Hey I just got through the first half of the All-22 review and here's some thoughts from the GOOD half of the game.

1) Aaron Donald was a wrecking machine. Everywhere he went he disrupted the line and Cooper was way over matched. Cooper was decent straight ahead but is not cut out for a zone scheme.

2) Lawrence was NOT double teamed (at least in 1st half) the majority of the half. A couple times a TE lined up to make him go wider but mostly he was just not beating 1 on 1s with the RT or TE. He also got tired easy.

3) Jaylon had way too much responsibility this game. He was not able to both line up the defense and do his job.

4) Beasley was doubled twice in first half and both were good results for Cowboys. 1st was sideline pass to Elliott and second was TD to Butler.

Zone blocking is a run blocking concept only. It has no bearing on Aaron Donald being a disruptive pass rusher.

Cooper run blocks best in angle and move blocks including zone blocking. It's the straght ahead run blocking (man) that gives him problems. He has good initial blocks in man but struggles to prevent DTs from shedding his block just as the RBs gets there. In zone he looks better.

Here's GIFs from 1st half

First is great vision by Zeke. That's what makes him special.

Great scheme by Linehan you can tell he wanted to get Dez in jump ball situations early.

Like people have said, this game showed Jaylon's deficiencies

This is epitome of Heath's career

Concerning tempo. Hopefully Lee coming back will help team get lined up. Happened way too often

B b but Byron is so smart  we shouldn't need Lee back to line guys up. Byron has been in the defense going on 3 freakin years. So not only does he not get turnovers, he can't even line us up as a safety?

Dez needed to take another step forward before jumping. His jump was early. The technique should be for the WR to drive that extra step towards to DB; otherwise, the DB has the advantage.

The ball was lofted in the air. The WR has to judge it similar to a punt.

Jaylon made a mental mistake. He got outside the blocker. We don't know from that play if he physically can or can't take on the block because he didn't give himself a chance to do it.

Marinelli's defense is set up for the LBs to be the brains of the defense and make the calls.

A step forward and the ball is uncatchable. A step back toward the DB and the DB intercepts the ball before Dez can even reach that high. There was no time for an extra step in either direction.

Is this the type of analysis you use to determine Dez sucks or are you creating inaccurate realities to justify you long running bias?

As for Jaylon..the blocker was a OL with a running start. Ray Lewis in his prime wasn’t going to take on a 330 pound OL charging at you, shed the block and make a tackle on a 230 lb 4.4 running Todd Gurley. Heck even if the OL wasn’t charging Jaylon and it was just Gurley vs Jaylon in that situation you have about a 50/50shot and the tackle. Sometimes the defensive formation and play call just wasn’t right for the offensive play. It happens. It’s not always someone’s fault.

This is what happens when people are trying to back into an preconceived opinion.

That's why I'm so down on Dez. He can't even judge 50/50 balls anymore. It's almost like he's surprised when the ball comes to him now. That jump was horrific. He use to own those. Very concerning.

With a 280lb 1-tech, is it any wonder this defense is getting gashed by the run?

They're getting very little from either of their starting DT's. Both have been disappointing. I kept hearing good things about Paea in the preseason, but I haven't seen it in the games that count. And everything pointed to Maliek Collins taking that next step and thus far he's been a huge disappointment.

Listen to nothing he says when it concerns Dez. His “analysis” when it comes to Dez is hate filled, so he will never look from a neutral position. It amazes me that people still believe what that guy writes.

Jaylon is getting wrecked. He can't shed a block to save his life. It's concerning when a man of his size is thrown around like a rag doll.

That was bad placement on that jump ball, but looked like Dez could have gotten a better push off on his jump. Looks like he was expecting it inside more.
Dak has looked very inaccurate thus far this season. If he starts hooking up on some of these plays our season looks different.

As for Jaylon, looks like he tried to hop around the blocker but got caught. Hitchens coming back will help both Smith and Durant by limiting some of their snaps.

Any game plan that actually wants to throw jump balls to Dez is silly.

A jump ball is a low risk play, I don't give a crud who the WR is.

Puh-leaze.

Byron was terrific against the Rams, Giants and Cardinals. I've seen Lee in the same position before as well...like against the Packers in the playoffs last year.

Doesn't mean that Lee (or Byron) where the ones that were wrong.

I don't see it as an overthrow, but Dez was going inside and Dak threw it out. The two are just not on the same wavelength IMO.

Thanks for the review. I dont know why Beasley isnt getting the ball more. Hes been such a great weapon for us. Im not a Dez hater by any means but our offense has looked like it did last year when Dez first came back. Weve gone away from Beasley and forced the ball to Dez. It didnt work last year and its not working this year either. Ive heard its because defenses have taken Beasley out of the game but if he was doubled only twice in the first half what exactly is happening?
