The play calling in the second half was bizarre.
Troy and Aikman are good friends. I wonder what "I think, by and large, that’s the way Jason Garrett would prefer to do it...." is supposed to mean. Just a throwaway comment to butter up the next criticism? Or what?
That line caught my eye too. Could mean a number of things. Maybe Jason really isn't the one calling the plays, and doesn't want to, or does think he is able to, change them (which makes no sense). More likely, he knows his defense can't stop anybody for an entire game, and with the quick score GB had at the start of the second half, he likely thought his offense would have to keep scoring. I doubt he felt confident enough in the running game that, even though it would shorten the game, it still tends to put the onus more on the defense. He's never seemed to have faith that his running game can carry the offense down the field, once the other team starts crowding the box.
But this comes back to my biggest criticism of Garrett - that he coaches scared. Even if you think the other team's defense is gearing up to stop the run, you still can't abandon it when you have a lead, and the run has been working. Of course, when he's tried to lean on his running game (ie, Detroit) they've failed him as well.
