I would think with the amount of talent available at # 22, we should be able to pick up a very good player at that spot. My 1st choice would be Nelson - to really lock down that position. If he's gone, I would not hesitate to pick Meachem, then Bowe. If those guys arent there then a corner like Revis. If we go for a WR or CB in one then Merriweather would def. be a good pick up in the 2nd round.
We will def. need to address NT pretty early as well, But my first 2 choices are either Nelson Or Meachem (and am leaning more towards Meachem the closer we get to the draft)
Thats my 2 cents worth!

According to that web site that tracked who teams where interested in, it seems we are looking at Chansi Stuckey, Steve Smith and A Allison. Those guys are 2nd rounders, so i'll say DB in the 1st, WR in the 2nd.

He isnt exactly a role model I agree. With the FIU melee and his 'returning fire' and drive by shooter he might raise a few flags.
But he like you were saying is probably the most diverse DB in the draft. He can play any position in the secondary.

Although he biggest attribute which he would bring to this team is fire and intensity. He talks hard but backs it up during a game. He is a leader on defense but plays DB. Hes not afraid to stick his nose in it and will give up his body.

I hope he makes it to the second but doubt it. Then again , if he has too many flags on him then he might... I would have rather used a second on him that Fasano.

Next year S Kenny Phillips from Miami if he chooses to come out, he will be a Top 15 pick....

The on-field fight is one thing BUT returning fire to defend his friend SHOULD NOT even be in the same conversation. He was legally registered to carry a gun and the police concluded he had justification to use his fire-arm; no charges against him. Since when is that a crime and should raise a red-flag; and WHY is that used against him?

Just an FYI...

Jason Hill and Anquan Boldin are not similar.

Boldin was a QB with 4.6 speed. He just had a big body and could make plays when he had the ball in his hands.

Hill has 4.3 speed and is no where as physical as Boldin ever was.

And Henry is a good CB not a great one. Hell T-New is not even a 'great' CB.

that money tied up stuff is garbage. we have money tied up everywhere, cause thats what it cost to get good players. Yes we have money tied up in the DB. We have money tied up at LB, 2 first round picks and a FA pickup in Akin and we just gave Bradie a contract. DL has a first rounder in spears and Ferguson wasn't cheap. O-Line has one of the top 2 highest salaries on the team with Davis and Flozell. We just resigned Gurode and Rivera isn't broke. at WR you have TO who is making i believe 8 mil next year and Glenn who we just handed out a big bonus to. We have been pretty lucky at RB seeing that Julius and Marion dont have big contracts, but that will end this year. If Romo has another good season he will have a huge contract after the year. It's not just DB's.

People have been reading entirely too much Spagnola. He uses the money argument all the time and it doesnt hold ANY water unless you are picking top 5 or maybe 10.

Compare rookie contracts to what FAs make and its not even cclose esp when compared to talent level.

not any WR w/ Meachem's size/speed and explosive ability

That's nice, but if we're drafting cuz of how someone looks on paper, we already have that on the roster (Miles Austin).

6'2" 213, 4.39 40, 18 yards per catch as a Senior, not bad

I didn't say Meachem isn't on CJ's level because Meachem sucks. Meachem is a player, but c'mon... there's a reason CJ is THE best PLAYER in this draft. CJ is the only player in this draft I'd trade up for.

And the people who say Henry is not a good CB are watching the wrong team on Sundays, IMO.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
You must have forgotten all about Mario Edwards, Tyrone Williams, Lance Frazier... when your second best CB is putting up 73 tackles, 2 INTs and 20 passes defensed, you're in very good shape.
That is because most of the passes at going his way. Compare his numbers to TNew and you'll see what I mean.

By the next Boldin I mean a player who looks bigger but it is deceptively fast at the position
and
the fact that he is going to hang around in the draft until quite a few (lesser) WRs are drafted before him, like Boldin.

Boldin went at #54 and no one really paid him any mind. 3 months later, everyone was asking, "who is this Anquan Boldin?"

A friend of mine (who is a Cards fan) was hyping him up that whole offseason. I was like, "Antonio Bryant's left leg > Anquan Boldin."

Yeeaahhh..

It's just not gonna happen.
Sorry.

We have enough money tied up in the secondary and have used our 1st round selection twice out of the last 5 years to draft a DB. 3 times in the last 7.

We have plenty of quality potential on the roster to compete for the contraversial FS position and may add another prospect in the middle of the draft.
(Davis, Watkins, Parrish, Elam, Henry?)

Personally, I want to see more of Elam.

But 1st round, it's just not happening.
And it shouldn't because great DBs are found all over the draft.

I tend to agree with this argument, but very likely the great DL will be gone by 22. If mocks can be believed, the value tends to be in CBs in the 20s. If you're looking to shore up the defense, then you can go LB, perhaps the 2nd or 3rd of the 3 best safeties, and then there are a gaggle of CBs in our draft slot. Unless Jarvis Moss falls I don't see much value to be taken in the first in the front 7. Patrick Willis? Maybe, but I'm hearing noises that the Panthers like him and are going to take him.

Now it's so early that no one should take draft values seriously. Kiper is just churning his top 25 and the clubs won't get serious about evaluations until late March early April.

But it's fun to talk about ;)

David.

Your argument is sound. There is no reason not to draft a CB in the first if that is the BPA. Same as FS. Same as pass rusher.

As long as we stay nearly lateral with the BPA we'll do ok though.

Someone else around here finally gets it........Best Player Available, not best available player left at your most glaring need (cuz that player may have a 2nd round grade).......that is how you end up taking David LaFleur and Shante Carver.

This team has plenty of needs, so it simply needs to stick to its rankings on the draft board, take the BPA.

If a FS is the BPA, take him.

If a CB is the BPA, take him.

If an OLB/DE is the BPA, take him.

If a WR is the BPA, take him.

If an O-Lineman is the BPA, take him.....etc..........

it's not hard if you stick with your board.

Hill is going to be a surprise if anyone discounts him.

I wouldn't take him in the first round. Anytime after that, I would be all over him. Very underrated player.

idk, I liked the production, but the dude played much slower than he timed, they said he even looked slow during Senior Bowl workouts, which kept the idea that he's slow, going

We need a young talented corner on this roster, Henry is getting up there and Gleen too. I'm all for taking a corner in round 1. I really like the kid from Arkansas Houston.

Me too, across from Newman he'd eventually be great, and moving to FS worked for Aeneas Williams, so why not for Henry?
