I may be wrong but I believe I've read posts on this site stating Romo is now incapable of taking a hit or hits in a regular or post season game.

But nobody saying that he can't actually get on the field right now, right?

Given his recent track record, I can't fault people who have questions about his ability to stay there.

“If I was in Tony’s position and hadn’t played in so long, I would want live reps,” Troy Aikman said during a radio interview on 1310 The Ticket. “Practice wouldn’t be enough for me. I know what practice is for a quarterback. It’s not game speed. Not even close. I would want to get out there and play.”
He will get plenty of game reps next pre-season with his new Broncos teammates.

True but I'm still curious whether Aikman said the words "Romo should want to play." It implies that Romo doesn't want to play for whatever reason. I wish someone could confirm if Aikman actually used those words or if Clarence Hill misquoted Aikman and insinuates Romo's reluctance to play.
I haven't been able to find the audio, but the "should" doesn't appear in the quote -- if that means anything.

It depends on the actual comments already made by any particular member. Technically you're correct but I would say it's irrelevant if the belief underlying that assertion is that Romo will automatically sustain an injury once he steps onto the field.

None actually. I find the practice to be more an indictment of one's own inability to handle a difference of opinion more than anything else, so I don't use the feature.
I can respect that and hold the same opinion.

Well from Tony's earlier speech you could tell he has his bags packed, decision already made, etc. so Jerry just wants his shiny coin to stay shiny so he can trade him and dump the contract in the off-season.

Earlier in the season it made no sense to play Tony. It makes sense to play him now, however. It would give him some reps and help him shake the rust off. Even quality veterans are rusty after not having played a while. The sole reason to play him is to get him ready in case Dak is injured in the playoffs and Tony needs to come in and lead the team. Yes, it's try playing Tony risks getting him injured, but if he were injured it would be way better to have that happen in a game that doesn't count so that we can get Sanchez ready to back up Dak. It risks ruining his trade value of he's injured, but his trade value isn't that high anyway as an older, oft-injured quarterback. It's likely we release him anyway instead of trading him.

Play him. Give him one last hurrah for the team he carried so long, and get him ready for the playoffs.

Preparing for a playoff run should take precedent over protecting Tony's trade value, in my opinion.

If I were in Tony's situation, I would want live reps as well. If I felt as though I was part of this group that wants to win a Super Bowl, I'd want to be prepared.

The problem is that in order to properly prepare Romo you need to give him more time with the first team during practice. That would take away from Dak's preparation. Also do you leave the starters in if Romo is out there and expose them to potential injury? This is where having a veteran back up quarterback like Romo has added value. You are counting on him being able to play well if needed without the benefit of game time.

It may mean a great deal if Aikman didn't use those words. Aikman's actual quote is his concern about Romo being rusty. It has nothing to do with Romo's desire to play. If Aikman didn't use those words, it's Hill, not Aikman, who is intentionally insinuating that Romo doesn't want to play in a live game.

Romo has gotten reps with the #1s since he was declared healthy.
He may be getting a few reps with the 1st team but the majority of the reps are going to Dak. Dak is the starter so he gets most of the meaningful reps during the week. Romo gets some of what is left over and Sanchez gets even less. Also, healthy and Romo should not be used in the same sentence at this point in his career. As of lately, he is only healthy when he is not on the football field. The guy is almost 37 years old and has back issues. Back issues don't get better with age. Putting him the game at Philly only increases the chances that he will get hurt and not be available in the playoffs if by some chance we happen to need him. Leave him on the bench and get Dak on the bench as soon as possible. Let Sanchez go out and play in this meaningless game.

Aikman loves stirring Jerry's pot.

I gave this a "like" because I think it's an interesting thought. And generally true. But in this case I think it's an unlikely explanation for his comments. These comments create as much headache for Garrett, his close friend, as they do for Jerry. I don't see Troy going that far in an effort to stir Jerry's pot.

Given his recent track record of injury, how can you blame anyone who thinks it's likely to happen again?

Of course Tony wants to play.
He is the guy who asked the coaches if he could compete for the starting job when he became healthy enough.

Aikman is starting to annoy me these days. Between his anti Cowboys bias during games to his non stop need to insert his view into our QB situation, I'd like for him to show a little more class and just excuse himself from comments that he knows the media will make a story of. He knows his voice is loud.

Troy is just doing what he gets paid to do. Handle it.
