It's a good show for anyone that likes music. They place too much emphasis on the bad singers early on, though. I know lots of people get a kick out of that, but its just annoying.

If by music you mean corporate prepackaged bubble gum music for the tennie boppers with little to no originality...you are right.:laugh2:

It is not about the music for the people who run the show and who will sign these kids, it is about ratings, commercialization in the music business and the almighty dollar.

No, not at all. If you like music, you'll like the show. Finding those rare talents that can sing and have an ear for music is fun to watch. The best parts are those when the truly artistic contestants take a song and re-compose it or even just add small touches that show real talent for music.

Anyone who likes music, particularly those that have actually written music before, will appreciate that in a variety of themes, whether it's pop or whatever.

The people that don't obviously won't like the show. Most people think they "like" music. But they don't really know much about it. Not enough to actually break it down and understand it. They only listen to music casually and will thus only care to listen to a small sample of their particular taste. That's not at all what I mean by "liking music."

Wrong. I like music, have written it and work with plenty of musicians and don't like the show, so your theory is already proven false. ;)

Obviously I'm speaking in a generality. Some people may not have the patience for the show, regardless of their love for music. It's also wrong then to say that it's a terrible show for people that "love music." I know that it's rare to find a unique talent on the show, but that's why it's rewarding. There's usually only one or two every year and it's fun to listen to and root for those individuals every year.

I know most music people get turned off by the large hordes that root for talentless jokes like Taylor Hicks and Sanjaya, but there's not another show on television with such a focus on musical talent, and you just have to deal with the "rough edges" that are necessary to bring in the massive audiences.

This.

I typically only watch it when they start to limit the contestants to the ones who can actually sing, like the ending stages of Hollywood week and after.

Funny. Almost everyone I know loses interest in it once they weed out the really bad singers. Including myself.

I guess thats why the show is so successful. Its got something for everyone.

is the reason cowell's leaving not just so he can start the x factor over there? its basically the same show except they divide it up into categories (boys, girls, over 25s and groups) and each category is mentored by a judge.

still just about bearable early on when they have the folk who clearly cant sing which is sometimes good for a cheap laugh and then horrendous viewing once they get beyond that.

i've heard that's the reason, but i highly doubt that it will work here in the states. besides the only major star to emerge from "the x-factor" is leona lewis, the woman who sings the song "bleeding love"(click link to see the video):

She also pulls a Celine Deion and sings the Love Will Co On type song at the end of Avatar.

I thought this was the working title of Elin Nordegren-Woods' autobiography?

I can see how you could confuse it with her book, but her book is DRIVING love not bleeding love.
