I've gone back and forth on the whole QB situation. Do we draft one in the first this year or go for broke and try to make a run at the SB?

As great as it would be to actually be in the hunt this year, I don't think we'll have the defensive chops to pull it off. And that's IF Romo can stay healthy all year...which I don't see happening.

Our defensive line is a wreck now. We have two above average players, Crawford and Lawrence. Neither have shown to be a super star, command double team type player. I have hopes that they can, but I'm not sure next year will be the breakout year. And as I've said many times, I think Crawford is playing out of position to begin with.

At LB, we have Sean Lee and some nice, young talent. But no one that really grabs your attention.

Secondary we have Scandrick and Thomas. Scandrick coming off surgery and not getting younger. Carr is slightly above average but not worth what he is getting paid. Church is a below average cover guy.

Offensively we have a very good o line. A number 1 WR with physical gifts but lacking in other areas. Our number 2 WR is not dependable. And our future HOF TE needs to be replaced, sadly to say. And we have a merely average RB, if he stays healthy.

So, I'm now back in the draft QB at 4 camp. Get the guy that can hopefully be Romo's replacement.

Cut Carr, Church and Witten this year. Draft their replacements. Find a couple good deal FAs this year to fill in the rest. I'm not writing off this year, I'm just not going all in.

Now you can work in the rookie QB this year. Preseason, spot duty. He'll have a full year to get used to the NFL.

2017 rolls around and yes - I release Romo, free up 14 mill and usher in the new age. This team needs a new identity. The Romo, Witten, Garrett trio of bromance needs to be gone. It hasn't worked, for what ever reasons. And yes, I'd look to replace Garrett and staff at the end of 2016, unless he manages to get us to the Divisional game at least.

They might as well get a qb. A player at 4 isn't going to make a huge impact. Dallas needs quite a few fa's to even have a chance and they never play in FA.

Now I am slowly getting on the bandwagon of getting a QB but I am still undecided.

Regardless, I don't think an inexperienced rookie is going to mean Superbowl or not. Even the best players in the league typically take a season or two to show their worth. Regardless of the player---we are picking him for the player he will be in two seasons. The same goes for the QB position.

I think Dallas can draft a QB and compete this coming season. I don't make excuses for the team but I think a vast majority who cover the NFL feel Dallas massively underachieved this past season. I don't think 12-4 was a fluke and I think while this team does have holes to fill they also have some very good talent. We sat here before the start of the season with topics of who Dallas least could afford to lose and seemed Romo name came up more than any player. we lost Romo for pretty much the entire season and went 3-1 with him in the lineup.

Goff or Weintz. My choice at #4. No way we release Romo in 2017, unless he asks for it.

More like 2018. If we cut him after this season---We will take a 20 million dollar cap hit. He is here for two more seasons, if we part ways after that...only 9 million(still a lot but more manageable)

And if he is healthy enough New England will pick him up.....

If we make him a June 1st cut in 2017 we save 14 mill.

I guess if you're going to play "broadcast my fantasy" to the message board then you should also at least include yourself winning powerball as well to all of the ridiculous happenings.

Otherwise, sorry but Romo is going to be here for a good while still and the chance to take the 2nd or 3rd best member of a forgettable QB class (a chance which almost certainly will be declined) isn't going to change anything.

If we are getting rid of romo in 2017 and he has a good year this year, you trade him, some team out there will go for him.. probably the rams..lol

Very logical approach.

With that #4 pick:

Improve our chances for relevance over the next decade or go for broke now?

I'll take next decade Alex because the go for broke thought process does not compute given the wealth of issues we have in various areas.

What will be charges in other years? It is hard to find all of that June 1st information, I would be curious to see.

Lets hope Romo's performance and durability keeps him on the roster for another 2-3 years. Regardless, QB is still an option at 4.

I think you go for broke and allow the new head coach to pick his guy in 2017.

But at what spot? If we "go for broke" and end up with a record around 8-8 (give or take 2 games based on injuries) we won't be picking near as high. I don't follow college ball enough to know what players are coming out in the next couple years but regardless, chances are you aren't going to have a top 5 pick to find out. We haven't earned this high of a pick with poor play since....Troy Aikman?

You are setting a future coach up giving him the 15th pick and expecting him to find a QB for the future.

While I like Goff...............I'm just one to think there isn't a QB in this years draft worth using a first round pick on.

JMO, of course.

If there was a QB worth the #4 pick then I might agree but watching film on the top three guys say they best fit at best the end of round 1 not the top. The way to draft will always be the BPA not reaching for someone but the way to keep drafting in the top 5 is to reach each draft. Take the BPA at #4 or trade down and take the BPA but do not reach for a guy just because, that is the way to be Cleveland every year.

One builds for the future, and takes the BPA...falling back into a positional QB need still doesn't cut it, based upon a popularity contest.
