SF only lost 1 game when they had more rushing yards than the opponent.
- That was game 1 with Trey Lance at QB.
- Lance had a 50.3 QB rating in that game.

Of 4 losses, 3 were in the 5 games with their lowest rushing yards.

The opponent only exceeded 100 rushing yards in 5 games this season.

Rushing Yards per Game
- SF averaged 139 yards rushing.
- SF opponents averaged 78 yards rushing.

I’ve said this all week but I don’t see how we take it away playing only two LB’s.
Kearse is the 3rd LB.

They played 3 Safety sets ~53% of snaps.

The only times they ever played 3 LBs was 3rd or 4th & 1 or goalline plays.

In the Bucs game it was 4 Safety sets Mukuamu covering the slot WR.

Defending the 49ers run game is more about playing the correct angles than brute force other than at the 1tech DT position.
- Their unique version of zone run blocking with a Fullback changes the angles for back 7 players.

DLine
They have to flow horizontally but the timing of that is the problem.
- Too slow and they gash you Frontside.
- Too fast and they gash you backside.

Kearse is little iffy with that knee, maybe they let him start but mix more Mukuamu, Clark and Cox in there, if the call them up.

Couldn’t agree more, their whole offense to set up by their run game. Take that away, easier to defend. Can this defense meet the challenge?
Their defensive success vs the run is what surprised me.

I've studied their offense with Shanahan as HC in the past but I didn't realize their defense was only allowing 78 rushing yards per game...

The Cowboys allowed 129 rushing yards per game.

SF allowed the 2nd lowest average rush yards with 3.4 per carry.

They allowed the lowest number of rushing 1st downs.

Was that the same over the last few weeks?

Broncos, Falcons, Chiefs and Raiders rushed for more than 100 yards against them. They lost to the first three and had to go to OT to beat the Raiders. Just sayin'.

The Broncos and Falcons did it with almost no passing game help.

Final 10 regular.season games:
-Only 1 with more than 79 rush yards allowed.
- The 1 was 135 in game 16 vs Raiders but that includes 15 overtime rushing yards.
- They allowed 104 in the wildcard game vs Seahawks.

Seems we need to give them a heavy dose of Pollard, take some shots downfield and if all else fails, use the TE.

Totally agree
Also, as much as some here have a problem with it, Zeke will have to play the role of punisher in this game
Their defense needs to be worn down and Pollard can’t do it alone

I feel strongly about one thing….

Please do NOT win the toss, take the ball, then think that giving Zeke flat footed handoffs with the crowd and defense all fired up isn’t going to work against us.

They will absolutely stuff him.

First off, defer if you can. If you cannot, either start Pollard or use play action. Maybe use both players on the first series which hasn’t been seen much.

I dunno, I just don’t want to see three plays and one yard on the opening series. I think it’s a confidence and momentum killer…..and whoever it is, at whatever level….needs to get over using Elliott as if he is some sort of real weapon. Like now.
