who should have been our backup QB.

Who should have been our head coach?

Should we have paid Murray what he got from Phillie?

What could we have done to make losing Romo and Bryant insignificant , or at least less painful?

Please be realistic. Trading for AP and having Showers as the backup are pipe dreams. Please give some valid, realistic options. Please keep salary cap in mind.

We should have kept Murray
Traded for AP
Traded for that Johnny fellow from Cleveland
Cut Weeden
Kept Showers on the 53, make him the backup QB/WR/1-Tech hybrid
Signed Tebow
Signed Reggie Wayne
Cut Carr and Claiborne

And we would be awesome.

Loss of Dez hurts, but I suspect the Cowboys are 4-1 or better if Romo hadn't missed games.

OP is drinking Mountain Dew, ready to pounce on everyone.

I am not good enough to pounce. I just want to hear how all the critics think it should have been done and to evaluate the realistic possibilities of those opinions.

I'm not one who readily subscribes to the doom and gloom mantra but things are not looking good. Being someone is aware and concerned on our current situation could be realistic where doom and gloom doesn't always need to be attached to what we should have done, who's to blame, etc. We lost critical members of our team, I'd venture to say the backbone of leadership......**** happens and I hate it.

And trade Coakley for Watt! Don't forget that one.

Okay, I don't believe Cassel would have been available until after camp, and over paying for Murray would have put us in cap hell again, but let's say we did those things. You say this team is done without Romo, then how would either of those moves helped?

Get a competent back-up QB?
Not sign players suspended for the first four games?

Nope. And the team wasn't going to pay him what he demanded. I said it last year. The division already had a running back, Lesean McCoy, with a huge contract. Murray outperformed McCoy last season. Murray's efforts boosted his positional economic value (via productivity) greater than McCoy's. Ergo, Murray would seek a payday approaching or equaling McCoy's deal with Philadelphia. Dallas had already demonstrated it was no longer spending extraordinary salary cap dollars as it had done so in the past for certain positions--especially the running back position. Top that reality with the Eagles trading McCoy to the Bills. That set up a unique scenario of Philadelphia bidding for Murray's services with dollars it had already demonstrated that team would shell out for a prime running back. The whole Murray leaving Dallas non-melodrama should not have shocked anyone.

I think the only realistic thing this team could have done was to bring in Matt Cassel in immediately when he was cut from the Bills. This would have given him three more weeks in this system and he would have been better prepared to face the Giants. There was no way to know that this Oline would be this bad and that Randle would actually regress. I do believe that most believed Weeden sucked and should have never been handed the backup QB spot. Also Williams looked great in camp. Maybe he won't suck when Romo gets back??

Also as far as realistic goes what about not drafting a damn TE every other year and then not playing him?? Escobar has been a complete waste of a draft pick that could have been used on Jonathan Hankins or Le'Veon Bell who many armchair GM's liked. However the team which knows more than fans decided to make this the pick instead of a starting DT and premier running back. Not a shot at you but to many of the posters who dismiss others opinions because they disagree with the coaching staff. This is not a shot at Escobar either because I fully expect for him to leave in FA and tear it up as a starter somewhere else. This team should stop drafting TEs as long as Witten wears a Cowboys uniform.

who should have been our backup QB.

- Shaun Hill
- Matt Schuab
- Colt McCoy

These were all better options than Weeden. They're not good QBs, they're okay but they certainly would have been better than Weeden and they were all FA from what I remember.

Who should have been our head coach?

- I've not bailed on Garrett.

Should we have paid Murray what he got from Phillie?

- Nope. I have no issue with the fact that they didn't give Murray a ton of money. Would it be nice to have him? Of course. But no. Don't break the bank for a RB whose prone to injury and had his only really good year (albeit a great one) in a contract season.

What could we have done to make losing Romo and Bryant insignificant , or at least less painful?

- Better play at the back up QB spot would have made that less painful. This team could very easily be 4-1 with a decent back up QB playing the last 3 weeks.
