Mmm, ok?

So you think it was ok for him to be out of shape because he had no intention of playing, even though he had a contract with a team? A guaranteed contract that he knew he would get paid even if he didn't show up - which he didn't.

Or do you think he really was in great shape prior to the 2012 season? Knowing full well that he had no plans to play.

And he hasn't been considering playing for any team. He only wanted to play for a team in Texas. You really think he was motivated to get into NFL shape, knowing that he'd only play for one or two teams, and they would have to pay him enough.

Don't you think the Cowboys would know if he is in any kind of shape to play or not?

And, why do you even care? If he is out of shape, the Cowboys will not sign him, he does have to take a physical, right?

And, if he is in shape it could only help the Cowboys win, unless that is not what you want to happen.

I think he was clearly in great shape in 2011, when he played at a Pro Bowl level, and in 2012, i think he decided he wanted to spend time with his family instead of playing football.. much like Brandon Moore just did.. so yea, he didn't worry about being in shape that year.

Funny i don't hear you *****ing and moaning about Moore, though. Odd..

Not odd. Over night he went from on his couch, to Cowboy, to back on his couch. I didn't have time to give it a first thought let alone a second one.

He agreed to a contract though.. yet he went back on his word. That was your problem with Waters, was it not?

Why do you care? Because its Cowboy related. Its called an opinion.

Hey, if he's in great shape, comes in cheap and really wants to play. Great. I just don't think that any of those points will apply to him.

So, you are fine with rolling with what the Cowboys have on the oline?

Oh, and it's not your coin so why care about that part?

He never signed a contract. Dude, if you think these are even remotely the same...

And yes, I'm totally glad he didn't sign the contract if he didn't really want to play. If he had signed the contract, came to camp for a week or two and then decided he didn't want to show up anymore, then I'd have a problem with him too.

Yeah, I guess I'm not good at playing virtual GM like some of you. Hey, pro bowlers every where. Win now, and screw the next three or four years.

And yes, I'm ok with what we will throw out there come the first game of the year.

There are a few knowledgeable posters on here that understand having a fourth string center playing last year killed us. And that the oline, all of them, played better in the second half of the season. Go figure since Callahan brought in a new system and new techniques that they were all learning. I'm not giving up on Berny yet. I actually think Arkin can play. Costa can play. Killer can play. Livings played decently last year and we'll see how he comes back. Leary should be ok.

So yeah, I think we can have a line that allows us to do what we need to.

That's all fine and good, and a good post. But, you should never say never if there is anyway possible to upgrade the team.

And, I thought I heard that the Cowboys are fine under the salary cap...but someone else needs to verify that.

That is a little overreactionary don't you think? Leary will be out for 2-3 weks per JG. We might sign Waters. This could be a pretty good OL by the time it's all said and done.

I wouldn't say reactionary..that's a big word..yikes.

Sorry..I'm just pounded by 16 years of excuses.

This team is a failure as a franchise...right now..if the benchmark is winning and titles.

Now if it's judged on making money..building stadiums and using smoke and mirrors each season to get the fan base going..then they are winners.

That's just my opinion. The owner and the son of the owner have not proven anything to me yet. Jimmy Johnson and his coaches rebuilt this team and they are looooong gone.

And the OL has been our Achilles heel for over a decade. Like the QB position..this team really doesn't go out and spend the money to get one or draft one. We are still staring at Romo behind this OL and he's a sack away from being out for awhile.

This back surgery he had may not be really healed yet. Even though we've been told he's fine. We'll see. I'd like to see him move around and show his mobility. I'd like to see when he gets up from his next sack. Grimace or smile.

Then I'd feel better. That's all.

All I can say is that if you told me in January that we would view Ronald Leary being out with a scope 3 weeks away from the opener as concerning, I would have laughed.

SO, I am curious....is Dallas a failure as a franchise even though we have the second most number of Super Bowl wins? What does that make everyone else besides Pittsburgh.

We didn't win any in the 60's, none in the 80's and none in 00's. We are due this decade, and for more than one.

I like your optimism, but when I read posters say "we are due" I just have to say...the NFL does not owe the Cowboys anything, so if the Dallas Cowboys want it, they have to earn it.

He gave his word to do something, and then went back on it.

The exact same thing Waters did.. minus a slip of paper.

You act like if we sign Waters, we arent going to do our homework first and make sure he's in shape and mentally ready to play.

Its just illogical.

Let's. Be real about things too. They aren't bringing him in to "compete". They are bringing him in to start. It won't be for chump change either

You're right, but if they bring him in it's because they expect him to be better than what we've got. I'm all for that. If he isn't better and they start him anyway. I'm against it. This team is making progress with its OL and it needs to continue moving that direction.

Keep the Dockerys away and let the Waters play.

i'm not crazy about having to bring in waters but i don't see that we have a choice. we have leary injured and while he may be back for game one, he may not. we have vickers injured, we have bernie who was injured last year and already been banged up this year. we have arkin who has shown he is not ready
it may not be ideal to bring in a 36 yr old who has'nt played in 18 months but he is a vet and even at 80% is better than anyone guard we have. what other options do we really have?

and if you told me then we would only draft 1 oline and no dline and nearly everyone would be fine with it I'd have thought you were insane

According to Mickey the train for Waters may have left the station empty... We'll see how it all pans out.

I still can't fathom why anyone in their right mind would be against bringing in a seasoned vet who has played at an elite level. He doesn't have to start, hell, he doesn't even have to make the team. Why on earth would you be negative about at least kicking the tires though? It's not like you're writing the check.

While I am for the move, keep in mind that all unused cap space gets rolled over from one year to the next, so signing him to a $3-$4 million contract for 2013, is $3-$4 million less for 2014. It's well worth it if Waters starts and plays at a high level, but if he gets injured, it will negatively effect the moves we can make next offseason (even if it is a 1 year deal).
