Leatherwood has the physical ability to play OT but his technique is terrible.

The reason is feet are an issue is because he stops moving them, not because he lacks the athletic ability (see RAS score).

His technique is worse than Josh Ball.

This guy may be better.

The odd thing is that many scouting reports praised his technique as a strength.

Gets to the Raiders and he's terrible.

Sorta sounds like the kid needs a sports psychologist and better coaching.

It might be similar to my theory on Josh Ball.

Golfers often get worse before they get better when they change their swing.
- It has happened with some QBs also.

NFL coaches are likely changing the techniques for Josh Ball and Leatherwood and now they're just out of whack.

Most guys are gonna need a good number of reps to get the new techniques down.

The reason Leatherwood intrigues me is that he's just one year removed from being a consensus top 2 round pick. His play was awful but he did get moved around a lot.

This release is likely about sending a message and cutting bait with the previous regime.

The Raiders O-line sucks and Leatherwood was still released with them understanding that. I'd rather roll with Josh Ball than Leatherwood.............yea....

Leatherwood was a first round draft pick just last year. He must have been a complete flop for the Raiders to give up on him that quick.

Look at the testing and where Leatherwood was. He has athleticism that Ball never had. His issue is between his ears. Not sure if anyone can coach stupid and lazy.

Could Leatherwood be our next Leonard Davis?
Move him inside to LG

H-m-m -- in view of our current OL situation, it wouldn't hurt to have a looksee!
Might be a no-brainer. Nothing to lose but the time, if it doesn't work out.

I wonder if an 'athletic' LT would actually compliment a strong powerful Tyler at LG? We are going to get a LT with flaws, may as well be one that can be schemed around.

Yep. I hope this was the kind of guy the Jones were waiting for before looking at a veteran FA (like Fisher).

I have to stay positive and hold out that Jerry was using smoke and mirrors about putting Tyler at LT (in rookie year) or even considering Ball, Steele or Waletzko.

Talent-wise, this guy is about like a Connor McGovern. He could be a marginal power guard, but he never had the feet or balance for LT even at Bama.
He was injured in his collegiate days and he was always going to be questionable. I think he is now longer questionable.

He's the head coach? For starters, no one here expected Terrence Steele to be our starting tackle.
First, he's a figurehead coach.
Second, do you think playing Steele was McCarthy's idea or some brilliant stroke of genius?
Our offensive line was decimated last year. The Cowboys had no choice but to start Steele.
Besides, Dan Quinn runs the defense; Kellen Moore the offense.
What the heck does McCarthy do?
Oh, I know. Acknowledge and admit that players had fear in their eyes right before the 49ers playoff game.

*Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy made a somewhat surprising admission about the team’s mentality early in Sunday’s playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
McCarthy admitted during his news conference Wednesday that he sensed nerves from his team early in Sunday’s loss. The head coach felt that his team was nervous during the team prayer and believes it impacted the Cowboys early in the game.

Translation: He doesn't even prepare his team for post season.
... *this isn’t something McCarthy should want to admit. Not only does it reflect poorly on the mental preparation of the players, but it suggests McCarthy did a bad job getting them ready for the game.

Anyone interested in Alex Leatherwood.
Raiders released him.

He was a real head scratcher when the Raiders drafted him so high in the 1st round and he has done nothing to show he will amount to anything other than a retread given his draft status. While Dallas needs help, I do not think Leatherwood would offer anything more than what Dallas already has on the roster.

I would look to bring him in. He was drafted #1 17th overall in 2021 draft. I think Raiders have given up on him way too early. I get it that he struggled but I also think there is talent there if given sometime to develop
