Aikman: "If I were Tony, I'd want to play this week"

Well I personally think they don't want Tony going out there, throwing darts, thus giving the media ammunition to cause more of a controversy.

Just my opinion, there's nothing that Romo could possibly do at this point that would give any intelligent person the required 'ammo' to start any controversy up. And anyone who tried would only end up making themselves look foolish.

But its not smart to hold him back cause of what the media and such think, we might need him if something happens to Dak....ala the fibula epidemic going around in the water.

No it isn't. And it's even 'less smart' to not have Sanchez active to handle mop-up duty rather than putting your starter at unnecessary risk.

A mistake I expect them to correct this week.

Looks like Aikman believes Romo is physically capable of live game action. If true, I wonder if anyone will dispute his belief as incorrect?

It's extremely likely that Tony has taken his last snap for the Cowboys barring an injury to Dak. The Cowboys are trying to protect Tony's trade value by not having him go out and struggle or get injured. That makes sense, although it places all their eggs in the basket that Dak stays healthy. It's a gamble either way.

I think that any 'trade value' pales in comparison to the opportunity to win a championship.

I'd worry about off-season stuff during the offseason.

Have people been suggesting that Romo is not "physically capable"?

The problem with Tony coming in and playing is it causes the media to go nuts and cause a stir and I don't think the team wants to deal with that right now. So you keep Tony out of the picture unless absolutely needed... and right now he isn't. The negative is if Dak gets hurt and Tony doesn't have any live action. But you can't assume Dak will get hurt.

So I agree with not playing Tony.

Well I don't care about the media, Romo, or Dak......I care about the Cowboys.

We are a better team if something happened to Dak if Romo already had some game experience.

“If I was in Tony’s position and hadn’t played in so long, I would want live reps,” Troy Aikman said during a radio interview on 1310 The Ticket. “Practice wouldn’t be enough for me. I know what practice is for a quarterback. It’s not game speed. Not even close. I would want to get out there and play.”
Obviously..

If Tony had his druthers, he'd have played 4-6 games ago, but the coaches decided different.

I may be wrong but I believe I've read posts on this site stating Romo is now incapable of taking a hit or hits in a regular or post season game.

I would rather Romo stay on the bench. Dak is getting all of the 1st team reps at practice and will probably play at least the 1st quarter. When Dak exits the game then I am sure he will be joined by Dez, Elliott, Witten, Beasley, TWill, and a couple of offensive lineman. I am not sure what we gain by putting Romo in the game (on the road) and watching him get killed by the Philly starting defense. You know Philly is going to play their starters the entire game and try to win this game. We need Romo healthy and we need people to remember how Romo played in the past so hopefully we can convince a team to give us more in a trade. Last thing we need is Romo getting hurt or playing bad so his value drops.
Romo has gotten reps with the #1s since he was declared healthy.

The last time I checked, the media doesn't suit up and take the field--the back-up QB might have to. Can't play scared of the media. That's not winning football....
This. Who cares what the MEDIA says? If your team is so mentally WEAK that what the media might say, because the BACK UP QUARTERBACK plays a MEANINGLESS game to end the season, then your team has zero shot at winning a Super Bowl.

Of course Tony wants to play.
He is the guy who asked the coaches if he could compete for the starting job when he became healthy enough.

Aikman is starting to annoy me these days. Between his anti Cowboys bias during games to his non stop need to insert his view into our QB situation, I'd like for him to show a little more class and just excuse himself from comments that he knows the media will make a story of. He knows his voice is loud.

Aikman's angle here is that he believes rust is a factor.
True but I'm still curious whether Aikman said the words "Romo should want to play." It implies that Romo doesn't want to play for whatever reason. I wish someone could confirm if Aikman actually used those words or if Clarence Hill misquoted Aikman and insinuates Romo's reluctance to play.
