Ok color me crazy, drinking the koolaid, or just a die hard fan but if JJ somehow figures a way to sign both these guys I must admit this alone will bring some much needed optimism for this season. After the last 13 plus years of mediocritity it doesnt take much either. Will be interesting to see what the next 24 hrs bring.

After sleeping on it, I say NO a we get both of these guys! However, if Jerry can some how pull this off, I am with you 100%, to go from Hatcher and Ware and 25million over the cap to Melton and Allen and under the cap would be an amazing job.

Why find more ways to get to 8-8? It is not like these players could win you a SB.

I doubt we land both, but it would be a heckuva pull if we did. Land a premium DLineman in the draft and suddenly we have a solid rotational DLine core.

It's not often FA's live up to their salary, so I'm going to temper my expectations even if we sign both of them.

Understand completely but nevertheless it will allow the team to compete on both sides of the ball. I'd much rather watch a team that has a chance to win than a team you know is just 22 bodies. Either way I will be watching. No one is talking SB...I'm not dumb.....just a diehard that would like the fact a 27 yr old DT could be brought in and one of the best DE in the league as a stop gap. Long shot for both yes. Would be nice though.

It would help in the future though. Mainly because you don't want to go into the draft knowing you absolutely must have at least 3 D-Linemen drafted. You lose too much leverage and flexibility as to what you can possibly do. And by reducing the cap hit overall, we can now spend money in other key places in 2015 and beyond.

I would see it as merely replacing what you just lost in Ware and Hatcher. You still have a really bad defense.

Maybe. But if you add in a blue chipper DLine prospect and have some better luck injury wise, then things start to change a bit.

Yeah, "a bit". You go from a bad 8-8 team to a 8-8 team that is a little more affordable? I dunno.

I will give you Ware and a possible Allen swap but personally I think Melton would be an upgrade over Hatcher. I said "compete" :)

This is the problem in Dallas, and Jerry knows it. People, will continue to watch, no matter what. So, why change? I've stopped buying merchandise, stopped the NFL package on Directv, and this year, I might stop watching when they are on tv(in Chicago). I know I am one person, but if more people just stopped purchasing merchandise, maybe Jerry would feel it in his wallet, and make a change.

What would I rather have, than a stop gap, and a player coming off an ACL? I literally would rather they go 0-16 so Jerry would get it. We all thought when TO was cut, Jerry got it. But that didn't happen. Some, are thinking with Miles and Ware being cut, this is the change, well if they sign Melton or Allen it is not.

I quit buying merchandise years ago but I am still a fan and will at a minimum watch when they are on.

It's close. I probably would rather have Melton if his knee is fine, despite Hatcher's 11 sacks last year. Mainly because of age. I'd rather have Ware over Allen.

But it's really close. To me these two signings would just get the team back to where they were when FA started. When we all wanted upgrades.

Yeah, we were one win away from taking our division, and we lost several games by 3 are fewer points. Now that we have a better OLine and a legit DC, a better DLine plus better injury luck could propel this team far.

The addition of both at a reasonable price would be good but my main concern is

1. Cost of adding these 2, one an old DE and another player with one good year and several warts. THe position we are in, we will have to way overpay for them and i dont like that.

2. You know that once (and if) these 2 are signed, our FO will think the "DL is set" and in the draft we will go CB, WR, and TE and end up in the same pickle (over the cap with no young DL) next off season when Allen under produces because of age and melton gets hurt.

The team needs to evaluate very closely what the risk is with giving melton a long -term deal, which is likely what his demand will be and how long of a deal allen gets. I would OK with allen getting a deal that we can walk away from after 2 years. The thing i like about allen is that he has been productive and is also a leader which is something we have been missing.

Most importantly, even if we bring these guys in, we need to go DL at least 2 of the first 4 picks

i think the advantage of allen over ware is that he has not only been productive, he has been healthy and is an emotional leader, there is no way to know how many games ware will play this year

my concern with him is age and how much we will pay him

Pretty much how I feel as well. A bit of a wash, but Melton is at least younger.
