Aikman's comments to Eagle fans

Aikman became disgruntled about the scheme in Okla., and UCLA was already one of his considerations when he was deciding on a college.
It is fair to say he harbored thoughts about playing on the West Coast under the scheme more favorable to passing, and more specifically under Donahue at UCLA.
So Switzer was already preaching to the choir in Troy's case.
Also, it was not hidden that when Switzer took over at Dallas, Troy, and understandable so, preferred playing for Jimma and not Switzer.
good try, though.

ok...nice revisionist history...not much truth to anything you said however

Troy at the time was just a kid.
He was living in Okla. and OU was the biggest and most successful program in that part of the country (and the nation), so it was not surprising that he went to Okla. hoping that his talents would be used more than to just hand off or toss the ball to the tailback.
This is conjecture on my part, but 18-year-old kids sometimes don't make the most practical decisions, and OU being just down the road, I'm sure that school had a strong pull on a starry-eyed boy, wishbone or no.
As it turns out, Troy made the right decision to transfer.

Dude, Switzer changed the scheme when Aikman agreed to attend OU...they did go away from the wishbone...when Aikman broke his leg Switzer went with Jamelle Holloway, and they switched back to the wishbone

Aikman is still a Cowboy and a fan. Just listen to him on Duhnam & Miller when he starts his weekly talk with them again once the season starts. He needs to say these things for the fans of the HATERS. This isn't by far the worst thing he said against the Cowboys.

He is the best there is and tell it straight forward. Does not pull any punches. Do you want him to be the Theisman?

Already?...........................with the Troy's this and the Troy's that, yadda, yadda, yadda?

Troy is the only major quarterback since Dandy Don to be so highly thought of as to be a commentator on a weekly basis, no Montana, Elway, Marino, Young, Moon, Cunningham, Bradshaw, Stabler, Kelly, in the booth on Sundays.

Theisman doesn't count, I said major, same goes for Simms, I said respected.

These others on the list haven't been in a position regularly enough where they have to adopt neutrality, mainly they're talking heads in pre-game.

Bradshaw is a Steeler and proud of it, Young looks constipated and is unwaveringly pro-niner, Marino is mildly ******** from concussions but pro-Dolphin and Esiason is a slicksuited politician who needs to calmdown about the bengals being above .500.

So Mr. Aikman is by default, not that he isn't talented, the greatest quarterback commentator in the booth today.

im surprised FacinFools' hasn't argued with everyone in this thread already . Yeah it does seem like he says some "bad" things about the cowboys everyonce in a while but he comes off as really unbiased. there hasnt been much good to say as long as he's been announcing though.

bar none. i'm glad he doesn't homer around. i'm glad he tells us what he sees, honestly, how he sees it. we've got cheerleaders and we've got mickaroo to spin tales of gold.

so when troy does compliment someone, you know he means it. i see *nothing* wrong with that.

Troy does a great job and I'm proud to call him a cowboy, unlike some of the other players we've had. He's just trying to be professional, and avoid getting things thrown at him at Eagles games.

regardless of bias or non bias Aikman is a boringly dull analyst.. I am so hoping that his NASCAR gig will need his full time attention. I think DJ is MUCH better... Aikman is the anti-Meridith...his attempts at humor are putrid... He takes himself and the game way too serious.. His analysis of anything outside of the passing game is weak.. He is just awful imho. There isn't one thing about his analysis that is ever fresh or new. He should be renamed Captain Obvious... Here is a sample of Aikman's analysis (Randy Moss just had a very catchable ball bounce off his hands for an incompletion)

Aikman "Randy Moss should have caught that ball.":puke: :bang2:

Why doesn't he tell me how or why the Raiders have been setting that play up all day or how there were other options available...tons of etc.

I get from Mr. Aikman just what I seen and not a smidgen more (thus Captain Obvious)

There are people that like the guy and that is okay, I am glad for them. For me I always feel dummer for having listened to him tell me things I know or just seen.

Great QB lousy analyst.

i think he's a good analyst but he's not "entertaining". troy isn't likely to make you laugh, no. he's not likely ever gonna be known for comedic skills.

i like how he breaks things down and i like how he offers experience to tell a story. but he needs someone NOT joe buck to compliment him for a better team.

You seem kinda anxious about some point, but I don't think even you know what your beef is.

Re your previous post: Aikman grew up in the shadow of UCLA, Covina I believe, and it was not as if Switzer turned on a lightbulb when UCLA became an option. Yes, Aikman went to Okla hoping to do more than hand off. Surprise.

And? Ya want some fries wit dat? Huh?

As far as revisionist history, like I said it was my conjecture about his boyhood dream to play for UCLA. And that dream crystallized when the injury happened and Holloway excelled. Just like the opinion that "they did go away from the wishbone." To what degree? Switzer never let go of the option that was the rage at Texas. Switzer added a passing dimension but I think even in the very early stages at Okla., Aikman began to long for UCLA and the media center it was.
And to say "they did go away from the wishbone" is subjective. Move away from, yes, but not go away. it was never as if Okla went totally aerial.

Again, nice try.:)

Even though I agree with most of you and the positive spin that was cast on Troy's comment - Still, I can't help but feel a little hurt by what he had said.

Did all of you hear Aikman’s comments about the Eagle fans now knowing that “He’s gotten past the Blue Star.” This is why Irvin will always be my favorite player. He is always biased towards the Cowboys, even if it meant losing respect of other fans. He still refers to them as “we.” I understand that Aikman's job is a bit different than Irvin's since Aikman is a color commentator and all, but I don’t think he needed to blatantly state so during the game.

I listen to Dandy Don rip the Cowboys (including Landry, Staubach and other players) many times on Monday Night Football. I will admit it chap my butt when Don sang "Turn out the lights" during a Dallas loss. I never lost respect for him though. I feel the same way about Troy. I think his comment was to let the Eagles and other teams know that, if he makes a critical remark about their team, it is his professional opinion and not his "Cowboys bias" showing up.
Wonder if Troy can sing......................:D

Yeah I know that. Laufenberg has an incredible handle on the league and what teams are trying to accomplish.

Its just my opinion and not a fact, I just think he does a great job. I like aikman and buck also, but listening to the tv broadcast just doesnt feel like cowboys football for me.

You gotta remember Troy never did color on the radio where you got to paint a picture for the listener's.

I wonder why Babe hasn't had a chance to do network games he does a really good job.

This is why I love Daryl Johnston so much more than Troy Aikman as a color commentator.

The Moose has so much more heart when he calls a game than Troy does. He never really becomes a total homer, but you can feel his love for the Cowboys.

You can't with Troy. He overcompensates and is too emotionless.

Fox Team #2 all the way!

I agree and Aikman doesn't need to validate his loyalty or devotion to the team he spent his entire career with. That stated he could have uttered his words more wisely.

Stating that he has moved past the blue star did take me by surprise and is a bit of an affront to the fan base at the very least. If he stated that he strongly believes in being open minded or objective about all teams including the Eagles as a broadcast analyst then he maintains his homage to the team that rewarded him so well over the years.

Troy Aikman has EARNED the right to say whatever he wants to about the Dallas Cowboys as long as he does so respectfully, which he always does.
:hammer:

It's funny. Owens, as a 49er -
  • can come into Texas Stadium
  • make a [negative] spectacle of himself on the Star
  • return as a Cowboy years later and be forgiven for it
Yet, a Hall of Fame quarterback, who helped land this team multiple Super Bowl victories and cement pride in the hearts' of Dallas fans for decades to come...

...is getting bashed for simply saying, "I've moved beyond the Star"?

What ah world! What AH world! :)
