Did all of you hear Aikman’s comments about the Eagle fans now knowing that “He’s gotten past the Blue Star.” This is why Irvin will always be my favorite player. He is always biased towards the Cowboys, even if it meant losing respect of other fans. He still refers to them as “we.” I understand that Aikman's job is a bit different than Irvin's since Aikman is a color commentator and all, but I don’t think he needed to blatantly state so during the game.

Deion Sanders is the same way, to an extent. He played really well for a few teams but always seems to be a Cowboy at heart.

Sorry I don't take offense to Aikman, if he talks highly of the Cowboys I'm sure some would be calling him a homer as they do Irvin. All in all I think Troy does a great job for FOX. I could like without Joe Buck who always seems like he has the hots for Troy. :laugh2:

I think what Troy really meant is that he has a job to do at FOX that requires him to be impartial to be at his best and he works hard to do that. I'm sure its also not easy immediately but something that gets easier over time.

Frankly, that is one of the sacrifices we Cowboy fans have to make if we want our ex's in the booth.

I also think Aikman is still a Cowboy at heart away from work, but that his connection is probably more to his particular relationships than the organization itself. Its tough to tell since we rarely see him in a non-work role.

BTW - I love how Roger has stayed IMO true blue on his support for the Boys. He still seems very emotionally connected. I loved how he was a key part of the new stadium process. He is still the man.

Exactly.

Which allows hime to be both a Cowboys fan at heart, and still be damn good at being objective when commenting on a game that the Cowboys play in.

I haven't seen this, thought I generally ignore Sanders when he speaks. I know early on, he said the Falcons will always be his team and when he played in the Superbowl in Atlanta, he said "This is MY HOUSE".

I enjoy listening to Troy, he is very articulate and tells it like it is. So I agree with Hos, that Troy is the best color commentary right now.

I am surprised this is the first time this was mentioned in these forums.. I figured everyone would be making a stink about it as soon as he said it.. I gotta say, as soon as the words came out of Aikman's mouth, my brother and I looked at each other with disgust.. I mean, I love Aikman and I know that he's supposed to be unbiased, but the man said "I've moved beyond the star." It's one thing to be unbiased, but you don't have to go that far. You'd never hear Emmitt, Irvin, Moose, Woodson or even Deion saying something like that. Not making a mountain out of a molehill here, still love the guy, just saying I was pretty disappointed.

ps: I agree that he is the best color commentator in the game. Just wish he'd realize that it's okay to bleed a little silver and blue every now and then.

I really don't see how its possible for a career cowboy or former player for any team to be totally unbiased about his former team.

I don't think I could even pretend I wasn't a loyal Cowboys fan even if I turned commentator. C'mon, how can Troy not root for the Cowboys? I'll bet in his heart, he's still a true fan and has a house full of Cowboys memorabilia. I know most former Cowboys do.

It's ok to be a fan of other players from other teams and to have respect for other teams. I love the game of football, period, but I'll always 'bleed blue & silver' and if Troy cut himself, I'm sure he would too.:D

I heard this last night and posted it in chat but I think there was so much going on that it kinda went by the boards.

I have to admit, I was a bit stuned when he said it. It was very matter-a-factly and it just kinda caught me of guard. I didn't really like it to be honest but I understand. He has a career and he's trying to do a good job with it.

I think that Troy feels himself that he was and will always be a very important Cowboy and I have no doubt that Jerry thinks very highly of him and values his opinion.

He's a Cowboy at heart through and through...always will be.

He has to be impartial and objective...that's his job.

Troy's the best there is at his job and he tells it like it is...if he has something good to say about the Cowboys...he says it. And if he see's something that is wrong with the Cowboys he says it. I have no problem with that.

I don't want a Hommer...I want the truth.

and I don't think he is a Cowboys basher as some do, in fact I think he tries to be totally unbiased.
I think the criticism from fellow Cowboy fans comes because we can't stand for one of our own to say anything negative towards the Cowboys.

I can see on a few occasions, where I thought Troy was wrong on a particular play, that I thought he may have been trying to be a little too unbiased. But I digress...

Anyway, His Philly comments last night was a little disheartening to me. I agree with the poster about players like Staubach, Charlie Waters, etc that would never say what he said. I mean, go aheand and be unbiased all you want but there is no need to say, "I moved beyond the star"

Lets analyze that phrase, "What does moving beyond the Star mean?"

You choose...

1. He does not consider himself a Cowboy (Star) anymore
2. He thinks he is better (beyond) those who live and breathe the star (fans)
3. He no longer allows himself to have a favorite team (almost impossible)
4. He is lying to appear unbiased
5. ?????

IDK and I really don't care because he is the best in the business, it's just that that particular comment did not sit well with me.

You Never move beyond the Star!!!

Troy Aikman has EARNED the right to say whatever he wants to about the Dallas Cowboys as long as he does so respectfully, which he always does.

I think he is only acknowledging that he is no longer a player or a member of this team and in his current career it is his job to call it the way he sees it for good or bad regardless of the team he is covering. Add to the Philly comment Philly fans would boo him when he 1st starting out in this job because he was a former Cowboy, they don't now because they realize he is no longer a Cowboy he is a broadcaster covering nationally televised games.

As one who has gotten past Aikman, I don't begrudge him that.
He is clearly sucking up to football fandom in general and does not want to be seen as a homer.
When he was at Oklahoma, he wanted to be a UCLAn. When Switzer was coach he wanted to be Jimma's QB. Now that he is an ex-Cowboy he wants to be unbiased and past the star, and that is good for his broadcasting career. So good on you, troy. We shall always be grateful for the years you gave us.

It's like clockwork.

A new season rolls around and overly-sensitive Cowboys fans everywhere start hearing every word that comes out of Troy's mouth as a slight against his former team. Where were these same fans last Thanksgiving when Troy lauded nothing but praise on Tony Romo for over three straight hours?
