I don't see how you can call the first of two games against an opponent a must-win. Should we lose, we can make it up with the second game against them!

Rationalize it, dance around all you want... it IS a must win... on many fronts...

  1. The TO deal
  2. Eastablishing which team is REAL DEAL
  3. Break them for 2nd game
  4. They are hurting
  5. McNabb is a choker
  6. We finally start putting teams away back to back
  7. The city of Philly comes apart and they start turning on each other

you kidding me, some people on this board still freak out when we get a 31 point win, you expect rationality if we lose?

Why? You know as well as I do that should Dallas lose the same old crowd claiming the sky is falling will be in full force. Like you I don't like thinking about a loss before the game is even played but one thing is for sure some will always over react no matter the outcome. Win or lose we have 12 games left and to put too much emphasis on 1 game this early in the year is crazy

You misunderstood, you are always a wise poster, very logical, as was your post.

I meant Dr. Dooms as short for Dr. Doomsday101, kind of a jab at Dr. Phil.

I messed it up.

I agreed with your post.

I don't care if people get mad after a loss.

However I do ask that if we should lose, not to come on this board and start acting a fool, cursing, ripping on everyone and generally losing your mind.
Love what you're saying, BP, but you would probably have better luck asking for world peace. :)

No one freaked out over the win over Tenn... it was the fact that we left them in the game and if it wasnt for inexperienced Young we could have been in trouble... ie. Kerry Collins etc...

I take my anger out on the couch and by cursing to nobody in particular at the homestead.

I get so fired up it sounds like a one man tourettes convention and the dogs go running for cover.

I have learned, through bad exps, to throw the remote down on the couch instead of hurling it down of the floor or the tv. Replacement remotes over the net are not cheap.:laugh1:

So I normally just throw my little temper tantrums at my home, instead of going on the world wide web and acting like a 2 year old kicking and screaming for the world to see.

Important game we got here. But the term "must win" gets thrown around too often. Now, the Carolina game last year...that was a must win. In this game coming up we just gotta hope that our guys execute, and even in a defeat, show some potential to be a top team in the NFL as the season progresses.

Don't assume that, if Dallas does win the game, the Eagles will be out of the picture for the rest of the season. There will still be 11 more games for them to recover before it is over, and they are unlikely to roll over and die. Whatever happens, Dallas will still be in danger of becoming an also-ran unless it tends to future business, so expecting this game to decide the season is foolish.

Oh, thank you Vince Lombardi, we all thought that if we beat Philly we were Super Bowl champs.

I wish I knew that much about American Football.

I remember my reaction after seeing the very first replay of Gurode's getting kick by Albert Haynesworth following his attack. I was literally running back-and-forth from the living room to multiple rooms screaming bloody murder.

Living room to bedroom to living room...

Living room to kitchen to living room...

Well, you get the picture.

Walking into the midst of this insanity, completely unaware, was my wife, who had to work that morning.

Did the sight of seeing her stop me? Noooo. I kept it up for a few more additional moments.

My wife just stood there, quietly soaking it in. Eventually, I calmed down, explained to my wife what had happen and apologized to her for my behavior.

Not skipping a beat, she simply shook her head and said, "There isn't any reason to be sorry. I've seen you act the very same way for 18 years. Why should today be any different"? And with that, she left me alone to ponder my actions.

Of course, my personal contemplation only lasted until the end of the commercial break. :D

Let's keep in mind going into this game that:
  1. The season is still early.
  2. This is just one game.
  3. Home teams in big games have a big inherent advantage.
  4. This has become one of our tougher games on paper.
  5. We can lose multiple games this year and still have a very successful season. We will still look like a bad team immediately following any particular loss.
A lot of media types are talking about what a circus this is. I'd like instead to propose that many of the posters in here appear to be on some kind of rollercoaster -- victories bring taunts and Superbowl predictions; losses bring calls for multiple cuts and predictions of doom. The rollercoaster turns and loops and fans get disoriented and weird things happen: 31-point victories become somber occasions to point out our faults and first-quarter incompletions are signs of the apocalypse.

I think we can beat Philadelphia and I will be pulling for the Cowboys just like everybody else here. If/when they lose, however, I will move on pretty quickly.

I agree wholeheartedly but knowing this place, if we don't score a TD on every possession, it will show our offence has been exposed as a fraud.

Yeah, I talk a mean game of stoicism but I'll be a wreck just like everybody else in a close game.

Agreed,,, bottom line, it's a much bigger game to the Iggles because they are at home and are already 0-1 in the division. If the Cowboys win it will be a big deal, if the Iggles win then they have merely "held serve".

Emphasis IS AND SHOULD be put on EVERY GAME... we dont put teams away on a regular basis.... Eagles are hurting and quite frankly arent as good as they have been in the past. We should win this game.

If we dont we should be pissed... if we lose in Philly then its possible they can come into Dallas and beat us too... take em out I say.

I'm all for winning and hope this team does but unlike some I don't go crazy over 1 loss, I have played sports long enough and watched sports long enough to know better than to freak out over any single loss. Dallas will have many big games to contend with this season not just Philly. I'm not going to treat this game like it is some single elimination game when I know for a fact it isn't.

Philly is the team in the must win situation ... not us.

We held serve in our 1 home divisional game against Wash. Philly is in big big big trouble if they lose this game however.

They would be 0-2 in the division both games at home with only one game left at there place against the Commanders. Our schedule gets easier with the bulk of our home games at the end of the schedule, while the opposite is true with Philly.

This is not a must have for the Cowboys. But if we lose it will be huge opportunity missed to send the Eagles season into a tailspin they would have a hard time recovering from.

We were in TOTAL control of that game the second we went ahead. I never had any doubt we would lose.

Although the situations are not entirely analagous, I recall back in 1992 that the Cowboys and Eagles were both 4-0 (IIRC) and met for a Monday night game for NFC East supremacy and likely NFC supremacy. The Eagles plastered us.

Of course we beat them later in the year and again IIRC in the playoffs and of course won the Super Bowl.

IMO this is not a must win, but it is an important game and an important measuring stick. The Jax game was a measuring stick game and we didn't do too well. We'll see how this one goes.

I agree. I never felt the game was in doubt after the 2nd series in that game.

If you plan on being on this board next week, .. this is a must win.

It will get ugly when the Iggle fans show up if we don't win.
