Albert Breer leaving DMN

disappointing as a local fan. why cant jfe go there?!?~!?!? but as a journalist major its good to see him moving up . good luck al.

This is too bad. Breer was excellent because he brought skill at writing and both knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. Who else in the local media offers this mix?

JJT is the closest, but he occasionally suffers outbreaks of cynicism and has an annoying tendency to pick player favorites at the expense of a broader perspective. JJT rarely backs up his ideas with statistics and Breer was impressive in that area. JJT....you listening?

Also, do not discount the possibility that the money problems newspapers are having may well be part of this decision by both Breer and the DMN. Breer wanted a more NFL wide venue and the DMN simply could not afford to do that.

I liked Breer when he first got to Dallas but then he started to resort to crap

All he did was quote something of Chris Cooley's blog.

I could find more articles from the time he started at the DMN to the present
that shows a regression from refreshing insight into the game to opinion and
tabloid.JMO

What a shame...The best writer by far...I'll miss reading his work.

Unfortunately it was a quote that needed to be left unquoted. Stupid question by Cooley :(

Honestly, when I read the blog, I don't bother to notice who wrote each blurb. He was known for breaking down film, right?

His articles weren't necessarily all that different from the others, but his blog entries, Tale of the Tape was his signature. Something that he brought with him from his Pats beat.

I might miss that if no one else picks it up.

They're not smart enough.
Not being funny, but what blog entries does Grizz write that are memorable? I mean the kind that are original and in-depth. I check out his blog, and their synopsis of the day's news, similar to the DMN's. The question is does he have the quals to handle reporting side and provide additional insight.

As for memorable blog entries, I actually prefer Vela as a "writer," but his accuracy doesn't compare to Grizz's. As far as insight goes, I don't think there's any doubt that he's qualified.

He might be qualified. But the originality, as far as Tale of the Tape, is what made Breer standout. Grizz's training camp observations were bar none. However, I don't recall him providing any in-depth analysis of those observations. That's what would make me consider a good replacement.

In addition to that, Grizz would have to also report the news. Not sure he has the other side of the quals.

Should be interesting who they pick up.

WG, as long as it's someone of above-average intelligence who is a football junkie.

Media guys like Breer are few and far between. I wouldn't expect anything even close.

I wouldn't either, that's why I hope it's not a "traditional" media guy.

Or gal. :D
