we have to take advantage of the WR riches in this class, TO is 33 and Glenn is 35, and both are only one year-to-year deals, well TO is, and we have no obvious replacement for either

plus rookie WRs need a year or 2 to learn the nuances of playing WR in the NFL anyways, any WR we take walks into a great situation his rookie year, provide some big plays but mostly in a supporting role, not being the guy

WRs are deep...I think we could get someone solid in the 3rd.

After Calvin Johnson it is debateable. Steve Smith could be there in the 3rd and could be as good as some of those mentioned in the 1st.

We have no chance of drafting Calvin Johnson. And everyone after him is way behind. There really wouldn't be much difference between a WR we could get in the 1st (with #22) with one we could get in the 2nd.

Personally, I like our young talent at WR and wouldn't draft a first round guy till next year depending on how those young guys develop this year. Just cuz our last three WRs (on the depth chart) weren't drafted in the first three rounds doesn't mean they can't become great players.

Robert Meachem isn't way behind

1. I'm not against drafting a WR in the first, just pointing out we could still get one in the 2nd or 3rd that isn't far off from one we could get in the 1st.

2. Meachem is nowhere near CJ's level. If he were close to that good, we wouldn't have a chance in hell at drafting him (Meachem).

After Johnson I think there is value in the 2nd/3rd with guys like Sidney Rice, Steve Smith, Aundrey Allison, Craig Davis, Anthony Gonzalez, and Paul Williams.

Also, Dallas Baker is a guy who I am interested in later. He uses his body kind of like Key did.

not any WR w/ Meachem's size/speed and explosive ability

6'2" 213, 4.39 40, 18 yards per catch as a Senior, not bad

I want to draft a CB in the 1st. I agree with your assesment of Henry, I like him at CB. But you have to think about a few other things as well. Henry has been injured the last 2 years, that is a concern. Glenn is more than likely in his last year,, if even plays this year for the cowboys. I don't trust Jones or Reeves as a full time starter for us, if somone gets hurts at the CB position. What if Watkins does not get it this year,, do you really want Davis back there again?

Drafting a CB makes a lot of sense. It allows us to get a young guy back there to start learning the system and adjusting to the NFL, while not be required to play every down, maybe even someone to return punts as well. It allows us to have a few different back up plans for the FS, should watkins not work out this year.

Isn't this Watkins? We can't argue the fact that he did improve by the time the end of the season was here.

I think though if you can get a guy like Landry or Nelson that FS is taken care of for years. Watkins showed flashes and could very well have the talent to get some run, but FS has been such a glaring hole for so long...I'd just like to end the days of hoping there and go with more proven commodities.

I really see the value of drafting a CB/FS in the first round. With what Clements got I can only imagine what Newman is going to be looking for. Reggie Nelson is my first choice at 22 because he has the versatility to play CB as well...otherwise Hall, Revis, or Houston (who I am warming to) or Eric Wright in the 2nd make perfect sense to me.

I'd like to hear what position you would like to address though.

I think either WR or CB.

WR: The case for WR is that both our starters in TO and Glenn are in their 30s. We have some youth on the team in Crayton, Hurd, Austin, ect...but I am not convinced that either of these guys could be our #1 or #2. Also WRs take a while to develop, so this would be a great situation to draft Mecham and let him slowly work into the lineup and then take over in 1 to 2 yrs as a starter.

CB: Henry keeps getting hurt and Newman is going to want $100 mill next year. This is Glenn's last year and we basically have nothing behind these three guys as far as starting caliber. With the prices of CBs now, the draft is pretty much how you have to get them. Drafting Houston or Ross would be very good at #22, they could slowly work into the lineup, starting out on the Nickle.

Either WR or CB is the smartest move at #22 and what is great about this Draft is that there will be quality guys at both positions available at #22, no need to gamble and move up. Just sit at #22 and take the best WR or CB on the board and it will be a very solid draft.:starspin

There is a difference in being drafted in the first the rounds and not being drafted at all.

Crayton was a 7th round pick and might have only been picked because of Parcells eye at Dallas Day. Hurd and Austin were not drafted at all.

WR's are drafted in first three rounds on talent. WR's in latter rounds are picked on potential. UDFA's are signed to potentially earn a spot and to fill up training camp rosters.

After T.O and Glenn the depth looks bleak on paper. Hopefully this draft will improve it.

if merriweather wasnt such a punk id really want us to draft him.. i think hes skill wise the best safety in the draft.. and i think he could be a nickle CB, he did play CB at the U.. but i hate the thought of having a player from the U on our team.. but if we go WR in the 1st round and merriweather is there in the 2nd round i would DEF grab him... imagine in the 1st 2 rounds we grab meachem and merriweather?

He isnt exactly a role model I agree. With the FIU melee and his 'returning fire' and drive by shooter he might raise a few flags.

But he like you were saying is probably the most diverse DB in the draft. He can play any position in the secondary.

Although he biggest attribute which he would bring to this team is fire and intensity. He talks hard but backs it up during a game. He is a leader on defense but plays DB. Hes not afraid to stick his nose in it and will give up his body.

I hope he makes it to the second but doubt it. Then again , if he has too many flags on him then he might... I would have rather used a second on him that Fasano.

Next year S Kenny Phillips from Miami if he chooses to come out, he will be a Top 15 pick....

We need a young talented corner on this roster, Henry is getting up there and Gleen too. I'm all for taking a corner in round 1. I really like the kid from Arkansas Houston.
