Folks that have seen all 3 backs run all throughout training camp seem to be giving a lot of "oohs and ahhs" about Felix Jones.

There's a reason why many training camp observers are excited about this kid.

I think Barber is a good back and Choice is a good back-- but if you're looking for special-- then it's FJ.

Special is not something to base most of the carries on.
RBs like Westbrook are rare and Felix is a lot like Westbrook. However, as we all know he has durability issues. Explosive/Quick/Finesse RB should be used in rotations, not as lead RBs. I wouldn't use Felix down the middle, or to block. We really haven't seen that from Felix yet. Barber has produced, and Choice produced last year against some of the best defenses in the league, Felix didn't play against tough defenses other than Philly.

Most people would agree that Felix is not a 3 down back, I think Choice could, and Barber can.
Felix is a threat to score and rightfully so, but he is not the best RB in the roster. ****Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited over Felix's potential and his impact on defenses, but if we are arguing over who is the best RB in the roster then Felix isn't it.

I would put Felix in the slot a lot in fact, I think he could excel as a 3rd down back, slot WR.

The jury is out on Jones' durability.

And as great as he is, the same question mark looms over the head of Peterson.

I do know this: uncertainties or not, there are very few backs I'd trade Felix Jones for at this moment, in an age when good backs are a dime a dozen. He's something special, and if he can just stay on the field, I think most of us will be in agreement by season's end that he's one of the 2 or 3 best players on the team.

He's a back that a team picks up every 20 years.

That is what I've been screaming. Can't wait to see him on the field for a full 19 games.

So is it fair to say if Dallas could only keep one of the current RB's Felix would be gone if it were up to you?

Hasn't Peterson only missed two games in two years, over 600 carries, 5 yards a carry? He's not exactly breaking down.

Maybe he should play one full season ( but really should be 2-3+) before we make sweeping statements like that?

As far as Steelers fans' opinions of Felix....just rememeber that they were all over the Cowboys for being "suckers" and taking him before Mendenhall. There is a side agenda there.

It's not necessary to wait that long.

I, like the rest of the Cowboy fandom, could see that Tony Dorsett was IT, within the first four games of the 1977 season even though Tom Landry wouldn't start the guy.

Same thing about Romo after his start against Carolina.

Sometimes you have to be bold and go with your gut on a topic instead of taking the mamby-pamby way out and waiting for the cement to dry.

Part of a being a "once in 20 year player" is actually being able to play a few years (or at least one) in a row without missing multiple games. Durabilty is absolutely part of being a once in a generation player. otherwise, it is all just potential.

That was my point.....nothing "mamby-pamby" about it.

I love watching Felix and sure hope he becomes what you have already proclaimed him to be.

Hey, the durability thing is a question. I agree with that.

But as far as talent goes?

Yeah, he's a once every 20 years running back.

Really? So Tiki Barber and Brian Westbrook don't count even though they are very similar?

Felix has a total of 30 carries in his entire NFL career. Yes, you are crazy.

The first 4 games in Tony Dorsett's career...

4 carries 11 yards
7 carries 62 yards
10 carries 72 yards
14 carries 141 yards against St. Louis.

That's a total of 35 carries for 286 yards and 4 rushing TD's.

That's 8.17 yards per carry.

It was after the St. Louis game when many folks questioned Landry's sanity in not giving the guy more carries.

Felix had 30 carries for 266 yards and 3 rushing TD's. Plus of course that one on the kickoff return.

8.86 ypc is sick... Even for just 30 carries.

1 TD per 10 carries is pretty spectacular too.

Does he need to stay healthy?

You bet.

But the pecking order should be:

Felix Jones
Barber
Choice

And if Choice gets any carries they should come out of Barber's pocket-- not Felix Jones.

I guess I don't understand the question.

Both Tiki and Westbrook are/were very, very good.

Arguably the best backs either one of those teams have had in many years.

And yeah, I think Felix Jones will be better than both of them.

I'm talking about one team-- The Cowboys. He's the best back that the Cowboys have drafted since Emmitt, which was what? Almost 20 years ago?

I'm not saying that Felix Jones is a 1 in 20 year back for the entire NFL.
