Aikman's comments to Eagle fans

Troy is honest. The Eagles have been better than Dallas for several years and should be looked at as the favorites. Dallas is good now and Troy recognizes that, but until they win the NFC East he has to call it as he see it. Once Dallas wins he will tout them as the team to beat.

As one who has gotten past Aikman, I don't begrudge him that.
He is clearly sucking up to football fandom in general and does not want to be seen as a homer.
When he was at Oklahoma, he wanted to be a UCLAn. When Switzer was coach he wanted to be Jimma's QB. Now that he is an ex-Cowboy he wants to be unbiased and past the star, and that is good for his broadcasting career. So good on you, troy. We shall always be grateful for the years you gave us.

that isnt true...Switzer is the one who recommended Troy transfer to UCLA, called Terry Donahue himself and told Troy it was best for his NFL future

Did all of you hear Aikman’s comments about the Eagle fans now knowing that “He’s gotten past the Blue Star.” This is why Irvin will always be my favorite player. He is always biased towards the Cowboys, even if it meant losing respect of other fans. He still refers to them as “we.” I understand that Aikman's job is a bit different than Irvin's since Aikman is a color commentator and all, but I don’t think he needed to blatantly state so during the game.

I think I have the game taped and hopefully can check, but I think he actually said Philly fans were getting past the Star now, not what you said above...I know somebody at DMN reposted it that way to, but I dont think thats what he said

and even if he did, so what? It doesnt mean he doesnt cheer for them when he isnt on the air

Troy is trying to avoid getting knocked in the head by Duracell's when he goes to Philly!!!

I'm sure they still look at him as a Cowboy.:D

Aikman became disgruntled about the scheme in Okla., and UCLA was already one of his considerations when he was deciding on a college.
It is fair to say he harbored thoughts about playing on the West Coast under the scheme more favorable to passing, and more specifically under Donahue at UCLA.
So Switzer was already preaching to the choir in Troy's case.
Also, it was not hidden that when Switzer took over at Dallas, Troy, and understandable so, preferred playing for Jimma and not Switzer.
good try, though.

Troy Broke his leg at OU and then asked for the transfer and Barry did contact Donahue about Troy going to UCLA.

What caused him to get disgruntled about the OU offense? They ran the wishbone for years before he got there. Was he surprised they were running it while he was there?

agreed...

I was thinking last night, if he notches up his sense of humor another level, he will be the next John Madden - and I consider that a compliment...

Troy is a politician now and he loves his job at Fox. He has to come off as unbiased, even though I thought his comments were overboard and unnecessary.

That being said, I think Troy says what he really believes and he expresses his true feelings. While I do believe Troy has a certain amount of affection for the Cowboys, (how could he not?), I don't believe he has that deep down, emotional, fan-like love for the Cowboys like Michael Irvin. Mike's love goes all the way back to his childhood and is associated with his father's love for the Cowboys.

Troy at the time was just a kid.
He was living in Okla. and OU was the biggest and most successful program in that part of the country (and the nation), so it was not surprising that he went to Okla. hoping that his talents would be used more than to just hand off or toss the ball to the tailback.
This is conjecture on my part, but 18-year-old kids sometimes don't make the most practical decisions, and OU being just down the road, I'm sure that school had a strong pull on a starry-eyed boy, wishbone or no.
As it turns out, Troy made the right decision to transfer.

Chances are your right but it could also be why Mike is not in the booth for one of the networks. I love Mike but I don't think FOX,CBS or NBC are looking for homers. As for Troy there are comments he makes during game (all games) that I don't always agree with but he is only calling it as he sees it.

I agree. With Mike it's personal and he does nothing to hide his emotional attachment to the Cowboys. It probably was one of the reasons he was not retained. With Troy, it's just business. His affection is more for the guys he played with that were part of the Cowboy team than it was for the Cowboys themselves....if that makes sense. :D

Switzer told Troy that he would change the offense to a more Pro style for Troy.

But after Troy got hurt and Jamelle Holieway came in they went back to the Wishbone and went on to win the National Championship.

Troy saw the writing on the wall...Holieway won a National Championship running the Wishbone and Switzer wasn't going to change now.

Hence...Switzer called Donahue at UCLA and then Troy transfered.

I agree. I think Troy is treating his second career with the same professionalism as he treated his 1st career opportunity and I think that is why FOX sees Troy as the best guy to be part of the #1 crew for FOX.

He isnt better than Laufenberg. Babe predicts plays and where the ball will go before they happen. He really is marvelous. If you dont listen to the cowboys radio team during the game you are doing yourself a disservice.

Concord got it exactly right. OU had run the wishbone forever -- since Switzer was the offensive coordinator under Bud Wilkinson, in fact. But Troy was such a great prospect, Barry told him he'd change the entire scheme for him. (As was done in other rare circumstances for great players, like Marcus Dupree.)

But when he tore up his knee and Holieway became one of the top two or three wishbone QBs ever at OU, both coach and player knew it was better to leave. Barry called around stumping for Troy to play in a pro-style offense, and Troy wanted to go back to California where he was born, so UCLA was perfect. It was the best situation for everyone involved.

Babe does every Cowboys game. Aikman works a few a season. Babe should be more familiar with the team and its tendencies where as Troy needs to know about more teams.

I haven't seen this, thought I generally ignore Sanders when he speaks. I know early on, he said the Falcons will always be his team and when he played in the Superbowl in Atlanta, he said "This is MY HOUSE".

For the sake of accuracy, Sanders never played in a Super Bowl in Atlanta. The "This is MY house" comment came in Sanders regular season matchup with the Cowboys vs. the Falcons in 1995.;)

I love Aikman. He's our SB winning QB and handled the job with class. That was more important then many can now believe given the many off field incidents by some of the players which caused the media to negatively focus on the Cowboys. It was Aikman (along with Emmitt, Moose, Woodsen & others) but again mostly who representated the Cowboys during those bad times. He is and will always be a Cowboy. All the money he lives on he earned as a Cowboy and the job he now enjoys comes about cause he was a Cowboy.

I can't say I like the way he phrased it cause that certainly wouldn't be the way I would have done it. I would have preferred him saying something like.....I might have spent my football career as a Dallas Cowboy but that doesn't lessen my appreciation for the fine organization Andy Reid & the Eagle organization has set up/developed in Philly. He could even have thrown in a few more pithy comments. But that's me. However, also don't forget that Aikman was viewed as the brains of the Cowboys and that allows him to set aside things in his mind which some of us can't do.

BTW: I remember Aikman's induction into the HOF and his speech was lengthy and rather emotional. Just remember that whenever you question whether he loves the Cowboys.

Yeah I know that. Laufenberg has an incredible handle on the league and what teams are trying to accomplish.

Its just my opinion and not a fact, I just think he does a great job. I like aikman and buck also, but listening to the tv broadcast just doesnt feel like cowboys football for me.
