Am I off base with a theory I have on Jerry Jones?

“Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.”

Hanlon’s Razor

Not exactly the same, but the same kind of principle applies.

I’ve been trying to make sense of everything since the Green Bay loss—both the product on the field and the way Jerry has been running things. It’s been clear for years that incompetence has been a constant, but what I’m seeing now feels intentional.

Think about last season: we win 11 games, and then in free agency, Jerry doesn’t spend a dime. Not a single dollar. This was the perfect year to address the running back position, yet the same team that spent over $10 million on Tony Pollard refused to bring in a guy like Mixon, Henry, or Barkley—or even draft a running back. This is the same organization that’s been accused of overpaying for RBs in the past, yet now, when the rest of the league is valuing the position more than ever, they choose to sit tight. They didn’t even re-sign Pollard. The team that supposedly “loves their guys” let their running back walk in favor of a player with one foot out the door of the league. This wasn’t a mistake; it was intentional.

Then, Jerry claims they don’t have money to sign anyone because they need to take care of Micah, Dak, and Lamb. But they could’ve locked those guys up earlier to free up cap space, yet they didn’t. Again, this wasn’t a mistake—it was intentional.

Now, let’s talk about Mike McCarthy. Jerry fired him last year, just not literally. You don’t let a coach on a “one-year deal” if you’re serious about keeping him. Coaches who are worth anything won’t work for a dead man walking—they want job security, and that wasn’t going to happen with McCarthy. They set this man up to fail. Wasted a year of our guys prime to insure they would suck this year.

So why not just fire him outright? Because the coach Jerry really wants isn’t interested in coaching this year. He wants to take a year off, rest, and maybe do some TV gigs. That coach is Bill Belichick. He checks all the boxes for Jerry: a retread with rings, someone who can sell to the fans, and most importantly, desperate.

I think what we’re looking at is Belichick as head coach, with Mike Vrabel coming in as defensive coordinator. The league is shifting away from the older retreads and moving toward younger minds like McVay and Shanahan, but as usual, this team is a step behind.
You are giving Jerry Jones way to much credit ....... he is a clown with no plan other than making money.

He didn’t fire McCarthy because he’s cheap. He literally told us that a year ago when we said “dead money” to coaches is a real problem.

He doesn’t want to pay a coach to sit on his couch while Jerry has to pay another guy to coach his team.

Jerry isn’t that shrewd.
No…he isn’t that shrewd. And I also don’t believe that Belichick wouldn’t have taken the right job last offseason (if it was offered)

All I know is that Belichick or any other coach dumb enough to take the Dallas hc job will not get us past the div round of the playoffs. And with the current roster, it's fool's gold to think we are even close to competing for the NFC East. Look at this roster. We are not one player away or five or ten and the Jones boys seem content to just count money rather than improve this roster and they are going to suddenly change their philosophy and start giving the hc power. That will never happen.
I would hope the new coach brings in his own players but yeah not a player away for sure.

Nothing would surprise me people with that kind of money don't care who they hurt whose careers they waste or what Carnage they leave in the wake of their pursuit to do things their way and get what they want.
Jerry may have a master plan to get belichick and rebuild the team but it will fail like all the rest of his nonsense.
I have no faith in any decision Jerry makes as they all benefit the bottom line and put winning a super bowl on the back burner

....but Bill would require a "No meddling" clause that wouldn't work, and Jerry is the GM. Major obstacles. Kellen Moore is coming.

Hard for me to believe there was no market for one of the greatest coach’s of all time. Sure the game has passed him by but it’s hard for me to see guys like Nick Sirianni coaching in this league but no one wants to give him another chance.

Agreed. People saying he’s not that shrewd…huh? The man who told his illegitimate daughter he wants nothing to do with her can’t be that shrewd? Since when?

If I were Mccarthy I'd intentionally defy Jerry and play the guys I want the way I want to play them. The fact the zeke still gets carries and is still on the team is baffling. Vaugh doesn't deserve to be on the roster but he does so more than zeke. I would tell Jerry to put the curtains up on the windows and pull his head out of his ***. Mike's a dead man walking right? Then coach like you want to coach and not how Johnny walker blue wants you to.

That’s the part I don’t get. Why not just go balls to the wall you have nothing to lose.

I don’t think he’d care. Bill is desperate to get back in the league. And yes I could also see him hiring Moore.

Everyone has been coming up with a rebuild conspiracy theory since the Green Bay loss on why Jerry is doing what he’s doing.

He can’t be that clueless… right? Right?

How is he being cheap spending money though?
He’s being cheap by not maximizing the effectiveness of how he spends his money. No team in the modern era has ever won a SB by not actively participating in FA. Jerry won’t do it because he’s cheap and his son is cheap.

Jerry rewards players for past accomplishments to his financial empire, not on speculation of how they will perform in the future. This is an immensely stupid way to approach building a roster. It will lead to passing on players that can contribute to your team because they never actively put money in your pocket as yet in their career AND it leads to overpaying for washed up veterans or declining players because they did contribute to your financial empire.

He’s not that smart dude when it comes to football. Nepo-Stephen is just as football dumb imo.

I think we are underestimating him. He may not know what he’s doing as far as building a team but he for sure is capable of such a thing we’ve seen it throughout his career.

Sounds more like incompetence than cheap. Money is being spent even if it is foolish.
