Awfully good g who hasn't played in a yr and half. Just don't get the love fest on bringing him in.

Its simple logic really. Sign him, see what he has left, if you don't think he's better than what you currently have (which is funny to even say) then you simply cut him before the season starts.

Its not that hard to understand why so many want us to just bring him in at least.. the last time he played, he played at a much higher level than anyone on our team. A year is nothing.. its not like he would lose all his skill and knowledge of the position just because he hasn't played in a year.

The Leary injury probably does not speed up the time line for Waters coming in, as it seems it is his time line not the teams.

I'm not opposed to kicking the tires on Waters. However, I think you wait for the cuts to start around the league. Someone is bound to pop up. Someone who won't break the bank and has competed recently. I think the downside is the waiting for the cuts. You don't get time to integrate a guy you pick up into your system as opposed to bringing Waters in right now.

There's pluses and minuses going either way.

I would not count on teams releasing starting quality guards. We are not the only team with depth problems at the position.

The trade market will likely be dry for the same reasons. A third guard is like a nickel cornerback, teams covet them like gold. When you do not even have two starting quality guards, it is not a good position to be in.

Players like Waters, Travelle Wharton and Geoff Hangartner are about as good as we are going to have to choose from. I would hope we look at signing one of these three, in the order listed.

If Waters balks or wants too much, move on to Wharton. He might not last long as Carolina, Oakland and Atlanta and are also looking at him.

I don't think Waters gets crazy money. I think people are grossly over-estimating that. I don't think signing him cripples us or really even effects us next year. Jerry will front load his contract, given his age, and if he does stick for more than one year, it will be for pennies on the dollar.

Agreed, no issue about bringing him in and working him out. I do think not playing for 18 months is a concern and I also think if he is not committed to the game and the team then it makes me question will he give everything he has when things are tough.

I hope he can come in and put these concerns to rest but I think it is a legit concern.

if you had bothered to do some checking, you would find that Waters had pretty much told the Patriots to take a hike; he wanted to play for Dallas or no one. He sat out last year VOLUNTARILY because he refused to play for the Pats and they refused to cut him. Feel better now?

Lol I know the story. Still doesn't take. Away the fact that he didn't play last year and he's 36 yrs old. I keep seeing bring him to compete or kick the tires. If we bring him in it will be to start and it want come cheap. I don't think it will brake the bank but he's not coming in for a vet min

He's a 35 yr old ol who hasn't played in a yr and half. I'm sure some might think he's better than what have but I wouldn't bet on it.

I would bet that Waters is a better solution than most OG's we currently have in the NFCE.

not surprised it did not take. We have a guy who when he last played went to the Pro Bowl- and it is generally agreed he deserved it. Yet you quibble and whine and refuse to see reality.

Lol where did I quibble and whine? I said I'm not big on the idea of bringing waters in. I don't feel like its a MUST like so many others. No whining or quibbling. And I forget you and risen are the forum experts on the ol so I apologize. Lol.

glad you recognize your lack of knowledge. There is hope for you.

By the way a full year of rest and not getting pounded is a very good thing as well. Think about that.

U rather have Arkin or Bernadeau start? Because right now that's the alternative...

At this point, I say Bring him in...then go get the mega, Jerry-bus and collect Moore's entire family and bring them along as well

Waters & Moore makes this team SOOOO much better if their heads are in the game

This is looking like last year..a complete disaster on the OL. We are going to be postponing the playoffs again this season with the looks of things.

And with a new defense..the learning curve is going to be possibly steep. If the defense can't keep teams to under 20 points..I think our offense is going to be hard-pressed to keep pace.

..Darn football gods..

That is a little overreactionary don't you think? Leary will be out for 2-3 weks per JG. We might sign Waters. This could be a pretty good OL by the time it's all said and done.

I guess the question I would ask is whether the OP was on board with the signing Moore. Sure, he played last year, but if you read his story about backing out, it sounded like he really hadn't done anything to prepare for the possibility of playing this year and ultimately didn't have his heart in playing.

He was going to cost us $2 million, so even if Waters costs us maybe an extra million it's not really a big deal if you were on board with signing Moore.

Waters played at a high level the last time he stepped on the field, and voluntarily didn't play a year ago because he wanted to be closer to home. The Pats tried offering him more money and he simply said no. I feel he is more committed to playing again but simply under his terms...in this case where he plays. I have no problem with that. And as many people have said, a year off may be good for him, might allow some of those nagging injuries time to have healed.

I would prefer that he come in next week, practice with the team for a few weeks so we can see what he looks like. If he isn't where we need him to be, then he can be cut before the opener and only any guaranteed money will count. They can hedge their bet by not giving him a signing bonus, instead guaranteeing his contract if he is on the week one roster or something like that.

There aren't going to be many upgrades, if any, when guys start getting released, and if there are, they likely are going to cost similar money. An upgrade isn't coming in at vet minimum money.
