It's possible this news was in error. Please see the posts on this subject in this thread.

I think they might be in error as well.. found this on GBN Reports

Buzz contines to percolate about Cavs' LB... Virginia officials have re-iterated that star MLB Ahmad Brooks is still with the team, however, rumors continue to circulate around the team that Brooks has been dismissed from the Cavaliers because of an undisclosed off-field incident. A Virginia spokesman told the The Richmond Times-Dispatch that Brooks' "status on our football team has not changed. He is a member of our football team. Ahmad's eligibility to participate has not changed." The paper, though, also reported that a source close to the football program "expressed surprised" that Brooks was still on the team. Brooks had been expected to be a relatively high pick at the 2006 draft, however, opted to return to school for his senior season after an injury plagued junior campaign. Stay tuned as we will continue to follow this story.

washingtonpost.com is reporting Virginia Coach Al Groh has denied a Web-based report that junior linebacker Ahmad Brooks had been dismissed from the football team. CavsCorner.com, part of the Rivals.com network, reported "the decision to release Brooks from the team was made after an off-field incident that recently took place." Said Groh: "It's not true."

I agree.
I heard all the hype about this guy but when I saw him play last year he didn't look nearly as good as I had been led to believe.
The first time I saw him play (MPC Bowl) I was looking for him but didn't know his jersey number. I see a LB running half-heartedly toward the sideline to make a tackle, he throws a weak looking arm tackle on the back who just shrugs him off.
Guess who the LB was?

You obviously haven't seen Ahmad play when he's healthy and not coming off rehab. He was a one-man wrecking crew as a true freshman. 6-4, 250, 4.48 40. He led the team in tackles, was first team All-ACC and a Butkus Award finalist. I'll take a chance on that athlete.

I don't want Rogers, but I'd take Brooks in a heartbeat. He is a solid football player with amazing skills and instincts. 1 bad year due to injury doesn't ruin a kid's potential.

but he looked fat and slow this yr, and didnt display any amazing skills or instincts in the games I saw him play

combine that with his off field issues, and I wouldnt touch him

history is loaded with guys who had one good yr...guys who have one big yr then decline each yr after (as Brooks clearly has) throw up red flags for me...you dont normally see players get worse in college and then suddenly flip the switch to become good to great NFL players

if the rumor is true and he was kicked off the team, he wont be in the draft but might be in the supplemental draft...I'll bet anyone he doesnt get drafted with a 1st day pick in it

Heh. History is also loaded with sure-fire players coming out of college who flopped all over the place. Fact is, the whole thing is a crap shoot.

I'm not saying Ahmad is a guaranteed superstar. I don't think anyone is saying we should pick him in the first round. I'm certainly not. But if he's gotten himself into shape and is still there in rounds 3-4, he'd be hard for me to pass up.
