I don't think anybody does, .. not sure why you brought that up as an example.

When we talked about drinking in the morning, nobody was talking about one day a year while on vacation. They were talking about as a habit.

But when I did bring up that example, the other poster said he disagreed. that is what is being talked about here. Not sure why you don't mind your own business...

I simply disagree due to personal experience and witnessing other alcoholics. Camping is the excuse, the "crutch", that allows an alcoholic to imbibe without the guilty feeling of waking up and drinking. It is my opinion that the example cited is rooted in flawed thinking. Again, it is my opinion based on experience and observation.

ok....still seems strange to me to label someone who does that once a year an alcoholic, but it's obviously ok to have different opinions

:laugh2: ... mind my own business ?? ... I simply posted in a thread on an open forum.

But the other poster too was talking about when a person's drinking has escalated to the point that they start having a drink first thing in the morning.

Nobody but you stretched that to suggest it would include once a year while on a vacation.

Nobody thinks that one morning drink, once a year while on vacaction is a sign of alcoholism.

It sure appears Rackat does, as he has now stated twice in direct response to what I posted. And I am the one who brought up the once per year - I don't deny that. It was an example as part of the broader meaning of the post where I first said it - that every situation is different and there are no absolutes.

because he can't and he is the most judgmental non-judging person I have ever met on a webboard.

Just an update

It is Friday night and normally this is my drinking night. I buy some appetizers on my way home, put the kids to sleep and drink 4-5 beers before I go to sleep.

Apparently I am craving beer. I am thinking about how I can fill the void. My Friday nights are mostly enjoying beer with appetizers and watching movie with my wife.

So what I am thinking now is if I am craving beer, I probably am on my way to becoming an alcoholic. Thank God my wife intervened on time and made me think about it. And thanks to all of you who commented about this topic.

One more time, much appreciated.

Good call. I don't go to meetings hardly ever. OK, I never go. But knowing and admitting to yourself is the first step. It's also really all you need if you're true to yourself and have the will to stop.

I was a non drinker up until 2004. Started drinking a few beers every other week.

Now I am drinking around 12-14 beers weekly.

I don't drink everyday. I mostly drink on Friday's and Saturday's and on Sunday's during football season. I don't drink more than 5 beers at a time and my weekly consumption is always below 15 beers a week.

My wife thinks I am becoming an alcoholic.

What is your take on this issue?

If you are counting/trying to limit drinks and it occurs to you to ask this question then.....

A DUI will be the next step.

I felt like I had to provide an update regarding this.

It is almost 1 month and I have achieved my goal.

No beer and no drink.

I wanted to drink first few days at first but then the urge is gone.

I will keep this going. I won't drink any beer for another few months. In fact, I am planning on going without beer until football season. And then after football season, limit my beer consumption with drinking only on Giants' games.

What do you guys think?

If you think you have a problem, why no get rid of it completely?

Alcoholism runs in my family, so I do my best, not to drink it, unless I am at a bar, and even then, it is 1 or 2 a month.

I agree, I have seen alcoholism in my wife's family and my own.

No matter how long you go without, all it takes is one too many and you are right back where you were, if not deeper.

I had a childhood friend whose mother was a drunk. She got sober and stayed sober for 17 yrs, took a drink and was right back where she had been, if not worse.

That same friend of mine lost his wife, child, house, vehicles, job and self-respect to his own alcoholism.

Don't touch the stuff is my advice, but you do what you want.

Awesome to hear!

I would also add, you do not need alcohol to have fun. Also, if the problem is idle time, and that is why you have a beer, perhaps pick up a hobby, or invest more time with your family. Go place with the wife, and do things, or if you have children, throw a ball around with them.

I used to drink a 12 pack and almost a bottle of cheap vodka or whiskey EVERY single day in my early 20's. That's real alcoholism.
