Alfred Morris: Doubting Cowboys RBs is 'insulting'

With Ezekiel Elliott's suspension reinstated, the big question heading into Sunday's tilt against the Kansas City Chiefs is how the Dallas Cowboys will replace their best backfield weapon.

Not everyone views those questions as legitimate.

"These questions, I chuckle at them, but at the same time it's very insulting because we're pros," Alfred Morris said, via the team's official website. "Nothing changes at all for me, other than all these cameras in my face."

Morris appears in line to take the bulk of the carries in Zeke's stead. With offensive lineman Zach Marin insisting the team plans to run the same sort of plays, that workload has the potential to skyrocket.

Morris hasn't earned more than four carries in any game this season. In two years with the Cowboys, the 28-year-old has one game with double-digit carries (a blowout versus Cleveland in Week 9 last season). Morris, however, earned more than 200 attempts in each of his first four seasons with the Washington Commanders.

"It's no pressure. I mean, I've done this before," he said. "I came out as a rookie and I've done this before. I've done it my first few years -- over 1,000 yards. I was productive."

I agree.

If you play fantasy football you know that production from RB's is more about opportunity than it is talent.

Well the guys we have will get opportunity and their talent is still above average.

Where we will miss Zeke is 3rd and 2. 4th & 1. The passing game. The small details.

We will still get good overall production from the RB's but the extra first down we may get with Elliot is what we need from these guys.

Elliott is undeniably a super star caliber player, so yes, it's obvious his presence will be missed.

With that being said, we still have a talented backfield without him. And a number of effective players elsewhere on offense.

Biggest question for us come Sunday is still defense. Even with Elliott out.

Who's propping him up? The posts I read just said perhaps it isn't the end of the world that Zeke is out. Everyone acknowledges there will be a dropoff.

my fear is not that Morris/Dmac/Smith can't pick up the slack...it is, will Garrett/Linehan give them a fair shot. they have given up on the run game in the past with Zeke...I think they will be more inclined to do that with the current group, if they sense a change in the game

Still very meh. Outside of Alfred’s big run against the Rams, not much to write home about.

Limited sample size. But obvious huge drop off from Zeke

I think McFadden's role is going to be larger than some suspect. Morris has had a role all season. DMac has been kept fresh, I think for precisely this scenario.

If Dallas thought McFadden had no use they'd have dealt him. He's been kept as an insurance policy given Zeke's suspension. Time to cash it in.

Great Post- I listened to AM speak to reporters and was impressed. He seems poised to have a lot of success in the offense. For some reason, I think we are going to shock a lot of people, and I would not be surprise if we win all six games as a result.

Our offense is about to go into the tank.

One way or another, the next few weeks are about to give us our answer to the 'importance of an effective running game' debate.

I think the big play rushing offense suffers, but the difference is absorbed in the passing game and the points/series stay pretty much the same as long as the new backs can pass protect. We'll see what happens.

Zeke is an elite running back, but he is not the most important player on this team. He has been here the whole season and they are 4-3. Losing Sean Lee or Dak for six weeks would be season killers. I also think that losing Frederick for six weeks would be worse than losing Zeke. Despite the doom and gloom around here, losing Zeke for six weeks is not a season killer.

You're definitely not. That's mostly due to Zeke being a unique, superstar talent. However, I'm not a fan of Morris' running style at all. Hoping DMC and Smith get a good amount of the opportunities myself.

I do think that behind this line that is now gelling, though, we should see the other RBs produce solid results. No one (including Bell, Johnson, etc.) can do what Zeke does - anyone expecting that is out of their minds.

Yeah and then Alfred has a 70 yard run and you quietly sit down and say nothing.
