Those teams chose not to mail it in and entered the playoffs on a positive note. The 76 team mailed it in mentally in the season finale, Staubach had one of his worst games ever completing only 5-22 and 2 of his his throws were picked off. He finished with a 22.7 passer rating and that game carried over to the playoffs.

The guys practice all week like they were going to play and 90% of them played a bit in the game.

The outcome of the game means nothing other than it's some weird correlation that really can't be applied to this team considering they wrapped up the entire conference 2 weeks ago.

Also how many of them had it locked up re Home Field etc as early as this one.

Not sure, but locking things up early isn't always a good thing. It causes some teams to lose their focus and mail in games at the end of the season that could affect their momentum heading into the playoffs.

Say what you will but it clearly shows that finishing the regular season strong and have momentum entering the playoffs makes a huge difference in the playoffs, at least for this franchise it has.

and I think that is exactly why the starter played the entire Det game, was to finish strong and they did. The last game Dallas was not going to extend the injury of guys who were already battling injuries. I don't think the Philly game will determine anything

If they would have lost that Detroit game I'd be more concerned.

Its almost like people forget that we have tied for the most regular season victories in our history at 13, with the other being in 2007. So in essence in all 8 of our Superbowl appearances we have not had more than 12 victories in a 16 game season.

Maybe thats why we won the last game, cause well...we needed to.

I agree.

I would have rather they won.

They go into postseason finishing the second half of regular season 6-1 with 1 throwaway game.

I'll take that over 4-3-1

Our 1976 team that went 11-3 lost to the Commanders 27-14 in the regular season finale, which led to us getting knocked off in the playoffs the following week to the Rams. We haven't done real well in the playoffs over the years after dropping our regular season finale.
Refreah my memory, how many of those players from 76 play on this team? Lol

It's been consistent through the years despite 25 years from our first SB appearance to our last SB appearance. Not saying we can't reach the SB this season but if we do we'll be the only Cowboys SB team to reach the SB after losing it's season finale. Winning builds momentum which carries over to the playoffs. A lot of playoff teams refuse to mail in meaningless season finale game because they want to enter the playoffs on a winning note. Romo's two playoff wins came after the Cowboys ended the regular season with wins. Our momentum helped us to those wins. Our two one and outs came after season finale losses.

It's just something should be viewed as nothing more than coincidental.

Yes, but how many times did the kicker eat an orange before heading out on the field before the second home game of the season while wearing the navy blue jersey? I believe that is what really matters.

We had a 3-2 Dec/Jan after a 10-1 Sept/Nov. We didn't finish real strong and our best football was from weeks 5 to 10 in my opinion. I've seen a number of playoff teams mail in meaningless season finale games to try and stay healthy only to cost themselves momentum and get knocked off in the playoffs. I remember Philly in 2010 losing by 10 points to Minn in week 16 and like fools sat all their starters against us in week 17 and we beat them 14-13 with Stephen McGee. Philly proceeded to go one and out in the playoffs, which was so predictable.

If the Cowboys reach the SB this season they'll be the first Cowboys team to ever reach the SB after losing it's regular season finale. Our history points to how important it's been to end the regular season on a winning note entering the playoffs if we're going to reach the SB. Our 1994 team was a great team but lost it's season finale and ended up losing in the NFC title game.
That's great for all 8 of those teams.

I agree. What is giving more hope today is how the defense has played over the last few weeks. Dallas is getting more pressure and more sacks and had lead to more take aways.

Our D didn't look very good in the first half against Detroit as they ran all over our #1 rush defense for 21 points. They can't even run the ball and were gashing us, however we did play much better in the second half.
