Always something with Dez Bryant

There has been a constant stream of incidents like this. This tells me that the guy really is dumb. I do not think that his agent is dumb enough not to tell the guy that this time is critical to his draft status and that he needs to toe the line if he does not want to lose MILLIONS in his first contract. The FACT that these incidents keep happening say the guy is stupid. And he is an adult-not a kid. Those that keep making excuses for him seem to fail to understand that. There are many examples of guys like this who never learn. Many more then those that do. PASS.

I don't want any part of Dez Bryant or Taylor Mays, Bryant is a complete knucklehead that doesn't comprehend a playbook, he'll be nothing but a headache for whoever drafts him and Taylor Mays is a Roy Williams clone, better suited to play safety in the eighties, not in todays NFL where you really need four cornerbacks on the field, probably his best bet is to play outside linebacker in the pros in a two read scheme.

I just wish football was a game where talent didn't matter. I would take 3 Dez Bryants and lined them up at my x, y, and z spots. Then I would proceed to kick the crap out of teams run by people who let a missed interview determine the draft status of a top 10 prospect. It would be foolish and completely self righteous to pass on Dez if he is there when we pick.

And I'd line up 3 Wes Welkers who aren't as big, fast or talented as your guys, but I would proceed to kick the crap out of teams with 3 Dez Bryants. Mainly because my guys would remember their cleats.

I could care less about the interview, it's just one more thing. When a guy can't remember his cleats for one of the biggest job interviews of his life, that sends up red flags.

Given everything that's happened, what makes you think he'll be remotely responsible once he has:

1. $10+ million in his back pocket and

2. A bunch of free time as an NFL player

He should not have agreed to a radio interview when he was visiting with NFL teams on the same day. He's not a pro yet. I'm sure the visit with the Patriots was infinitely more important, but his agent should still have called the station to let them know of the conflict. Bryant has specific workouts and team interviews to worry about right now, nothing more. He should be focused on that.

The cleat story is not true as originally told, btw. But your point is still made.

He has about 10 pairs of cleats and it sounds like the one pair that would work best on that surface was not in the big bag that goes from place to place with his stuff.

Granted, it's still another small thing to pile on that is breaking the camel's back so-to-speak.

He's a significant risk. If you think he isn't, you're ignoring an awful lot. The fact that we're looking at him maybe sliding in the 20s - past several top-notch organizations who could use another WR - couldn't make that any more clear. A player with his talent wouldn't get anywhere near Dallas' spot if it weren't for his issues.

Even with all this, he might be worth the risk. He looks to me like an elite talent. Maybe he'll grow up. Then again, he might get much worse with a couple million in his pocket.

Update at 11:02pm eastern - Dez did not call into the show tonight. And from the sound of things no one called Sirius to let them know why he could not come on...

Late Hits - Sirius NFL Radio - Dez

Like I said. Just a radio interview. But with the stuff floating around on Dez he has to know the microscope is on him big time about little stuff like this. He was in Boston for a visit with the Pats and could very easily still been talking football with Bill Belicheck.

So that's where someone from his camp calls Sirius, the NFL flagship station, and let's them know he's hung up and they will call back to reschedule.

That didn't happen.
-----------------------------

Stuff below was original post a like 10:05pm eastern.

I am not trying to sink the kid. And things happen.

But there is always something going with this kid when it comes to anything that is just par for the course of being a professional.

Listening to Sirius NFL Radio. Dez was supposed to be on in the first hour - 8pm est to 9pm est.

Of course he doesn't call in.

BMac made a quick comment about it and they are just waiting for him to call in for the interview.

I know it's just a radio interview. But you throw it in with all the other stuff that goes into his folder and it's just another check mark.

I have heard a lot of talk over the last week that most of the stuff on Dez being such a headache was overrated. I agree somewhat. He's not a kid who gets arrested or has drug problems.

But it does seem like he's just one of those people whose life is always involved in some kind of BS where things don't go as planned.

We all know these type of people. They are usually our friends and family. And in most cases they are not dependable.

I am rambling a bit, but I would hope you guys get my point.

By the way. I hope he does call in. I will get the interview online ASAP if he does.

non story. file this under...

The combine should have checkmarks or demerits for those who do not call in to radio programs. It's not like Dez is busy or nuthin'.

You can title that "The T.O. Story"!

T.O. is also not the kind who gets arrested or has drug problems, but still that stuff that makes fans uneasy always seems to find him.

I don't want Dez Bryant for the same reason. I don't care about his talent. Talent-Shmalent! All that surrounds him is controversy and all you hear from him is excude after excuse.

And he's not even professional. Not showing up without word or warning to an interview is not only unprofessional, it is unacceptable, especially after he bowed out of the combine only to show up unprepared for his own scheduled pro day.

Bottom line - these types don't succeed in Dallas. the media will turn hm inot a frenzy of mass self destruction.

Pass on Dez Bryant. Please!

I completely agree. But like you said he ain't getting busted for guns and drugs, it seems he lacks discipline and being responsible for his actions.

Anybody think with the right coach he could change?

do you think Martellus Bennett can change?

No one is calling you a bad guy.. i actually enjoy your contributions to the board. But it should be obvious that this is the guy that people are looking for reasons to bash. I'm sure you remember all the articles that were written about him not packing his 7th pair of shoes on his private workout? Before that people were ripping him for having his workout in a city that was out of the way. Now he had a scheduling conflict with a radio interview and a bunch of people pile on saying he is too unprofessional. i just watched an interview with Dion Sanders where he bragged about walking out of the giants interview at the scouting combine because they were drafting in the 20's and he couldnt be bothered since he wouldnt still be around in the 20's. That is unprofessional. That is arrogant and rude. Dez hasnt done that. In fact the only thing i think he really did do wrong was lie to NCAA investigators out of fear.

I am not sure I agree with that. yes Dez has been getting bashed a lot. but why does he contineously put himself in that situation. why don't you hear about Colt McCOy or Tebow or Suh or Okung or anybody else? I am sure they are also in demand.

the simple point of the thread is that if you promise something then its only professional to either attend or let people know you are not attending. lets say they have a presentation and meeting set up with you in mind and you just don't show up? no word. nothing. how will that go over with people.

plus there is a pattern of acting irresponbile, with a lack of respect for authority. its always these little things, like lying, forgetting his shoes, getting defensive, not attending a scheduled interview. just a lot of little things that makes you concerned.

Listen, there really may always be something with this kid.

He may be a knuckle head. He may be unreliable. He may be immature. And I say "he may", because I really don't know.

But it doesn't matter in my opinion.

If he falls to us, and we have the chance to take a top 5 talent at pick #27, at a position of need . . . WE HAVE TO TAKE THE PLAYER.

The risk/reward ratio is worth it, IMO.

Part of them problem though, in my mind, is that Dez Bryant is the guy that people are out to get. If the same thing did happen with McCoy, Tebow, Suh, ect noone would even know about it. Because it really is nothing.

But, because of some past poor decisions Dez Bryant is the one guy, that has been singled out this year (every year there is someone) that everyone is determined to see how many "stories" they can find on him.

I am going to trust the scouts and the Cowboy Brass, who have the ability to talk with Coaches and Players and get the first hand info on a guy, and not rely on what the media spews out.

No doubt about it, there are some very legit red flags with Dez Bryant. But, I am convinced that alot of the "red flags" are the media deciding to make Dez Bryant this years whipping boy and finding any little thing that happens to tons of other players, but we never hear about because it really is nothing. And use it to bash him some more.

That is why I don't get into should we or should we not draft such and such a player. Because unless you can talk with the college coaches, and visit with the teammates. And visit with big money donors that get inside scopes and know what is really going on inside a football program. You really don't have the data to make an informed decision.

Very well said.

I am usually very critical on character of a player. I like players i can cheer for as a person. Like Romo, or Miles. I never warmed up to TO, Dion, Pacman, ect.

So many people keep talking about the Red Flags with Dez. And all i see are some pretty weak examples of red flags. I dont see arrest, fights with teammates, cheating, drug use..... I see 6 pairs of shoes instead of 7, I see a lie most of us would have told, i see a missed radio interview.

Not sure I am for or against drafting Dez Bryant, I certainly don't have enough information to truly made an informed decision. But, as you said if this is Tebow or McCoy it is a non issue. But, because it is Dez Bryant people are just looking for one more reason to bash him.

No doubt about it, he brought the attention to himself with some of the stuff that he has done in the past. But every year, there are one or two players that people just love to find one more thing that they can bash them for, even if it really is nothing. And standing up a stupid radio jockey is nothing....

A stupid radio jockey?

He didn't stand up WFUH in Tallahassee.

It's the NFL's flagship station on Sirius Radio. All they do is the NFL. They are run by the NFL.

It's a bit different here bro.

This guy is still a kid. Has he shot anyone? Got nailed for drugs? Anything that would be anything other than just being a kid who hasn't matured yet?

Anyone remember when they were that age?

If he were within reach for us, I would take him in a New York minute!

So what are all the other prospects? Grown men?

He's about to be paid more money than any kid I have ever heard of and he's about to inherit a whole lot of responsibility with it.

He's not interviewing for a part-time job at Blockbuster. This isn't club or intramural sports. The man is about to make more money than most people could dream of and he's pissing into the wind at every opportunity.

"Still a kid" is still and excuse. He shouldn't need excuses. He should be on top of his game in ever aspect. He should be trying to improve his dog-**** image right now but he's not. He's completely doing the exact opposite. He's doing the limbo with his public perception.

The guy is an idiot. Not a kid, he's an idiot.

And when did "kid" years creep into the low-mid 20s? When did this happen?

That said, I hope he continues to roll around in the pig pen. Keep sinking that ship Dez. Let it go to #27.

I am so close to agreeing with you. I think I am 97% on board.

And I just know that Jerry sees these challenged kids as opportunities to show the rest of the NFL that his organization is more than just a football club.

This is totaly different than the Taylor Mays stuff. This kid can ball out and would immediately add a spark to this offense.

But we also have to take in everything that goes with being a Dallas Cowboy.

The scrutiny that he would be under in Dallas. Can he handle that? What's his answer going to be when someone asks him during training camp if he should be starting over Roy Williams?

Let's not act like the Cowboys drafting the biggest question mark in the draft would not be monster news.
