Smart play by the Bears. His rookie deal, although fully guaranteed, is nominal and not an albatross at all. Low risk, high reward situation.

I don’t know what Mike does. I don’t think any of us do. I just know he has a history of getting the best out of his players especially offensive linemen.

We may not know the totality of his job responsibilities, but we do know some things from media reports and from simple observation of patterns and practices - football, in this case.
We know he doesn't coach defense or offense. How do we know this?
Multiple media reports tell us this.

Furthermore, although he says otherwise, McCarthy was "forced" to keep Kellen Moore. Usually, when a coach takes a job, he brings in his OWN assistants and coordinators.
McCarthy brought in Mike Nolan to coach the defense, which was a disastrous decision. He was forced to get rid of Nolan and hire Quinn. Coaches usually don't give up on their coordinators and assistants after one year - unless they're moving on to a better job. McCarthy did after the first year. I wonder why? I don't think it was a decision he alone would have made. Jerry's hand was all over the decision to let Nolan go.

Second, McCarthy's strong suit is his play-calling abilities. It's what he bragged about when he sought the Dallas job.
So here we have a guy who emphasized his play-calling in Green Bay as a reason for a Super Bowl victory (it wasn't just Aaron Rodgers, he would have us believe), and then he gets the job in Dallas only to ... concede play-calling to a young pup in Kellen Moore?

And Kellen doesn't even run the same offense McCarthy employed. Your system is proven to have gotten your team to a Super Bowl, and you're willing to VOLUNTARILY concede play-calling to an offensive coordinator whose proven nothing?
Does that not sound strange to you?

Third, how can you be so sure he improved the offensive line?
He had Aaron "Quick Draw McGraw" Rodgers as quarterback. Aaron doesn't need that much time to zip a ball to a wide receiver running the right pattern.

Finally, the one thing McCarthy said is that his team wasn't ready to play the 49ers. That is SOLELY on the coach. He is supposed to set the overall game tone. If your guys are scared, that doesn't bode well for the coach's responsibility to get his team up for an important game. Shrug!

P.S., you can have the last word. It was not my intention to go back-and-forth on this issue. Ultimately, we'll have to agree to disagree. Peace. :)

I assume that you realize that the Bears were ahead of the Cowboys in the claims order.

Hahaha. I literally forgot that we ever had Mike Nolan. This post was a blast from the very recent past.

Of course I just think he will pan out and I mentioned left side because that seems to be His Natural position

I am Jealous Chicago got Him even though I know there was no guarantees Cowboys would have drafted him
