Enjoyed it. If you haven't watched it, you should:

Garret:
1. Got the most camera time of anyone.
2. Like him better than before. Hell of a speaker. Although he seems fake to me with all the F bombs.
3. But, you can see why he doesn't succeed at coaching in one moment. After the Bye week, when they were 2-3, he addresses the team on the day back and says 'we aren't changing anything'. Instead, he asks them to go back to the Dallas Cowboy Creed, basically the values of the team about accountability to one another, and holding themselves accountable. This is Garret in a nutshell: more of a corporate manager than a football strategist, too risk averse or stubborn to make aggressive and decisive changes. In my opinion, he way over indexes on leadership 101 and motivational tactics, instead of taking an individual approach to motivating people and managing Xs and Os.
4. Everyone is different, but I am not personally motivated by a leader like Garrett. Too repetitive, leadership BS stuff for me. He doesn't take an individualistic style to getting the most out of his players. Instead he follows a script (literally) and sticks with it in a consistent (and robotic fashion).

WRs:
- All a bunch of knuckleheads including the coach. It's clear why the blew it up. No leaders, very immature, not intelligent feel to that whole unit. I personally like Dez more than most and if you watch the game highlights, you realize he will be missed. But the whole WR unit was dysfunctional and disconnected from reality, so it was probably time.

Dak
- Good leader. Like him. He has the right make-up.

Zeke
- Needs to grow up. Clearly immature and hasn't had to work hard in his life. Hope he figures it out. He is no Emmitt Smith at this point in terms of focus, professionalism or work ethic. It is also clear how all the stuff gets back to him (fat, slower, etc). But clearly the coaches didn't disagree that he was unfocused and out of shape.

Jerry
- Great salesman. Loves the team. Loves the players. Didn't realize how much of a family business it was until watching. Permeates into the culture. Don't really like it, but it isn't changing.

Overall atmosphere
- Run like a cooperation. Too much emphasis on leadership B.S. and not enough about football schemes. It's all too fluffy, which ties back to the owner, GM, COO and coach. Star is a beautiful place BTW.
- Agree with other comments that the assistant coaches seem to kiss the players butts more than they did create accountability and drive behavior. Especially in the case of the offense. It is the culture of the team.

Witten
- Seems clear he knew he was probably done at end of year. Seems clear JG knew he may be done too when he gave him the gold football and got choked up. So I am not buying this surprise story they have been telling about his retirement.

Standouts
- Sean Lee leadership and film study. Alfred Morris for being a generally good dude. David Irving came across better than I expected on his halloween vampire night. JG is absolutely a great speaker, but again, redundant. Witten clearly the most admired Cowboy. Dlaw looked great . Oscan definitely a vocal leader. Dak is a good leader and dude.

Suspicion:
- This feels very Dallas Cowboy edited based upon the offseason. (a) tribute JW, (b) try to make people like JG more knowing he is out of favor, (c) create a question mark around Dez and the WR, (d) make the Jones family seem like a caring, great group of people. Wouldn't be shocked if Charlotte (and Jerry) were involved in the final approval and editing of this.

I gotta say buddy you basically nailed everything. And you really nailed Garrett. Very Very well done in your assessment. Garrett simply ISNT a football guy or a proper motivator or tactical enough.

The entire receiving corps will be better without Dez. Wait till you see this kid Gallup. He is going to be the perfect fit for Dak. Lets just hope they get him involved and kick Williams to the curb.

At the end of the year was the time the Tennessee coaching rumors were going on. Ben Rogers said those were legit so I guess they thought Witten could be leaving then.

Plus with Gruden leaving in January I think ESPN had its list of guys from the beginning it was going to target.

Imagine 8 years of Garrett cliches and him saying he ain’t changing nothing.

Our teams effort has never really been a problem but he sticks by his system and just tells the players to try harder.

It’s some junior high bs.

Good point. It's clear that everyone knew Witten would retire for the right opportunity. I am sure it was in the open based upon what I saw.

When I hear JG's excessive F bombing, it reminds me of how I view comedians who do the same.
Many comedians use the F bomb a lot in order to make people laugh at their jokes and hoping by cursing it will cover for any lameness in the joke.
In truth, it's just lazy, a cover for ineptitude, and a character flaw.
JG's F bombing seems to be his way of trying to prove that he has real Gravitas/authority and that he thinks it will be a way for him to relate to his players.
Given JG's lack of Coaching success and due to the schoolboy reputation/demeanor he naturally has, his attempts at trying to be something he really isn't may actually hurt him with convincing his players that he is the Jimmy Johnson disciple he tries to portray himself as.
He has no extensive success as a coach so he hasn't built up enough credibility for his players to continue to fight or believe what he is saying when times are tough due to him not having much of a track record of displaying exceptional coaching ability.
Therefore, much of his attempt to display that he is worthy of a certain level of respect falls on deaf ears.

Yeah wonder if he should consider some other tactics:
1. Shave his head.
2. Get more jacked up by lifting heavier weights and taking some roids.
3. Get some tats that show even when he is dressed.

I've thrown down my Cowboys assessment in another thread floating around here somewhere. I did, however, start watching the Cardinals season. So far it is a solid show overall. A few things I noticed is that the Cardinals president is always around (sidelines, locker room, etc) so that does make me feel better about Jerry doing it. I guess I understand these top guys needing to be involved and hands-on. It is their business after all. The other thing I noticed is the Cowboys vs Cardinals training facilities. It's like the Taj-Mahal vs. 7-11. LOL Cowboys definitely love to flex their money.

I've posted in other threads about the show but I have to say after watching a later episode I love Jourdan Lewis. The way he stood up to Dez in practice and challenged him and stayed on him and competed was refreshing.

Nice post....thanks

you really nailed Garrett. Very Very well done in your assessment. Garrett simply ISNT a football guy

-spends entire life playing, coaching, and being around football.

-isn’t a football guy.

Pick one. Can’t be both bro. And we know the 1st one is true. You can hate on the guy, but at least TRY to appear reasonable/logical.

I got the impression that most of the X's and O's stuff was purposely edited out.

Now here's a reasonable take. If you make it focused on that, then you lose a big chunk of your audience.

Folks who want to say Garrett is terrible with the Xs and Os were going to say that regardless of what was shown and what wasn't.

Yeah that's why I laugh at people saying this was done to make Garrett look good. People who don't like Garrett have made their mind up. No changing that especially a Amazon series.

Zeke comments bother me the most. if he regresses this team has a problem being its built around him.

Image that, he has been around it his whole life and he still isn't a football guy. He has no 6th sense about it. NO feel for the game. He is a poser copy catting it from people he grew up admiring. He is trying to be like them, but he never will be.

Jones is the same way. Jerry is NOT a football guy.

Its the difference between theory and application.

Didn't we win 3 straight after the bye? Seems like great coaching IMO. Also IMO our season went down hill because of lack of quality depth at key positions and the week in and week out of not knowing if Zeke was or was not going to be there. The Zeke situation alone was changing the game plan and the mentality of players a couple of days and sometimes hours before the game.

Given that this show is just meant as a behind-the-scenes look, has been edited heavily to build narratives and plot tension, etc. I think trying to use it as a real barometer of coaching or playing ability is missing the point. You could learn as much about Xs and Os on a basic football youtube channel as that show covers.

I know JG sounds like a poster boy of cliches, however his teams almost always play hard for him.

To me JG is probably fine as a head coach, especially given the Jerry dynamic etc, but he has to have high quality coordinators who know their Xs and Os and will make the necessary game time adjustments. That is sorely missing on this team, especially on offense.

I think JG's lack of knowledge also shows up with some of personnel decisions, and how slow they are to make changes when guys struggle or to find roles for younger players.

Another thing JG doesn't get credit for is the change in direction on how the organization goes about building the roster. Jerry probably drafts Manziel if it isn't for JG, McClay and Stephen. I might be wrong but it feels like those 3 are on the same page in turns of the direction of the roster for the most part. I find it hard to believe the HC doesn't have a lot of input in that philosophy.

The look on Garrett's face when we drafted Gregory said it all.

The problem is that most people want to blame somebody for everything. Sometimes you are just not good enough. Sometimes the other team is better than you. It's what I like to call the Romo conundrum.
Romo was good enough to elevate everyone around him and even win games by himself. He even took a lot of chances because he knew he had to. He could get us to the playoffs but he could never get us over the hump during the playoff games because he couldn't do it alone. He never had a defense like Aikmen had or Staubach. The teams we were playing were simply better than us.

We have to find somebody to blame and we can't blame the whole team so we pick the QB, the coach, or anybody else who can to help justify our disappointment. Once we do that we can never trust that person again. But, sometimes the other team is just better.
