too much fun to watch for years to come.
If we were to pick up Brooks and Carpenter or Lawson, I would just roll over and croak.

He is the prototype Parcells LB, except for off the field issues (Lawerance Taylor).

I really would be shocked if Parcells doesn't make a play for him. I have one more question Hos, is there a way the Boys can negotiate some sort of sign and trade for Brooks if some team jumps in front and signs him?

this guy was horrendous on the field last yr, and a trouble maker his entire time at UVA off of it

I watched several of UVA's game this yr and the guy looked fat, somewhat slow and failed to make any plays of note

I wouldnt touch him, even late on the 2nd day

David
Brooks played in only six games this season because of knee, ankle and back injuries.Had minor knee surgery during the offseason, came back and sprained his ankle. Returned out of shape and not fully healed from ankle sprain. No wonder he looked bad.;)

Washington Post sports page E2 blurb says that Al Groh denies the internet
rumors regarding Ahmad Brooks. His quote: "it's not true."

If it's not true, Rivals is gonna get its *** kicked.

As they should. Don't publish if you can't verify.

Rogers has already proven to be a massive injury prone bust with a drug problem

Brooks was terrible last yr on and off the field

why would you want those guys?

I don't want Rogers, but I'd take Brooks in a heartbeat. He is a solid football player with amazing skills and instincts. 1 bad year due to injury doesn't ruin a kid's potential.

Ahmad Brooks was just released from college at virginia, not sure of reason, this is the guy that Parcells told his coaches he wanted tapes, etc of Brooks, he played poorly this year, and was fat and out of shape. To me, he is just like Robert Jones the linebacker we drafted in 92 i th ink, and he did squat for the team, was a pushover in running defense, and couldnt cover squat in pass coverage. I heard reports where he was like 25 pounds overweight, this year too during football season. To me, he played off of chris Canty and that other linebacker that should go in 2nd or 3rd round this year. Hope Parcells doesnt want to go after Ahmad Brooks, to me its a bust.

This guy has cost himself a lot of money over the past year. He was eligible for the draft last year but chose to stay in school. He was likely a top-15 pick last year but now is unlikely to be picked in the first round in the supplemental draft.

Hostile: are you ready to dump Bradie James? He seems to be a solid player that has become better each year. But in your scenario, you are saying you would like to give up a first day pick next year to have your corps being Ware - Brooks - Burnett - Carpenter. What of James?

I figure he, Brooks and Burnett would compete for the ILB spots.

Competition is great for a football. The fact is Bradie James can play 3 of the 4 LB spots and Burnett can play all 4. That makes them incredibly valuable.

Remember the early 90's and the depth we had on the D-line? I'm thinking of the same kind of depth for the LBs because in a 3-4 scheme they are the key.
It's about having solid depth so that injuries like what we suffered with Dat and Al Singleton don't cripple us.

My theory is always play your best 11. I think Brooks is potentially a difference maker whereas James is merely a solid player. There's nothing wrong with that. It just amkes sense to have as many difference makers as you can.

It appears to be moot anyway as the reports of Brooks being dismissed appear to be false. In the 2007 Draft you can bet your boots he will be among the top 5 on my wish lists.

I hope that explains it.

I agree.
I heard all the hype about this guy but when I saw him play last year he didn't look nearly as good as I had been led to believe.
The first time I saw him play (MPC Bowl) I was looking for him but didn't know his jersey number. I see a LB running half-heartedly toward the sideline to make a tackle, he throws a weak looking arm tackle on the back who just shrugs him off.
Guess who the LB was?

Burnett is still on the bench. Until he cracks the starting lineup, we shouldn't expect much from him.

That isn't my philosophy at all. I expect a lot from them no matter who they are or how they have done. I expect Burnett to be a top notch LB and a force on this team.
